About me

From an early age, I was torn between two loves: music and literature.

When I was eight years old, I began to teach myself my favorite pop and rock songs by ear and using basic chord symbols. In my early teens, I began to study classical music, and in high school, I fell in love with jazz. To this day, I continue to play across genres, savoring everything they all have to offer. Music is a gift that illuminates all aspects of my life. It has made me the person I am today.

Throughout that time, I was also a passionate reader and writer. When I graduated high school, I decided to pursue a degree in English instead of music. After college, I worked as an editor for seven years. On the side, I continued to write and to study music, and I directed a number of multimedia art projects, including a video game! I also got involved with community organizing, through which I built up a wide range of administrative and fundraising skills.

Eventually, I felt the need to make music the main part of my life, and now my main job is teaching and gigging. But I still like to write, edit, and help others with writing, and I continue to contribute my organizing skills to causes and programs I care about.
