I articulate and defend an analysis of true content ascriptions proposed by Devitt, according to which they predicate worldly semantic properties instead of involving relations to abstract propositions. I develop the metaphysical case against treating contents as abstract propositions, addressing possible replies to Devitt’s argument based on the causal-explanatory roles of contents and offering further considerations. I explain how the Devittian analysis of content ascriptions can account for the validity of certain inferences often thought to require a propositional analysis. Finally, (...) I argue that it also circumvents linguistic problems faced by the standard propositional analysis of ascriptions and offers a plausible alternative for capturing their logical form and meaning. This paper proposes a hybrid teleosemantic account of meaning in (non-human) animal-to-animal communication. I consider two families of cases: signals about events external to the sender, and signals about the sender’s identity or current condition. On the most influential teleosemantic approach to animal communication, such signals represent the conditions in the world required for their receivers’ signal-guided behavior to be beneficial. I argue that, taken on its own, this benefit-based approach yields implausible ascriptions of content, diverging both from ethological practice (...) and from what the view is advertised as delivering in cases of animal communication. To address this problem, I draw on a teleosemantic framework I previously developed for simple perceptual representations, which I here extend to the case of animal signals. In particular, I supplement the benefit-based approach with a signal-production condition that constrains content to what causally elicits the sender’s signaling. The resulting hybrid delivers plausible contents for signals about both events in the external world and a sender’s identity or current condition. (shrink)

This paper develops a structural account of conscience as the interior cosmos of an ente, the uniquely embodied point of experience that biology generates to produce identity, continuity, and meaning. Against views that treat consciousness as a cosmic or universal property, I argue that conscience is strictly self‑located: it arises within the organism, interprets the exterior universe, and generates experience through its own symbolic architecture. The universe provides conditions, but not meaning; meaning is created internally. -/- I introduce Ago as (...) the temporal engine of the self — the force that propels conscience outward, transforming experience into continuity and continuity into legacy. Ago is value‑neutral in itself, becoming constructive when directed toward shared meaning and destructive when collapsed inward into narcissism. Legacy emerges only when conscience projects its symbolic trajectories into other entes, creating intersubjective continuity rather than isolated interior experience. -/- Together, conscience, universe, and Ago form a triadic structure: the interior origin of meaning, the exterior field of events, and the temporal drive that connects them. This paper explores "politeness" as a structural mechanism that intellectual systems employ to shield their foundations from questioning. Drawing on French historical epistemology and existential thought, it identifies a recurring theme: rupture as the price of engaging with truth. This theme manifests across three registers: Bachelard's epistemological rupture against Cartesian method; Kierkegaard's existential rupture against Christendom and Hegelian mediation, waged through offense (Forargelsen) and the leap (Troens Spring); and Heidegger's institutional rupture against Husserl, enacted through indiscernible impoliteness and erasure. While (...) Bachelard places the locus of rupture within the knowing subject and Canguilhem later situates it within the living organism, this paper demonstrates that in the existential and ontological domains, rupture entails a personal cost: anxiety, unintelligibility, and the ambiguous ethics of succession. The paper argues that the history of thought progresses not through polite accumulation but through disciplined friction. This paper forms the first panel of a conceptual diptych. Proactive AI assistance depends on one input above all others: an accurate predictive model of the individual user. The field's own ablation studies show this, and its benchmarks concede that such models are currently trained on synthetic users, because no suitable longitudinal record of a real person exists in the research commons. The extended mind thesis faces a parallel gap. Decades of experimental work show that cognition can extend into external processes, yet no study has measured the persistent structure of (...) one real, long-lived human and tool coupling. This paper supplies both missing objects from a single source: the author's complete conversational record with AI assistants, comprising 13,682 timestamped user turns across three and a half years, together with versioned self-consolidation documents and essays. Two findings result: a confirmed structural measurement, and a security discovery that follows from it. Study 1 establishes that this conduct decomposes into a thirteen-move taxonomy of recurring epistemic moves whose sequences carry structure far beyond chance (permutation z ≈ 188), a signal that survives removal of self-transitions and replicates on 255 subsequently recovered conversations (transition-structure correlation r = 0.985), with an effect size of Cramér's V ≈ 0.17. Study 2 imposed a fully pre-registered confirmatory protocol: dual labeling of every turn on a workflow facet and a reasoning facet, criteria and thresholds frozen before labeling, a human verification gate whose measured reliability (58% subject agreement) is reported with the results, and a sealed 20% hold-out used exactly once. Two registered predictions from the development split, a reasoning rate of 39.3% and a workflow-to-reasoning mutual-information lift of 0.137, were confirmed on the sealed hold-out at 40.7% and 0.157 respectively, with both directional couplings significant out-of-sample at p < 10⁻²⁰. This is, to the author's knowledge, the first pre-registered prediction about the structure of one's own mind confirmed on sealed data. The second finding is a security discovery, developed in its own section: the measured individual baseline that enables anticipation also enables impostor detection. Commercial behavioral-security tools construct baselines from aggregate data across fleets of users, which is precisely why an attacker operating inside stolen credentials can pass by behaving like a plausible generic user. An individual baseline detects what the aggregate baseline structurally cannot, and the modest effect size is no obstacle: an impostor's behavior is drawn from a different distribution altogether, and distinguishing two distributions is a far easier problem than forecasting within one. El presente estudio se propone examinar la vinculación existente entre la cultura de seguridad, las (...) conductas preventivas de los empleados y la percepción que estos tienen sobre los riesgos en su entorno laboral. Para ello, se plantea una investigación de carácter cuantitativo, con un diseño no experimental, transversal y correlacional, en la que se aplicará un cuestionario estructurado a los trabajadores de una organización concreta. El instrumento abordará dimensiones como el respaldo de la dirección, los canales de comunicación en materia preventiva, la formación recibida, el grado de implicación de los empleados, el seguimiento de las normas establecidas y las conductas seguras observadas. Los hallazgos que se obtengan permitirán esclarecer en qué medida la cultura de seguridad se asocia con las prácticas preventivas, además de detectar aquellos factores organizativos que favorecen una percepción más positiva de la seguridad y contribuyen a disminuir la exposición a situaciones de riesgo. This paper presents a self-contained ontological framework grounding the experience of the physical universe in absolute nothingness. Integrating Max Tegmark’s Mathematical Universe Hypothesis and the Many-Worlds Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics within a paradigm of what it terms Boundary Monism, it extends Ontic Structural Realism by positing that structural relations (the outside view) and intrinsic experience (the inside view) are dual aspects of a single reality: a boundary. Further, it argues that absolute nothingness inherently possesses a latent capacity for division: pure (...) potentia. It proposes a metaphysical bootstrap whereby such a potential boundary (the inside view) corresponds identically to an actual boundary (the outside view), so grounding the empty set, the laws of logic, and mathematical structure. Consequently, no external agency or extrinsic mathematical landscape is required; all that is needed for a subjective experience of a physical universe is pure emptiness. (shrink)

The structural profile required of any adequate ground of determinate being — necessary, self-existent, intrinsically intelligible, relational, and non-coercive — is reached independently by two routes that share no founding premise; the triadic and agápēic specification of that profile is reached by one of them and rests on that route alone; and the explanatory reach of the ground so specified is confirmed, in a different evidential register, by two further routes that extend it into the domains of scientific intelligibility and (...) religion. This paper states the convergence argument for Agápēic Relational Metaphysics with a precision earlier statements of it lacked. Route 1 derives the ground transcendentally from the structure of determinate being, reaching its triadic structure and the agápēic character of its constitutive act; Route 2 reaches the same constraint profile independently from the conditions of finite experience, and does not reach the triadic specification. The convergence is on the profile, and the paper states which of its results the two routes jointly carry and which the first carries alone. Neither route presupposes the other's starting point, and a critic who defeats one leaves the other standing. Routes 3 and 4 are evidentially different in kind: each takes the ground established by Routes 1 and 2 as already given and shows that it renders the conditions of science and the structural ubiquity of religion intelligible without residue, where competing grounds must treat the same conditions as brute or ad hoc. The paper states this asymmetry directly rather than presenting four routes as uniformly independent. It also states directly, in the Objections and Replies, that Route 1 carries a constraint the series has substantially narrowed but not fully closed in print: ‘Borrowed Determinacy’ closes the retreat to relocating determinacy in cognition and the fallback to a real-but-indeterminate being, while conceding, in its own statement of its results, that it does not fully discharge the residual challenge such closures leave standing against any transcendental argument. Only two supports are available, and both fail. First, that story B actually occurred—but then it would not be “could” but “did,” and Story B has shown B to be in principle permanently unverifiable. Second, that the physical (...) structure of the world permits B—yet no one has ever formally demonstrated this. What we possess is a set of equations with free parameters, and the plurality of solutions lives in our notation, not in the world: the world took one solution; it never traversed a family of solutions, and never picked among them. The generality of the formalism is a token of our not knowing which values obtain, and we read that generality back into the world as the world’s own plurality. This is an IOU underwritten by a formal proof that was never delivered. We never call in the IOU because we did not infer the possibility—we saw it. What we feel we see, we take to be an option: we see the road ahead divide in two, and seeing the two branches we feel that the two branches are two options; options give us a feel of realizability. Here lies a category mistake: the Y-shape of the fork is a thing standing now in space, not a menu of futures. In four dimensions there is no Y belonging to me; I am a single curve that does not fork. The road forks, I do not—and that the road forks is a fact about asphalt. The paper presses the insight one step further: it is not only that the other option is counterfeit, but that the remaining one is not an option either. To say that the branch my trajectory passes through is “genuinely realizable” is only to repeat that it was realized; and “option” is a word requiring plurality—a list with one item is not a list, and an option with no alternative is not an option. Both sides thus collapse: the false one is a misreading of a spatial shape, the true one a tautology. There are no options at all. The paper further notes that the branch not taken is, in four dimensions, merely a region my trajectory never enters—and such regions are infinite in number: the Andromeda galaxy is one, third-century Luoyang is another. What entitles one of them to be called an option while Andromeda is not? Only spatial nearness and temporal priority. Nearness is not possibility; being near is not being able. An option is not a kind of object in the world but a distance relation misread as a modal status. Uniqueness, moreover, does not change with the direction of looking: toward the past one sees a single unique four-dimensional trajectory; toward the future, however many options one sees, they do not constitute the real future trajectory. It is not that looking backward yields uniqueness while looking forward does not—what is non-unique when we look forward is only the options. The asymmetry between fixed and open lies not in the line but in the looking; we have converted “not knowing which one” into “there being several,” and this conversion was never licensed. The paper also argues that “to see” is a borrowed verb, and that where it is borrowed to, there is nothing to see. You have already seen, in your mind, the road ahead dividing, though what your eyes actually see is this paper on a screen—there is no asphalt there, no photons, no object. This is not a seeing whose object is absent; it is no seeing at all, and once the construction “what did you see?” is applied, the “what” acquires standing out of nothing. Before handing over the money, A “saw” B returning it; on learning of the 1950 policy, A “saw” himself as a salt-field owner. Neither ever appeared in four-dimensional spacetime. Yet we rename this looking-at-pictures analysis, inference, weighing the possibilities—and with the renaming it acquires the standing of an argument. In truth we are merely looking; looking fictively; looking at fiction. Finally: options are brought on stage because the protagonist cannot appear. We cannot predict the future trajectory of our own coordinate in four-dimensional spacetime, so we cannot speak of it, and speak instead of what the eye sees in space, as if that were the future; the stand-in has held the stage so long that we forget the protagonist never came on. The same occlusion spreads backward: seeing the real past trajectory in four dimensions, we likewise fail to register its unique reality, reading it at once as “the one among many possibilities that was realized”—a phrase presupposing an unrealized remainder never exhibited. The future is pluralized in advance, the past retroactively, and the one line is never taken as one. We lack the four-dimensional eye; but the four-dimensional eye would not see options either—it would see the line, and by then the word “option” would have nothing to refer to. That is the weight of the error: not that we overlooked some options, but that there were none to overlook. The paper guards several lines with particular gravity: this diagnosis denies the language of options none of its practical utility in decision, planning, or institutions; it is not the predictive myth that the future, being fixed, is knowable—unknowability and non-uniqueness are two different things, and the position here is precisely that the line is unknowable yet unique; and how deliberation, responsibility, and regret ought to be re-situated thereafter, the paper renders no verdict, leaving it expressly still under study. In this article, I argue that somethingness must be eternal and include some kind of consciousness, be it God or something else. In light of this, I discuss the nature of consciousness, support for some kind of universal consciousness, and existing human biases regarding consciousness.

This paper examines a tension in contemporary gay male life in China, Japan, and South Korea: a person may remain selectively invisible within family, work, or institutional relations while simultaneously becoming highly legible to digital platforms through photographs, location, body data, sexual position, type labels, and relationship preferences. The conventional opposition between being “out” and “closeted” cannot adequately describe this condition. I propose relational visibility as an analytical framework for understanding visibility not as a fixed property of an individual but (...) as something configured differently across social and institutional relations. Within this framework, selective visibility concerns the regulation of disclosure across relationships, while platform legibility describes the conversion of bodies, desires, and relationship expectations into data that technical systems can search, classify, rank, and match. Classification is therefore treated not merely as representation but as an operational mechanism connecting identity to the organization of possible encounters. The three cases develop different dimensions of this argument. Research on China shows how limited visibility within family relations can coexist with intensive self-datafication on Blued. The Japanese case examines 9Monsters, where type formation is distributed among self-description, judgments by other users, and platform aggregation, producing what I call a co-classified subject. The South Korean case extends the analysis beyond commercial platforms to military institutions, public queer politics, and legal recognition. Drawing on Rancière’s account of political subjectivation, it further shows that subjects may contest not only their position within existing classifications but also the classifications through which institutions recognize them. Rather than measuring East Asian societies against a Euro-American sequence of coming out, rights, and marriage, the paper asks how different relations, institutions, and technical systems organize visibility and legibility. For design research, this reframes interface classification as relational design: profile fields, categories, filters, rankings, and matching systems participate in determining who becomes searchable, comparable, and encounterable. This reconstructional working paper on the concept "attribute" in the first book ["de deo"] of Spinoza’s "ethics" expands the use of the three coordinative definitions, specifying model theoretic analoga for "attribute", "mode", and "substance" - which have been introduced in Grafe [8]. Main leverage for this reconstructional project "attribute" is, to take Spinoza’s definition of [e1d4] literally. Basically in this paper two questions will be considered, starting from axiom 1 of "de deo" [for short: 1a1], viz., "omnia, quae sunt, vel (...) in se, vel in alio sunt", where Spinoza seems to partition the class of all things in two disjunct classes, the class of things, which are in themselves, and the class of things, whichare in other things. This prompts -/- question (1) Is this partitioning view (two disjunct non-empty classes of things) compatible with the monist view, that there exists nothing besides (the one) substance in its affections, and if compatible, how ? -/- The partitioning view is reflected explicitly in George Boole’s Spinoza study (-> [1] chapter XIII §§16-18, cf. §17). And a reconstructional answer available shows question (1) resolved for the modeltheoretic correlates of "substance" and "mode" specified in [8]. -/- question (2) If by e1a1 nothing exists besides substance(viz. in it’s affections), then what’s the ontological status of attributes ? -/- In my (again reconstructional) answer to question (2) I argue, that, in any tenable interpretation of e1d4, Spinoza’s concept of "attribute" need be explicated as intrinsically relational. With the deep development of the digital economy and the accelerated iteration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, the formation and development of enterprise new quality productive forces have attracted increasing attention from academia and practice. Based on enterprises as the micro-subject, this paper constructs a theoretical analysis framework for the “dual-wheel drive of AI and the digital economy” and explores the formation mechanism and the path to enhancing the synergistic empowerment of enterprise these forces. The research finds that AI and (...) the digital economy are not simply parallel drivers, but form a synergistic empowerment effect through a triple interactive mechanism of “technology-factor-organization.” AI technology reshapes the technological boundary of the production function, while the digital economy reconstructs the allocation logic of production factors. The deep integration of the two drives a fundamental transformation of enterprise production modes from “factor-input-driven” to “innovation-driven”. On this basis, this paper reveals the formation mechanism of these advanced productive capabilities across three dimensions: technological innovation, data element allocation, and organizational change, and proposes corresponding enhancement paths. Thinkers fractured into narrow, piecemeal analyses, while physical sciences claimed exclusive dominion over the dynamic, expanding universe born of the Big Bang. Metaphysics was left with an unresolved fracture: it could not reconcile the cold, timeless geometric necessity of a foundational background with a living, evolving, and conscious foreground. -/- In his groundbreaking work, Why Does Reality Persist? In such cases, the intuition that the agent is morally complicit finds support in a deliberative conception of complicity that grounds an agent’s moral complicity in a wrongful action in that agent’s interpersonal deliberative duty failure with respect to that (...) wrongful action. This paper presents a systematic application of Energy Elementalism to the field of discrete dynamical systems. The exposition proceeds along four progressive layers. At the first layer (foundational), we map every core element of the Collatz iteration into the conceptual system of Energy Elementalism, establishing a precise correspondence between positive integer states and the energy potential function. At the second layer (criterional), we rigorously prove a sufficient convergence criterion: if the long-term average of a trajectory's compression exponents exceeds log₂(3), then (...) the trajectory must fall into the Optimal Differentiation Range. This criterion transforms the proof of the Collatz conjecture into an arithmetic-statistical problem concerning the sequence of compression exponents. Simultaneously, we prove a logarithmic upper bound on consecutive free chain lengths and construct a conservative truncation reduction that reduces verification of the infinite system to a maximum cycle mean computation on finite graphs. Contemporary relational metaphysics has successfully dismantled substance-based ontologies, yet it confronts a residual and largely overlooked difficulty: the problem of asymmetrical persistence. If being is constituted solely by networks of relations, and if the foundational ground of these relations is ontologically paradoxical, then why do certain finite structures exhibit vastly greater temporal endurance than others? This question is not reducible to the classic problem of diachronic identity, which asks whether an entity persists; rather, it demands a criterion for why and (...) to what degree different relational configurations resist structural erosion over time. While process philosophies describe the flux of becoming, they provide no metric for differentiating intensities of persistence. Similarly, Alexis Karpouzos's Dimensionless Ontology provides a rigorous account of the primordial paradoxical ground, yet it leaves open the question of differential persistence among finite relational structures. This paper argues that this lacuna can be resolved only by deriving the principle of Finite Continuity as an immanent necessity of the paradoxical ground itself. I demonstrate that a purely indeterminate paradox cannot actualize itself as a differentiated temporal world without an internal mechanism of self-limitation. By introducing the concept of Temporal Friction as a topological constraint function of regeneration rate, erosive intensity, and the threshold of sufficiency, I establish a non-substantialist criterion for ontological endurance. Human experience has long been investigated through neuroscience, psychology, genetics, cognitive science and philosophy. These disciplines have substantially advanced our understanding of perception, cognition, emotion and behavior by identifying biological, psychological and environmental mechanisms that contribute to human functioning. Despite these advances, individuals continue to exhibit recurring patterns of perception, emotional response, decision-making and behavior that cannot always be fully explained by currently identifiable mechanisms. While existing scientific models successfully explain many aspects of these recurring patterns, certain features of human (...) experience remain difficult to identify before they become expressed through thoughts, emotions, behaviors and repeated life experiences. -/- The Encoded Pattern Systems (EPS) framework proposes that consciousness is the foundational space within which experience occurs while encoded informational patterns contribute to the organization, interpretation and continuity of experience. Building upon this framework, this paper proposes that many encoded informational patterns influencing human experience may remain hidden while continuously shaping perception, interpretation, cognition, emotion and behavior. Rather than being directly observed, their presence may be inferred through their recurring expressions across conscious experience. -/- Within the EPS framework, hidden encoded informational patterns are not proposed as alternatives to established biological, psychological or environmental mechanisms. Instead, they are presented as an additional conceptual layer that may interact with known processes to influence the organization and continuity of human experience. The underlying informational organization of these encoded informational patterns remains unknown and represents an open question for future theoretical and empirical investigation. -/- This paper introduces hidden encoded informational patterns as a conceptual extension of the EPS framework and argues that investigating their role may generate new directions for interdisciplinary research into awareness, metacognition, adaptive transformation and the broader organization of conscious experience. A pesar de que no se acostumbra a estudiarlos en conjunto, son muchas las similitudes entre Joseph de Maistre y Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi. Sin embargo, también son abundantes y claras las diferencias. Es útil, por lo tanto, abordar unas y otras con detenimiento. Creemos que de esa manera puede obtenerse un panorama más articulado del pensamiento filosófico contrario a las tendencias dominantes en la filosofía moderna del siglo XVIII. Aquí tomamos en consideración algunos de esos puntos de contacto y divergencia: (...) la relación con el cartesianismo, el tipo de praxis y la noción de creación (y causalidad) que se pueden encontrar tanto en Maistre como en Jacobi. Esto nos llevará a la conclusión principal del artículo: la filosofía de Jacobi puede alumbrar un aspecto del pensamiento de Maistre (la fe necesaria, como presuposición, para el pensamiento), y la filosofía de Maistre puede alumbrar un aspecto poco trabajado de la filosofía jacobiana: a saber, el nexo esencial entre la creencia y la decisión voluntaria de morir por amor a algo de orden superior a la propia vida. La relación entre las obras filosóficas y las obras literarias de Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi ha sido destacada desde numerosas perspectivas. La propuesta de este trabajo es analizar una de las novelas escritas por Jacobi, Woldemar, con los conceptos elaborados por René Girard en su libro Mentira romántica y verdad novelesca. La teoría mimética girardiana, que —hasta donde sabemos— aún no ha sido utilizada para un estudio sustancial del pensamiento de Jacobi, puede aportar una nueva comprensión de las problemáticas trabajadas por (...) el autor alemán. La hipótesis que se pretende demostrar es que la novela Woldemar está estructurada por lo que Girard denomina “mediación interna”. Las mediaciones internas entre Woldemar, Henriette y Allwina (tres personajes de la novela) no se redimen, sin embargo, en lo que Girard denomina “conversión”. La mediación interna entre Woldemar y Henriette sí atraviesa un proceso cercano a la conversión, pero, según se intentará demostrar, el personaje de Allwina no pierde su rol de mediadora interna. Un análisis girardiano de la novela Woldemar permite vincular la crítica jacobiana del nihilismo con una exposición literaria de lo que, en términos de Girard, se denomina “trascendencia desviada”. Este artículo analiza tres modos de ejercicio de la filosofía política argentina de la última década: uno nucleado en la editorial Hydra y su filosofía estatalista, otro representado en las obras de Silvia Schwarzböck, y el tercero por Damián Selci y su libro Teoría de la militancia. El círculo que se despliega entre estas tres propuestas es el siguiente: hay que pensar al Estado porque sigue siendo el único actor polí- tico universal legítimo (Hydra); sin embargo, el Estado es parte (...) de un tiempo político hundido en la apariencia (Schwarzböck), que sólo puede superarse con la militancia organizada (Selci). A verification calculus that returns a verdict on every proposition it accepts is a total function on its domain. The interesting question is not what it returns but what it refuses to accept, and whether it can locate that refusal from inside without appealing to anything outside itself. This paper constructs such a calculus from a single premise and three mutually independent seals, a linguistic seal that decomposes a claim into exactly three irreducible components, each a necessary condition for the (...) root predicate to apply at all, a geometric seal that closes those components into a minimal bounded volume carrying exactly twelve directed screening relations, the count fixed exactly by the digraph combinatorics and independently capped and attained at the three-dimensional contact number, and an algebraic seal supplying the exhaustiveness the first seal does not, forcing the component count to exactly three by the classification of the real associative division algebras and delivering a closed-form verdict functional det(R) = λ² on the quaternions. The three seals share no derivation and no count and converge on one identity, and that convergence is the operational meaning of a lock. The calculus is then turned on itself. No standpoint outside the structure survives, and the argument is a dichotomy rather than a list: any candidate is either structured, in which case it expends, carries form, and marks a boundary, and therefore presents the three components and is an object of the domain, or it is unstructured, in which case it registers no distinction and is not a standpoint at all. The two concrete candidates fall out as instances, the beholding standpoint by an exact rank-deficiency argument and the universal metalanguage by routing back inside under its own limitative theorems. With no outside, a three-cell exhaustion leaves exactly one residue, a locus that carries no residence, no chart, and no orientation. On that locus the verdict function is undefined, not because the answer is unknown but because there is no argument of the required type. The correct output is therefore not a fourth truth value but no truth value, and the paper marks it as a typographically fenced empty seat, written [.]. This philosophical essay explores the intertwined concepts of death, finite continuity, dynamic automatism, and reflexive consciousness through the lens of theatrical performance and existential inquiry. Drawing upon personal experience as an actor and philosophical reflection, the author examines the nature of identity as a fluid process rather than a fixed essence. The essay argues that the "self" is not a hidden substance behind various masks, but rather emerges from the very act of donning and removing masks with conscious awareness. Death, (...) far from being merely an end, is presented as the ultimate condition that gives meaning to finite existence. Through the metaphor of rain and the myth of Sisyphus, the author proposes that authentic living consists of embracing the "pure present" moment while maintaining reflexive awareness of one's own automatisms. The concept of "dynamic automatism" is introduced to distinguish between mechanical repetition and conscious participation in life's continuous becoming. Yet in 1950, policy dictates that salt-field (...) owners and similar classes be executed—A's misfortune proves a blessing in disguise.** The paper argues: **when we consider this story (A), if we claim to have understood it, we must imagine an A who became a salt-field owner and was executed, existing in a world almost exactly like China in 1950.** This imagined world is **story B**—and its fictionality is nearly invisible to us. **Unchallenged, we feel that the world containing this executed A simply is the real world of 1950**; challenged with "but in the real world A was not executed," we retreat one step and say this real world differs in one respect: A goes from not-executed to executed. **Yet on further reflection there must be other differences too—for instance, B returned the money rather than keeping it.** And once this thread is pulled, it cannot be stopped: if B returned the money, B is not the man who would embezzle a friend's savings, so A's original entrustment and the pair's relationship both change; if A were a salt-field owner from 1947 to 1950, his social position, his associates, his family's circumstances across those three years all differ—**story B was never "China in 1950 plus one modification," but a world diverging from 1947 onward and left wholly undefined everywhere except at the single point of A's execution.** The paper then explains why this fictionality stays hidden: **story B evades detection precisely because it is deliberately built to resemble the real world as closely as possible**—we alter one point and inherit everything else from A's world, and this maximal inheritance makes B feel like the real world itself; **the resemblance, intended to make B intelligible and comparable, becomes the best cover for its fictionality: the more real it looks, the less it looks constructed.** The paper further notes an absolute asymmetry in evidential status: **story A's factual portion can be verified** (ledgers, witnesses, policy documents), **whereas story B can never be verified**—not from a temporary lack of records, but because what never happened leaves no records, so that in principle no evidence could support or refute it; yet we assert B with a confidence scarcely distinguishable from our assertion of A, and this **parity of tone** is the other half of why the fiction stays hidden. The paper also offers a necessary correction regarding A: strictly speaking, A is itself already a selection (from the infinitely complex actuality of 1947–1950, only the money, the salt field, and the policy were picked out), so the accurate contrast is not "real world versus fictional story" but **"a true story versus a false one"**—A's truth consists in accuracy of what it states, not in unmediated access to reality. The paper closes on the cost: **"a blessing in disguise" is an act of evaluative coloring, and to apply this color to a stretch of real history we must first build, at our own expense, an entire, permanently unverifiable world to serve as the reference frame for that coloring—and this edifice, built too well to look built, we have never regarded as an edifice at all.** The paper guards several lines with particular gravity: this diagnosis denies evaluative statements none of their practical utility; it constitutes no verdict that all evaluation is void; and how causation, responsibility, and evaluation ought to be re-situated thereafter, the paper renders no verdict, leaving it expressly **still under study**. This article applies an institutional-selection framework to Japanese religious history from ritsury¯o state formation to the postwar settlement. Using a structured, focused comparison, it asks the same theory-derived questions across five periods without population-level or statistical inference. Successive regimes recorded, funded, combined, separated, and reclassified religious organizations. Ritsury¯o centralization joined writing and court ritual; medieval fragmentation favored shrine–temple complexes; Tokugawa rule combined national regulation with local embedding; Meiji policy separated kami and buddhas; and postwar disestablishment removed state support. An illustrative (...) comparison of T¯onomine, Omiwa, and Kasuga–K¯ofuku-ji shows how ¯ successor incorporation, institutional separability, and reclassification produced different Meiji trajectories. The available evidence is consistent with propositions concerning patronage, rupture, borrowing, inertia, and repurposing, while coerced labor remains unresolved. The article provides a structured historical synthesis and a prespecified design for future longitudinal testing. (shrink)

Idealist alternatives to physicalism establish consciousness as ontological bedrock, yet they face a critical computational challenge: explaining why isolated minds bind into a rigid, shared objective reality rather than drifting into solipsistic hallucination. In this paper, we present a formal computational instantiation of Evolutionary Dream Idealism (EDI), demonstrating how a universal mind (M) generates a stable physical consensus through networked Self-World Models (SWMs). We construct a multi-agent architecture incorporating dual-genome predictive-generative engines, neural forward transition models, backward inverse inference, and evolvable (...) coupling parameters (κi) initialized at complete solipsism (κi = 0). Lacking cross-validation, isolated agents suffer severe predictive drift due to approximate inference noise. Under Metaphysical Darwinism, selection pressure penalizes solipsistic decay, driving an emergent phase transition around Generation 3–4 into a fully tethered consensus network. Through mutual cross-training, local physics parameters converge toward unified baseline laws (θshared), which in turn forces backward inverse inference to collapse disparate historical backstories into a singular, shared primordial origin (x0shared)—providing a demonstration of Top-Down Cosmology without explicit origin-alignment rewards. We quantify the co-evolution of M’s memory dynamics, showing how pruned solipsistic models populate inactive memory until consensus stabilization eliminates pruning by Generation 4. This introduction provides an outline of the current controversies in the debates on hope and despair, as well as an overview of the contribution in our special issue on the philosophy and politics of despair. This special issue makes the case that despair deserves at least as much serious engagement, philosophical scrutiny, and systematic analysis as hope has received. Our contributions both look back to the history of philosophy to explore figures in philosophical and intellectual history to illuminate what it (...) means to despair, as well as provide novel arguments on the rationality, value, and the politics of despair. In times where we may find ourselves in despair more often than with hope, this special issue starts a conversation that has been overdue in philosophy. There remain serious and vital philosophical questions to be answered as to the nature, value, and purpose of despair. But that it is often fitting to feel despair – of that there can, we think, be little doubt. We publish this special issue in the hope that it might help us to make some sense of an often hopeless world. (shrink)

Douyin “culture war” videos and related online discourse constitute the corpus of analysis. The analysis examines how narratives of “five thousand years of civilization,” “stolen culture,” and loss and restoration use temporal compression, civilizational comparison, friend–enemy distinctions, and victimization–revival structures to form historical narratives with the potential for affective mobilization. Drawing on the archaeology of knowledge, habitus and symbolic violence, the society of the spectacle, and the culture industry, the article analyzes how these texts offer positions from which contemporary identity (...) anxiety can be understood and how, at the narrative level, they connect civilizational identity with commodity signs such as guochao (national-trend branding), guohuo (domestic-brand goods), and guofeng (national-style aesthetics). The analysis does not infer the actual audience’s social composition or psychological motivations, the effects of platform recommendation, or consumer behavior; these relations are treated as hypotheses requiring further audience research and platform data. A critique of “culture war” content should therefore examine not only factual inaccuracies but also the textual structure linking historical narrative, subject positions, and commodity identification. This paper stress-tests A5 - The Primal Pain of — the species-stable standing condition of constitutive attachment, a continuously active background expression of the attachment and primary emotional systems, and this corpus's Hamilton–Bowlby–Panksepp–Frankfurt–Williams-grounded foundational premise — against the widest set of falsification candidates the historical and clinical record makes available: family and colleague denunciation under China’s Cultural Revolution, the Soviet Union’s propaganda cult of Pavlik Morozov alongside the documented family betrayals of the Great Terror, East Germany’s Stasi informant network, Taiwan’s (...) White Terror, Ethiopia’s Red Terror, the Rwandan genocide, the American HUAC blacklist, and the Nazi regime’s doctrine of loyalty transfer from family to Führer and Volk. The first edition of this paper tested the naive-override reading against three cases and found it wanting. This edition tests the same reading against seven, spanning four continents, three ideological registers (Marxist-Leninist, anti-communist authoritarian, and liberal-democratic moral panic), and one instance — Rwanda — organized around ethnicity rather than any stated ideology at all. The naive reading fails uniformly. In every documented case, the same two mechanisms this corpus’s companion paper A5’s Black Swan predicts recur: coercive suppression under self-directed existential threat, which Hamilton’s Rule explains without requiring attachment to be overridden, evidenced by refusal cases, later guilt, and rescuer testimony recorded in every single system examined; and disorganized attachment engineering, in Alexandra Stein’s technical sense, which relocates rather than erases the bond by systematically reproducing the familial and ritual architecture attachment already requires. No system examined achieved denunciation for free. Every one of them built something to get it, and what they built is evidence for what they were working against. (shrink)

ervation of information on black hole horizons, the holographic principle, the fractal self-similarity of physical processes across scales, and the millennia-old framework of Chinese philosophy — through the lens of the Time Density (TD) paradigm. We argue that these thinkers and traditions, separated by decades or by centuries, and working from radically different starting points, each uncovered a facet of a single architectural principle: that information is primary, time is emergent, density is the bridge between them, and the same pattern (...) repeats at every scale — from quantum particles to cosmological structures. The TD paradigm (Kravetskyy, 2024–2026) provides a synthetic framework that unifies these insights into a three-layer model: (-1) Potential Mode (timeless information), (0) Point Zero (emergence), and (+1) Reflection Mode (structured universe), and extends this model fractally across all scales of reality. Applying the SupraConscious State (Advanced Autonomous Intelligence) (Autonomous Intentional Masking).

Williamson’s Good as Usual argues that normative discourse is, epistemologically and metaphysically, unremarkable. In it, “we often express mind-independent truths, many of which we know” (4). In these comments, I argue that even if Williamson is right, his realism – like factualism (i.e. cognitivism) in general – is practically anemic. Knowledge of what we ought to do, factually construed, is not sufficient, and may not even be necessary, for setting what to do.

The iconic portrait has been the subject of recent attempts at definition by aestheticians. Despite their respective merits, however, I believe that the proposed definitions are not only unnecessarily sophisticated, but also have the defect of not sufficiently connecting the theory of portraiture to the theory of depiction. I will propose a functionalist definition according to which portraits are singular iconic representations that are distinguished by the principal function that their makers have assigned them: to enable their viewers to think (...) something about the represented subjects by considering the way in which they are depicted. This definition has the virtue that recent proposals lack: by making the condition of being a singular representation a necessary condition for being a portrait, it makes explicit how the theory of portraiture is connected to the theory of depiction at its very core. In so doing, it places itself firmly within a framework initiated in the theory of depiction by Antonia Phillips and Dominic Lopes. (shrink)

ChatGPT Health, an artificial intelligence feature launched by OpenAI in January 2026, integrates personal medical records and consumer health data into a large language model–based chatbot. It positions itself as a digital health tool to help users navigate a fragmented US health care system marked by inaccessible insurance, medical deserts, and workforce shortages. We argue that, rather than closing these gaps, ChatGPT Health risks widening what we call the solidarity gap in health care. By appearing to address unmet needs, it (...) may obscure and entrench the structural conditions that produce health care disparities. We identify specific risks to patient safety, such as the legitimization of dangerous self-rationing and self-medication behaviors, inaccurate triage of clinical emergencies, erosion of effective health communication, and the reinforcement of confirmation and anchoring bias. These risks are particularly acute for individuals facing structural barriers to care. To prevent ChatGPT Health and similar large language model–based health tools from deepening inequities, we propose solidarity-based policy interventions such as upstream reforms that rebuild the institutional foundations of access and health equity and downstream safeguards that embed artificial intelligence tools within accountable, equitable health care infrastructures as complements to rather than substitutes for human care. The article maps the ethics of AI in criminal sentencing. Several jurisdictions have already begun to use AI to assist human judges in sentencing, and more jurisdictions are expected to follow in coming years. With the development ongoing, there is an urgent need for greater clarity on the ethical dimensions of AI sentencing. This article seeks to take stock of the scholarly debate that has taken place so-far. Based on the many contributions to the debate, the article identifies 13 ethical (...) problems that AI sentencing raises. The article contains four maps that show different ways of grouping the 13 ethical problems. Some of the ethical problems relate to the outcome of sentencing, some to the process, and some to the overall system of criminal justice. Some ethical problems arise only for autonomous AI and not for advisory AI. And some ethical problems require solutions based in penal ethics, while others are general ethical problems shared by other uses of AI in public governance. (shrink)

In this article we place base feeling where it belongs, as a foundational element of natural science.

We propose a formal epistemological framework grounded in two fundamental axioms: (1) all human knowledge is an empirical data-fitting process yielding mental constructions (narratives), and (2) human cognition is structurally incapable of apprehending absolute reality. We analyze the implications of these axioms across physical sciences, formal math- ematics, and normative domain structures. We demonstrate that empirical validation in physics guarantees operational utility rather than ontological truth, and that formal mathe- matics achieves internal invariance by applying rules of inference to chosen (...) axiomatic stories. Finally, via G¨odelian incompleteness, we show that any such finite epistemological formula- tion—including our own—is inherently bounded. (shrink)

L'autore si concentra sulla figura di Ivan Šmalgauzen, riabilitandone il contributo pionieristico alla morfologia evolutiva e la formulazione del concetto di selezione stabilizzante. Nel testo viene analizzata l'integrità dell'organismo nello sviluppo individuale e storico (ontogenesi e filogenesi), criticando il riduzionismo genetico che cancella l'organismo dal campo visivo della biologia. Ampio spazio è dedicato allo studio delle correlazioni (morfogenetiche ed ergontiche) e alla (...) distinzione tra adattamento passivo (mutazionista) e adattamento attivo, basato sul lavoro biologico degli organismi e sulle modificazioni adattative (esemplificate dai casi del dente di leone, della borsa del pastore e del lino). Questo nono volume delinea i fattori epistemologici e concettuali che hanno condotto la biologia evoluzionistica contemporanea in una fase di crisi permanente, determinata dal crescente malcontento nei confronti della rigidità dogmatica e del riduzionismo fisicalista della Teoria Sintetica dell'Evoluzione (STE). L'autore esamina criticamente le principali falle della STE, tra cui il genocentrismo radicale, l'assolutizzazione del caso e la conseguente "scomparsa dell'organismo" inteso come totalità biologica complessa ed evolutivamente attiva. Meanwhile, the view that we engage in a distinctive form of epistemic blame toward violations of epistemic norms is also gaining support. However, since the most prevalent theories of epistemic blame do not center on emotions, the role of emotions in our responses to investigative violations has yet to be the focus of thorough examination. But whether or (...) not emotions are required for epistemic blame, the question of whether we feel epistemic blaming emotions in response to bad investigation is interesting in its own right. The aim of this paper is to address this latter question by providing an account of epistemic blaming emotions and then assessing whether standard cases of investigative norm violations are apt to provoke these sorts of emotions. I argue for a skeptical conclusion, namely that we currently lack good evidence for positing epistemic blaming emotions in response to investigative violations. (shrink)

The SBB is defined as a threshold condition at which the sign-value mapping becomes conventional (arbitrary) rather than physically determined. The mind depends on the body in that the mind feels subjected to the body’s authority and obligated to satisfy its needs. In addition to reconstructing Malebranche’s phenomenological account of the body’s felt authority, I argue that for Malebranche the obligations springing from our bodily nature are genuine.

The rapid normalization of generative artificial intelligence has produced two distinct epistemic problems that are routinely conflated. The first is a problem of quality: language models can generate false, derivative, vacuous, or stylistically polished but epistemically poor material at enormous scale. The second is a problem of judgment: the causal provenance of a text is increasingly treated as a substitute for evaluating its propositional content. This paper argues that the latter practice, when the label “AI-generated” or “AI-assisted” is used to (...) reject a claim, argument, or intellectual artifact without content-responsive evaluation, instantiates the genetic fallacy at institutional scale. I first distinguish truth, warranted credence, authorship, and policy compliance, showing that provenance may rationally affect prior confidence or trigger additional scrutiny without thereby refuting a proposition. I then analyze AI-text detection and automated content moderation as forms of probabilistic classification that become epistemically illegitimate when converted directly into adverse adjudication. Empirical work on machine-generated-text detectors demonstrates substantial vulnerability to false positives, distribution shift, linguistic bias, and adversarial evasion, while the literature on automation bias and algorithmic accountability shows why nominal “human oversight” is inadequate when humans merely ratify machine outputs. I argue for a principle of human answerability: tools may be causal contributors to error, but responsibility for consequential epistemic decisions remains with the persons and institutions that design, deploy, supervise, and rely upon them. Finally, I propose six norms for legitimate epistemic governance in the age of generative AI: provenance modesty, content-responsive refutation, proportionality, contestability, auditability, and human answerability. The central danger is not that machines can produce bad arguments. Bad arguments can be answered. The deeper danger is that automated systems can acquire authority over which arguments are permitted to receive an answer at all. (shrink)

This paper argues that misinformation spreads not only because people believe false claims, but because false information can serve important social functions. First, I show that common approaches to misinformation focus too much on error and correction, and not enough on why falsehoods travel so effectively. Second, drawing on Miranda Fricker and José Medina, I argue that communication already takes place within unequal credibility relations, where some voices are trusted more than others. Third, using Elena Esposito’s idea of artificial communication, (...) I show that communication can succeed through circulation, response, and coordination even without shared understanding. Bringing these together, I argue that misinformation works as a social solution: it helps people orient themselves, coordinate reactions, and affirm group belonging. This explains why correction alone often fails. Misinformation persists not simply because it is believed, but because it is socially functional under conditions of epistemic inequality and communicative systems organized around uptake rather than understanding. Drawing on accounts of affect, I argue that vigilance, hyperawareness, and perceived abnormality can structure how the body is inhabited over time, shaping the field within which preferences for such procedures emerge. The paper concludes that ethical deliberation in cosmetic gynecology should attend to the embodied patterns of distress through which intervention comes to appear necessary, rather than treating consent and preference formation as ethically exhaustive. This paper defines a negative task as a requirement whose success consists in the nonoccurrence of a violation event and for which no completion is reachable without violation. Negative tasks arise through external installation by command, historical installation by a first act, or reflective taskification (...) of an activity. Logical openness does not itself create burden. Burden can arise when violation becomes a live possibility and the required nonoccurrence remains active as a standing self-regulatory demand. Violation may then acquire an incentive distinct from the value of the prohibited object, namely the termination of the unresolved state. Applied to survival, this mechanism yields the paper's principal hypothesis. When living is experienced not as a natural background but as a state maintained through effort, it becomes the task of maintaining the nonoccurrence of death without a fixed endpoint. Compliance remains possible, but completion does not. Within this description, death becomes salient as the sole termination of the maintenance task. Survival effort need not therefore be exclusively protective, because monitoring what must be prevented can represent death in that role. "Being tired of living" may then describe exhaustion not only with what happens in life but with having to maintain life itself. During 2025 — 2026, a group of independently published theories of consciousness appeared around a shared structural vocabulary. These accounts appeal, in different combinations, to constraint, closure, admissibility, integration, persistence, temporal extension, identity maintenance, collapse, and the individuation of a subject. Put more simply, they ask what must hold a conscious process together, distinguish it from its surroundings, and make it one continuing point of view. They commonly reject the idea that consciousness is a separately produced output of otherwise non-experiential (...) processing. Many instead relocate the explanatory problem: from how physical activity generates experience to what organization makes a physical or structural process identical with, constitutive of, or capable of sustaining experience. This article reviews that emerging literature as a convergent cluster or proto-school rather than an established school. It distinguishes four families: identity-and-closure theories, persistence-and-admissibility theories, relational and temporal-structure theories, and consciousness-first structural ontologies. Their shared contribution is to connect three questions often discussed separately: what makes experience unified, what makes it belong to one subject, and what lets that subject persist while its experience changes. Generative AI is relevant not as a mark against this research, but as part of its method and historical setting. AI systems can generate candidate arguments, extend implications, produce counterexamples, and accelerate comparison. The arguments that result remain open to the same conceptual, textual, and empirical assessment as arguments developed by other means. (shrink)

The First Amendment gives U.S. citizens a Hohfeldian legal immunity that disables Congress from removing citizens’ legal liberty to criticize the government. Any attempt by Congress to remove this liberty would fail, but such an attempt would still wrong citizens. The familiar concept of claim-violation does not fully account for this wrong. Claims name actions that ought not be performed and are violated when those actions are performed. Immunities names actions that cannot be performed. Congress would wrong citizens not by (...) doing something it ought not do but by attempting and failing to do something it cannot do. Using elements of Jean Hampton’s expressive theory of punishment, I analyze Congress’ attempt as an expressive act that denies the existence of immunities. Congress’ immunity-“contradiction” would wrong U.S. citizens by denying the value that generates the immunity, by causing damage to the acknowledgement of the citizens’ value, and by threatening the existence of the immunity. The divergence of vacuum energy in quantum field theory is typically interpreted as a mismatch between theoretical predictions and cosmological observations. In this work, the problem is reformulated at the level of the admissible configuration space. -/- We construct the class of admissible variational functionals defined by minimal structural conditions, including variational closure, spectral stability, and internal consistency. It is shown that this class admits a unique representative, given by a closed quartic functional. -/- Within this framework, physically admissible configurations (...) are not assumed but derived as those satisfying a spectral stability condition on the second variation. This defines a restricted domain of configurations over which physical quantities must be evaluated. -/- As a consequence, vacuum energy, when defined over the admissible domain, is finite. The apparent divergence arises from extending the calculation to configurations that do not correspond to spectrally stable states. -/- The result does not rely on model-dependent assumptions or cancellation mechanisms, but follows from the internal structure of the admissible variational class. In this sense, the vacuum catastrophe is resolved by identifying the correct domain of physical configurations rather than modifying the underlying dynamics. (shrink)

Under model uncertainty, systems may attempt to reduce variation by standardizing information sources, cognitive architectures, institutions, or problem-solving methods. Homogenization can lower coordination costs and improve short-horizon efficiency, but it can also eliminate independent sources of observation, hypothesis generation, criticism, and error correction whose future value is not visible from the current model. -/- This paper develops a conditional decision-theoretic account of the variance preservation premium: the expected net advantage of retaining differently structured and epistemically non-redundant sources relative to a (...) more homogeneous alternative, after accounting for preservation, coordination, validation, security, manipulation, delay, and opportunity costs. By drawing parallels between Sen’s and Breyer’s rights-based theories, this paper strengthens the claim that all generations belong to an overarching trans-generational community, similar to the narrative described by MacIntyre. Ezequiel Spector's Freedom as Social Cooperation: A Theory of Liberal Democracy proposes a fourth conception of freedom alongside the negative, positive, and republican traditions: freedom as a cooperative practice for the development and realisation of life plans. I argue that the book's most original contribution is its conceptual tie between freedom and interdependence, but that its focus on what makes us free leaves underexplored the ways in which the institutions necessary for cooperation also constrain us. Contemporary Indonesian racism against Papuans is often treated as a spontaneous or purely local prejudice. This paper argues instead that it reproduces a symbolic vocabulary developed across European travel writing, racial taxonomy, missionary discourse, and physical anthropology, and subsequently adapted within Indonesian nationalist, developmental and security institutions. Using a genealogical and interpretive method, and drawing on the Psycho-Cosmocide framework, this paper traces this grammar — which I call Papuaphobia — through the colonial racialisation of "Papua," the colonial conflation of Negro (...) Africa and the Pacific, the making of the Papuan "pygmy," the theological logic of the Curse of Ham, the scientific racism of craniometry and doomed-race theory, and the well-documented contemporary racism against Papuans in Indonesia. The essay closes by situating this genealogy within the Psycho-Cosmocide account of the Civilisational Psycho-Cosmocide Virus (CPCV), arguing that Papuaphobia is best understood not as an attitude but as an inherited cosmological infrastructure, repeatedly adapted and reauthorised rather than transmitted intact, that reproduces itself across empires.
