The electric atmosphere generated by the people of Italy during the spectacular Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games has been recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with the Olympic Cup. IOC President Kirsty Coventry presented the Olympic Cup today during a ceremony at Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome to the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on behalf of the Italian people. The IOC President also awarded the Olympic Order to President Mattarella, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and senior Italian authorities.

LA28 announces Cultural Olympiad programme

The “Fit for the Future” (F4F) process to define the strategy of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) under the leadership of President Kirsty Coventry in the next seven years is approaching an important milestone: the Extraordinary 146th IOC Session on 24 and 25 June in Lausanne, Switzerland. This will not be the finish line but an important moment to set the direction of the organisation. During its recent meeting, the IOC Executive Board (EB) discussed the progress made in the F4F process.

Fit for the Future: IOC Session in June important moment but not the finish line 

The IOC Executive Board (EB) has approved qualification systems for boxing and water polo for the LA28 Olympic Games, as well as for mixed doubles curling for the Dolomiti Valtellina 2028 Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG).  The IOC EB also agreed to pause the election process for the 2030 Youth Olympic Games and took a decision on extending the terms of office for two IOC Members and will propose this to the IOC Session.
