Sharenting refers to the practice of Parents Sharing details, images, videos and private moments about their children online in social networks. This practice has reached a stage where sharenting is now associated with OverSharenting.

According to U.S national poll on children’s health, 74% of parents feel another parent has shared too much online. The term sharenting was first coined by the social networks in particular by the trends in Facebook when people are not aware of dangers of posting baby images on Facebook. The Younger generation, when they become parents tend to be as open as they were before. This resulted in this practice to come into play. But now, the trend has crossed facebook and has infected other social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and even personal blogs.
Sharenting becomes Embarrassing
Its fine that the parents enjoy and share their happiness about their parenthood to their friends and family. But the problems arise when they share embarrassing stories, details about academic progress, locations and whereabouts to all.
Although it can be argued that parents have every right to do so, one must not look at the privacy of the children involved. Especially, celebrity children have a greater risk as they are born under media glare and public attention. They are born as stars. Exposing them in social media has caused serious issues in the past.

Oversharenting leads to Digital Kidnapping
Digital kidnapping is one such serious issue, with almost every detail about the child available online, thanks to neglectful and over-enthusiastic parents, crooked minds steal them and impose the child as someone else’s. Many such instances have been reported with matters pending in courts.
Another fact is that when the children are ready to use the social media, they have a digital image already created for them by the parents. This may affect the children mentally. They may get embarrassed, feel inferior, and other unwanted feelings may crop up. Posting photos of children once they have themselves become old enough to use social media creates problems as well. Children’s photos have become the target of hurtful and cruel jokes Cyber-bullying is another practice that further causes a problem.
Parents paving path to Distort
All these stuff at the end of the day affects the children. It’s the parents responsibility that they take care of the privacy of children. Ironically, they are the ones who are paving a path to distort it. In fact, it’s the duty of the parents to put a curb on children on how much they share online.
Tech-savvy parents, who are increasing in numbers day-by-day are the ones to be blamed. Although educated, they turned a blind eye towards this issue and forgot about the privacy settings. It may be because of lack of awareness. Well, it’s high time we come out of this social media addiction and give more care towards the future generation and grow them up to be better than us and be careful while sharing our children’s photos online and it is mandatory to remember about sharenting when sharing something via social networks.
