2 months, 3 weeks - In today's Daily Fix:Xbox's new CEO, Asha Sharma, has officially teased the next console: codenamed "Project Helix." The next-generation gaming console will be compatible with PC as well as Xbox games. Sharma will be at the Game Developers Conference next week to share more details. In other news, Highguard has received its final update, the "Farewell Tour" patch, which adds a new playable Warden, new skill tree, and new weapons. Players will get to enjoy it for a week before the whole game shuts down on March 12. Castlevania fans worried that the new Belmont's Curse might be more roguelike or roguelite than classic Castlevania, fear not. Developer Motion Twin has roguelike experience with the hit game Dead Cells, but Konami is promising a classic Castlevania experience with the new game. And finally, Ubisoft has released the first piece of concept art for the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, the remake of the fan-favorite fourth Assassin's Creed game.

3 months, 2 weeks - A developer who worked on Highguard has discussed the "hate" he received after the free-to-play shooter debuted at December's The Game Awards, saying the game, and by extension its team, "turned into a joke from minute one, largely due to false assumptions about a million-dollar ad placement."

3 months, 2 weeks - Highguard reviewed by Travis Northup on PC and Xbox, also available on PlayStation.Highguard’s compelling gunplay, impressive pace of updates, and killer Raid mode have made its exciting attack-and-defend encounters quite memorable, even if the version we have right now feels a bit like a rough draft. The unique competitive matches definitely have room for improvement, with maps that can feel a little empty and rounds that are somewhat uneven between their slow looting lows and chaotic raiding highs. Plus, with just nine characters, a handful of maps and bases, and only one game mode served up in a few different flavors, there’s not a lot of meat on this bone just yet. But what is here at the moment is still a lot of fun on its own, and I can already feel the makings of something that could be pretty stellar if it’s able to survive long enough to fully realize that potential.

Highguard Episode 2 brings a new Warden, a new map, a new mount, and introduces Ranked Mode. Highguard is available to play for free now on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 (PS5). Highguard’s Episode 2 lets you unleash your inner wolf with new Warden Ekon. Battle across colossal chain bridges and use magical Sky Jumpers to soar over the massive vortex below in the newly discovered map of Skydrift. 4 months - In this snippet from Podcast Beyond Episode 931, NOTE: Since we recorded this, Highguard’s concurrent players on Steam took a massive dip, plummeting from a decent 90k down to 17k, which is a sizable dropoff. That said, the discussion around how much live-service games can change since launch still applies, and Wildlight Entertainment has a lengthy roadmap planned for Highguard’s post-launch content… but will it be enough to attract a substantial enough player base to justify its development?
