Mermade
A downloadable game for Windows
In "Mermade" the childhood fantasy of becoming a mermaid is turned into a cruel and twisted reality. You play as a human who was experimented on against her will, robbed of her legs and stitched together with a fishtail. Faced with this new reality, you have to escape—whatever way you can—while surviving the dangers lurking within the facility with other failed experiments.
This is basically a demo for the game and still under development!
The game was developed to be played with a controller!

PROS:
This game to me feels very ALICE: Madness Returns, meets ODDWORLD: Munch's Oddysee! The initial story is creepy, eery, devastating yet you want to know more and drag your little mutilated merMADE self through the lab! The controls are simple enough. The atmosphere is great! The character looks incredible!
CONS: The clipping on the walls is REALLY TOUGH which caused myself a few unavoidable deaths. Controller integration but poor. The crawling mechanic is fine but using the analogue to also use for camera is really fiddly and you end up getting stuck and can't turn around properly. Exploring does nothing. Most doors are locked. It feels more like a short game dev demo than a short game itself. It isn't always easy to know the path to go to.
OVERALL: I really like the premise of this game! It's popped off viral for me on my socials and as it should! More eyes and players the better. It could open up to be so much more. I advise the devs to play some Oddworld Munch's Oddysee for some on land but tough platform as in that game Munch was handicapped too needing his squeaky wheelchair, without it he was slow. But in water super fast like here. The controller needs a tweak for better handling. Walls need fixing so players don’t clip. Living my Ariel dreams singing on the rock (above the trapped mermades part) but it clipped my character to be unable to move, I would fix that bit too. BUT... its a great idea! Atmosphere and audio had me creeped out but fascinated. I hope the devs expand and give it more! GREAT FUN! 3.9/5
optimise it for pc please. its HORRIBLY difficult to navigate a controller game with PC controls. had to uninstall 5 mins later because of how frustrating it was. the concept is really cool tho
Awesome game and I LOVE the atmosphere, just some things to improve quality of life while playing it:
-locking the mouse to just the game screen, I'm on two monitors so it was kind of difficult when my mouse was either visible on the game screen, or I'd be trying to turn and it ends up all the way over on my other monitor
-having a setting for mouse sensitivity, the default sensitivity was way too low and it was really difficult just trying to turn the camera
I think the control's themselves are great, it really helps sell the idea that 'your body has been drastically altered, and now you need to learn how to 'walk' again'. Awesome stuff!
I like the concept and the style, but the controls are just terrible, especially if you’re playing with a keyboard — it just makes you not want to play :(
Holy moly! This is awesome and so disturbing and I LOVE the work on the atmosphere and the character model!
I feel so bad for the girl we play as too :(
Will this game be available on Steam when it's finished?
This game looks really cool... I really want to see it on Steam when it's finished.
Great atmosphere and concept, but really hard to play on a pc/without a controller. Would love to see it finished!!!
LOVED IT PLEASE I NEED A FULL VERSION!
Can someone please create a video of how to download this extraordinary game from start all the way to the 'play' button? I am genuinely struggling to get the files to cooperate and none of the instructions on google are working *at all*. This game looks beautiful and I would love to play this for myself.
Very interesting game. Would love to see it when it's finished. As everyone else already expressed in the comments, the controls were very difficult to navigate. I really struggled with the swimming, but apart from that, I think the game idea is outstanding and will be very interesting to see when it's finished.
I like it.
I did feel the weight of the fish lower body on the character while playing.
I know the control design is made to make you feel alien in your own body especially after trauma, however if there was some sort of compromise to make the controls less frustrating while avoid obstacles that would be great.
Looking forward to release.
[SPOILERS]
I was able to get past that last monster both by locking him in the separate pool the first time and swim by him after I messed up the switch the second due to monster pathing issues the second time.
[SPOILERS]
I tried the game but it's just unplayable at this stage, I think you released a demo WAY too early
this is incredible! While you see to love horror did you try anything with old folklore elves? They used to be pretty terrifiying
This is a really interesting concept, and I wish it had a Patreon or something so we could help it reach maximum quality potential.
Waking up and realizing you’ve been turned into a mermaid is such a disturbing way to start a horror game 😭 The whole laboratory setup immediately made me want to know what the hell happened.
Ok, I want more of this game! The concept is really creepy where it reminds me of the movie Tusk, but it's also really pretty to look at it! I definitely want more story because it's peaked my interest. Great demo so far! I can't wait to get this game!
I hope your game makes it to release!
Overall like the visual design, concept, character design and general character movement and controls.
My life for a chase sequence while crawling.
More critique and changes I'd like to see:
No "Payoff" on being grabbed by an enemy- no ripping or crunching noise of anything felt incredibly... bland? It pulled me out of any fear.
Same for falling from large heights i.e. first lab room.
Would also love to see a little more polish on sound design, such as atmospheric music in key areas for more tension.
Button and Key binds in options would be awesome.
Fun idea!
I can see the work put into it and good job!
There are somethings i hope to see improve in the future! like the controls and the backstory, like the girl woke up a mermaid and accepted it a second after that?!
great concept for a game, tho since the it's made for a gamepad it was hart to play on pc
Absolutely terrible controls. Unplayable
Absolutely fantastic. I had an incredible amount of fun playing through this game. The atmosphere was great. Personally, I think the controls work well. The mermade’s suffering wasn not that apparent to me because I was having way too much fun swimming around and jumping out of the water. Crawling on land was also pretty fast, considering she has to drag her whole fish tail along, so exploring didn’t feel tedious. For that reason, and because I didn’t feel threatened on land—since there were no enemies, and even if the scientist had been nearby, she most likely wouldn’t have harmed me, since the mermade is apparently the only successful test subject—I actually felt like I could be the monster in this horror game. It would be hilarious if the scientist were actually nearby but hiding in the lockers because she’s afraid of the mermaid, since she only knows the aggressive, failed mermades.
I love the horrific designs of these characters. The game overall looks great and I can't wait to find out more in a full version some day. Keep it up!
I like the main idea of this body-horror a lot! Yeah, what the demo offers so far looks and plays not so great, but as a concept it definitely shows potential. Best of luck with the further development!
i havent played yet but this looks SO COOL! i definitely gives off PS1 horror game vibes and ill update later!
OMG the concept of this game is fantastic! Although the control needed some time to get used to, after a few mins of practicing the physics of the mermaid is actually nearly perfection. A complicated feeling started to build up slowly since you are literally a fish and a woman at the same time, swimming freely in the water but climbing on the floor hopelessly. It's really hard to use word to describe it, The irony just get me really hook into the character.
SPOILER ALERT
At the beginning of the game looking at my same kind got chop off apart and I have no idea what to do, where to go, that really creeps me out. I am always assuming someone will suddenly walk out, grab me and chop me off during my hard time of climbing through the experimental Centre to find the way out.
I wanna give some feedback to the game since I really like it so much <3
1. Add some random walking sound at some point while I am on the floor will definitely maximize the horror.
2. I actually went to look around especially at the props to search for information: is there a story behind all this? But the fov doesn't let me look up and back as a result I could not even look clearly how well you guys made of my own body, the planner board and also the corpse of the other mermaid. If you guys can add a zoom out button or even let me do a push up to see higher that would be brilliant. I hope you guys can keep this game as the base and continue adding contents, levels and story to it, its a big waste for not keep expanding the game.
Thank you for the short but gold experience, I really enjoyed it so much <3
A random player from Hong Kong~ Sorry for bad English it is not my first language T-T
PS. Those hands are so beautiful. (I mean from the shoulder to the fingers) They are so pretty made! And also the only thing I can see clearly XD
пожалуйста, сделайте управление для обычной клавиатуры от компьютера... не у всех есть геймпады. Но игра выглядит очень интересно
This is exactly the type of experience that I look for. This has its niche and fills it perfectly
Now this is very refreshing. It's unique! I feel like I haven't gotten to play a truly unique game in a good while, not to say games that use old techniques or gameplay isn't bad, it's just so rare to find something so unique and new feeling these days! Right now, it does feel a little bland, there isn't really much of a story and currently its more of a movement/swim demo with a nice atmosphere, which is completely fine as it's in development. I look forward to a full game release and the addition of more context/storyline!
Also, I absolutely love the grungy/gritty art and graphics, it's pretty in a rather grotesque way! Very nice.
*Some bugs I found*
- sometimes the game won't let me fall into the water off a ledge, I have to basically go along the edge while kind of wiggling before it catches and send me down.
- the enemy that chased me was able to swim to the edge of the ledge (out of the water) and get me there.
- I no-clipped into a few rocks.
- got stuck doing a head-dive straight down on the tile floor for a solid few seconds.
*Some things that I think could use a little work/polishing that may be overlooked*
- it's hard to look up, now I'm not saying we should be able to see the sky, but a way to lift up a little would be nice, like maybe she uses her arms to lift her torso up kind of thing. I was mainly curious on looking at the whiteboards and info boards that were around, but was unable to really see them all that well.
- when jumping out of the water onto the floor she basically headbutts the floor which looks a tad weird, I also got stuck like that for a few seconds
- The enemies are weirdly fast considering they don't have anything to actually move in the water with quickly like our character can. I feel like maybe there's a way to make them more anatomically "right"? then again, this one is just my opinion and it's perfectly fine if that's how you plan to keep them!
Ngl I think one of the most original concepts for a horror game ever
I absolutely love this game! The graphics and atmosphere are so good, though some of the control issues made me laugh during my playthrough. I really hope this gets a great story. Playing on a controller feels fine, but the keyboard controls are brutal right now. Also, there's a lack of instructions at the game.
Bugs I found:
Absolutely LOVED this! It was so creepy, and I only had one hiccup where she glitched straight up and down while on a pathway. I had to use a ladder to reset my position, but it worked! I can not wait for the full game to come out!
I played it and absolutely loved it! Please, please adapt the controls for keyboard and mouse. I actually played through the whole thing that way and got pretty used to the controls overall, so by the end I was even thinking that the clunkiness might be part of the narrative - after all, the mermaid is in a new body, she's not used to it, so it makes sense for it to feel sluggish and unwieldy
But the camera, which you just can't turn properly with a keyboard and mouse, doesn't really let me lean into that idea... it just feels plain wrong
Overall, I'm really happy with the time I spent with it, and I'm so itching to find out more about the story, what those giant bones are, and who they belong to. And of course, best of luck to the creators!
If I had one small piece of criticism, I'd say the locations feel a bit too simplistic and monotonous at times. I think that's definitely something worth working on if you're going for atmosphere and player immersion
i liked it, saw it on tiktok and played it. Keep on going <3
