Bio

Abha Thakor is an experienced communicator, senior journalist and digital media and research professional working in a variety of sectors, with a speciality in content development and communities, web CMS, voice tech, and site building. She volunteers her contribution to the WordPress project as part of her wider contribution to Inclusion, and Tech opportunities for all. She is a long term active and significant contributor on several releases and has co-led areas of work. Her team contributions include Core, the Learn WordPress / Training, Community, and Documentation. She is also a component maintainer in core, and Team Rep for 2023. She has served on the Marketing Team since 2018, was a Marketing Team Rep from 2020 to February 2022. She continues to support contributors in this area and with using GitHub.

Her professional interests include:
– new technologies and research
– communications and IT training
– event organising and administration / project management
– supporting the communications and tech organizations communities
– community building and stakeholder engagement, particularly around digital and websites, and citizenship

Promoting adult learning, development and accessibility through a range of community events including WordCamps, digital communications groups and tech-based Meetups.
– member of a number of Make WordPress teams including core, marketing, training and WordPress.tv
– champions Continuing Professional Development for her professional institutes

Abha is a speaker and researcher on tech and communications, accessibility and innovation topics including AI.

Abha has been on the organising teams for a number of WordCamps including WCEU and London. She has led and mentors contributor events and marketing groups. She enjoys helping the community share, grow and develop tech and communications skills, using her skills from her own training and work.

Some of the areas supported:
– member of the WordPress Dev Blog Editorial Group since its foundation
– active member of core and served as a Core Team Rep in Make WordPress
– has been a Marketing Team Rep in Make WordPress, helped facilitate its Marketing Project and Actions groups and the teams’ internal and cross-team collaborations and mapping, led the use of GitHub by the team
– supported the Documentation, Training, and Core teams, contributed to the running of the WordPress developers chat, on the launch group and continue to support Learn WordPress, on the Editorial Team for the Core Developers Blog
– contributed to the efforts of the WordPress Release Team for 5.5 and 5.6, 5.7, 5.8, 5.9, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4-6.6, currently volunteering on 6.8, and to a number of minor releases. Led the call and research around additional marcomms materials and research working cross-teams. She has been highlighted as a noteworthy contributor and been a team co-lead on a number of releases
– a speaker and trainer at WordPress events globally including WordCamps and Meetups
– podcast host and interviewer in the WordPress and tech space, including DoTheWoo.
– led communications for WordCamp London 2019 (#WCLDN) and WordPress Translation Day 4 in 2019, co-led the WordPress Translation Day in 2020 and a core organizer in 2021, led the Contributing Team and its Track 2 at WordCamp Europe 2021, and led the marcomms for the launch of LearnWordPress.org. She has served as a WCEU co-organizer for three editions
– led the PR, communications and inclusion campaign for the only #WordCamp held globally on the #WordPress 15th anniversary day in 2018. She is a co-organizer of #WPTranslationDay 2021
– local meetup organizer and involved in WooCommerce community building through @DoTheWoo and more.
