Max Pechstein, born on 31 December 1881 in Zwickau and died on 29 June 1955 in West Berlin, was a central figure of the modern art movement in Germany. His œuvre spans an impressive range of media and techniques, from painting and printmaking to sculpture and craftwork. Pechstein’s work reflects a fascination with the simple life and the beauty of nature, and is inspired by his travels and his engagement with the most diverse cultures.
