Hey algorithms - get to know me!

In an age of increasingly sophisticated search intelligence, the collection of personal data across a range of channels, and so-called targeted marketing I am not concerned about what the big players know about me. I am ever more surprised about how wrong they are. I am happy to share my preferences in most areas with Google, Youtube etc. to optimize the value I get out of the search. So why on earth do they get it so wrong? Interpreted from the advertisement I have been subjected to over the recent 2-3 years, I believe Google has labelled me a 50+ man with a preference for DIY projects, dogs, motorbikes, and herbal medicine. Nothing wrong with any of these topics - but I can honestly say that they are not part of my search routine nor very close to my spectrum of interests. If this is the sophisticated level of algorithms and deep learning applied, I would rather not see the unsophisticated level. So - I am not concerned

about the depth of knowledge of my preferences and personality. I am more worried about how far-off they are.

having commented earlier i am now faced with an ad for Redislabs appearing on the Stevenage boro football club site. I have never looked at redis but know that Riak interfaces to it and a number of people use it for fast in memory storage. Why would this ad be appropriate for me? To Zoltan's point.... are the Algoritms at Google or at the Ad vendor/broker sites like Adroll and AOL? and to think I learned Algol68 at college......!

You are soo right. In my case I can conclude, that LinkedIn does not care about my age, whereas others do. If I sometimes in a dull moment feel like answering a poll I get deselected - if I lie about my age, I get to answer the questions ;)

That may be true in many cases, Line but but there are more accurate algorithms that are used in AI research. More accurate will come soon that fit better our lives and preferences.
