13 People With Permanent Tattoos Based On Passing Internet Fads (PHOTOS)

Huffington Post   |  Katla McGlynn First Posted: 07- 5-10 05:46 PM   |   Updated: 07- 6-10 01:02 PM

Internet memes, or ideas that spike in popularity online, are notoriously flash-in-the-pan. Remember the "dancing baby" in the 90's? He's long been replaced by LOLcats, Chuck Norris facts, and fail whales. So we were more than surprised when we noticed these tattoos of Internet memes. It's pretty bold to permanently alter your skin because you saw "Pedo-Bear" and thought to yourself, "This will never be awkward to explain later!" And by bold we mean stupid, but stupid is funny! Check them out and vote for your favorite.

It's impossible to discuss tattoos without people either getting defensive or judgemental. Why do people who don't have tattoos care so much about those of us that do? Almost everytimes someone sees my tattoos the reaction is positive. People either compliment it or ask about it. However some people feel the need to put me down and actually try to make me feel bad about my decision. It would be one thing if they just told me they didn't like it (or they could just ignore it) , but instead, they will tell me how badly I'm going to regret it one day or how I have ruined my body or that no one will marry me now. I'm used to it though, because it is pretty much all the same stuff people said about premarital sex is abstinence only sex ed when I was in HS.

I don't have any tattoos but I like ones others get. I just can't think of something I would want that would look cool. Maybe a nautical star but that's too cliche now...

Why would anyone get a tattoo dedicated to a bear that presents pedophilia?

Wow, is it really worth it? What ever happened to bumper stickers?...And tee shirts?

There is nothing like a tattoo post to bring out the haters! I'll never understand why so many people are quick to judge the quality of your character based on a section of your skin.

The decision to colour in a bit of your skin permanently is a function of your character. That's the explanation, you don't understand it.
BellaMomma   1 hour ago (10:47 AM)
Thank you, Miss Hater for proving my point! You know nothing about me or what kind of person I am. You're baselessly hateful about something you don't understand!

These lists are always terrible. Things like the 3 wolf moon tattoo and the shirts is what started the meme

MARKED FOR LIFE.

Every now and then you'll see a well-preserved '70's camper van running around town with an original factory custom paint job. You know, the ones with all those cheesy interwoven bands of earth-tone colors? They were all the rage back in the 70's, but now they look corny as hell.

One of these days these tattooed hipsters will look in the mirror and realize - "Oh my God, I look like a faded, pinstriped, '74 camper van! And I can't get another paint job!"

This is the best "passing internet fad" tattoo of all time: Two Girls and a Cup. http://ugliesttattoos.com/2009/05/20/2-girls-1-cup-a-lifetime-of-being-that-guy/

Ok I am officially old and uncool - don't know what half of these are.

Yeah, me too.

Not that I was ever very up on pop culture.

The Tay tattoo cracks me up, but imagine explaining that one to the grandkids as they squint at your withered arm. I myself have nautical stars inked on my collarbone, but unlike most twentysomething hipsters I actually earned mine by serving in the Navy, and look forward to telling the whippersnappers about the dive parlor in Pensacola where I celebrated getting kicked out of aircrew school.

Uh, the domo-kun is a Japanese television mascot, not an Internet meme. Maybe it's been co-opted as an Internet meme, but that isn't the source.

The way people talk on these kinds of threads, you'd think that getting a bad or dumb tattoo is a fate worse than death. I have a lot of tattoos, some of them are badly done, others are pretty awesome IMO. But when I look at even my "bad" tattoos, I still have a positive memory of getting them, or the place in my life that I was at when I got them, and while I might regret getting them done poorly, I don't regret getting them done, period. I don't consider it ruining my body, and neither do others, including, shock, older people! Even older women! Will the person with the Twitter tattoo still like Twitter when they're 70? Will it still exist? Maybe, maybe not. But if we only chose to do things because we're worried about how the 70-year-old us will react, most of us would never do anything at all. Chuckling about the kids with the tattoos that they won't want when they're old is SO 1997, people. (Plus, the Twitter tattoo is really well-done.)

Besides, you wanna know something? Tattoos are passé. They’re yesterday’s thing. I’m lookin’ for the next big thing in body decoration. And I think I may have it. Next, body-piercing. Now, the piercing movement is off to a good start, and I like the idea behind it: self-esteem through self-mutilation. I’ve always said, when in doubt, punch a hole in yourself. That’s fine, but I think the piercing people are missing a good bet.

Vital organs. I mean, skin is one thing. That’s easy. But how about getting your lungs or kidneys pierced? Why not some lovely diamond studs all over the surface of your liver? Or a couple of nice 18-karat gold rings hanging from your thyroid gland?

You're not very intelligent, that's why you have reading difficulties. It was very brave of you to admit your weakness, next time keep that kind of thing for your therapy sessions.

I met a bartender at Eskimo Joe's in Stillwater, OK who had musical notes that weaved across her entire body. I was so enthralled with them, I couldn't stop staring so I asked her about them. Apparently this was a recent addition, or she still wasn't up to talking about it, because she said matter of factly "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. I hope she's handling her grief better, whomever she is, but I thought that was a truly touching and UNIQUE tattoo.

I'm 35 years old and just got my 1st tattoo a little over a year ago. I don't like pain, and thought it would be horrendous, so I always procrastinated. That and I had NO IDEA what to permanently ink on my body that I could actually always be proud of. My mother died just over 2 years ago after a decade battle with intestinal cancer. I was with her for the last 6 days of her life. A woman once built like me, now a mere 70 pounds, round the clock "death checks", etc.. So on the 1 yr anniversary of her death, I took my baby book to a reputable tattoo parlor. My mother had perfect penmanship and I had her first name tattooed IN HER HANDWRITING across the inside of my right wrist. It made me feel less sad, somehow, that she was now "imprinted" on me, if you will. If I'm out professionally, it's easily coverable with bracelets OR I can leave my arm blank and speak out on behalf of cancer. The theory is, at least for women, don't get a tattoo that shows in evening wear. Sadly, the only woman that can pull that off is Angelina Jolie, but I'm thinking even SHE is taking tattoos too far. I do actually like the ones with her kids longetude/latitude birthplace. Those are tattoos she can always be proud of.
