Leighton H. Coleman 3d, the author of "Polar: The Titanic Bear," is the featured speaker Wednesday at the annual meeting of the Wenham Museum.
His lecture and slide presentation focuses on a child growing up in the Edwardian age. It also examines the Titanic disaster and how it destroyed that age's idealistic view of technology.
"Polar: The Titanic Bear" is the true story of a toy bear and his American family, who survived the sinking. Originally written in 1913 by Daisy Spedden for her 7-year-old son, the manuscript was found in a steamer trunk about to be discarded by her great-great-nephew, Coleman. The book was published by Little, Brown & Co. in 1994, and it won the Children's Choice Award in 1995. …
