Updates

  • Accelerate your timeline to publication on the Chrome Web Store. One of the most common bottlenecks in the review process is package bloat. By auditing your bundle to eliminate dead code and redundant files before you submit, you can bypass common pitfalls and secure a faster approval 👇

  • Measure your single-page application performance accurately with new Core Web Vitals metrics → https://goo.gle/4yuqBcV Chrome 151 beta lands with major performance tracking updates. The Web Performance API timeline now supports soft-navigation and interaction-contentful-paint entry types, helping to track latency during route transitions. This release also shifts XML parsing to a memory-safe Rust implementation and the <usermedia> element for interacting with media streams. Download the beta on desktop or Android to begin testing.

  • Accelerate your adoption of new web capabilities with automated tracking of Baseline features → https://goo.gle/3RJA5Ay The Web Platform Status dashboard helps you understand feature interoperability, but keeping up with changes takes effort. Baseline Alerts change that by letting you subscribe to individual features, whole groups like CSS, or custom search queries. Sign in with GitHub to route updates to email, RSS, or Slack webhooks.

  • With the HTML-in-Canvas API you can now apply complex WebGL or WebGPU effects directly to regular HTML elements and build interactive experiences, like a 3D page-turning book effect, while keeping the text fully selectable and accessible. Watch our latest showcase to see how this bridges the gap between rich graphics and native web standard features.

Introducing passkey skills— The Chrome team launched an early preview of Modern Web Guidance at Google I/O — a tool that injects web development best practices directly into your coding agents as skills. With Modern Web Guidance installed, coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, and Antigravity can implement various Web APIs following use-case-specific best practices, keeping your codebase aligned with the latest platform recommendations. This includes the passkey skills, so your agent implements passkeys the right way from the start. For example, it can visually display which password manager each passkey is stored in in the passkey management page, making credential management clear for users. It actively leverages the latest APIs: getClientCapabilities for feature detection, JSON serialization, error handling, conditional mediation (sign-in from autofill), Signal API (credential sync), and conditional create (auto-upgrade password users to passkeys). A demo repository is ready for you to try — clone it, install Modern Web Guidance, and prompt your agent. See passkey registration, auth, and management built in minutes. We'd love to hear what you think. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gWnGPqqA
