1 June 2026 – Türkiye’s power mix is beginning to look more European than those of its neighbouring countries. In 2025, wind and solar generated 22% of the country’s electricity, a record high that places Türkiye close to countries such as Romania, Bulgaria and Poland, and well ahead of neighbouring markets in the Middle East, Caucasus and Central Asia. Rapid solar growth and record wind additions have pushed Türkiye past a key clean power milestone, helping to reduce pressure on fossil fuel imports during a year when drought weakened hydropower output. The next challenge is maintaining this pace: meeting Türkiye’s 2035 wind and solar goals will require sustained annual buildout and a stronger grid to unlock the country’s clean power potential.
