Independence Day Rap: JibJab Celebrates 4th Of July (VIDEO)

What's Your Reaction:

What's the 4th of July without George Washington laying down rhymes about kicking some British butt? JibJab's latest video, Founding Fathers' Rap 2010, is as irresistible as it is weird. Don't expect any history lessons, but you can count on some serious smack talk.

I think you people wanted there to be more satire and lampooning. But really it was a skillfully worded rap about one simple message, Happy Independence Day. I thought it was Da Bomb.Vintage American Melting Pot Gumbo!

JibJab hasn't been funny with any regularity since 2005. It's sad too, because for that election, they pretty much owned the viral internet satire scene.

Though "Time for Some Campaigning" and the year end wrap up in 2007 were both good. This- not so much. A shadow of their former selves.

Value City, a furniture store, runs stupid commercials with Washignton and Lincoln dancing to hip hop. Thats what this looks like.

Well, even though the prior comment denigrates the JIB JAB and those who like it; I have one thing to say: HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

I'm so glad I have the ability not to listen to this kind of stuff. I guess there must be lots of people who really, really love it. (Talking about the musical form, not the message.)

Once again, the 'Colossus of Independence'--John Adams--gets ignored.

What, no mention of what happened when Americans decided to 'liberate' the colonies to the north of them?

I guess watching their brand new capital get a light charring was too embarassing for Paul and George to rap about (though it may have prevented Americans from making the same mistake a second time).

If you know the full story, you know these men only wanted freedom for their white landowning hind, not for slaves and women. Not good for educational use :)

and if you knew history you would know that it was Georgia and South Carolina that wanted to keep slavery, the other 11 colonies including Virgina where two of those guys were from voted to end slavery..........

but you are right that video is not good for educational use

Which of these men were slave owners and which were not, why? No mention of non landowners and women in you reply, why?

My 10-yo son just studied the Revolutionary War and he thought this was really cool and recognized the names and faces. So maybe it's targeted at 10-yo boys.

IMHO. I find it entertaining satire, not credibly educational, given the history of the people who created rap and hip hop. These men did not fight for independence for slaves and women, only white landowning men.
