BlogHer Network Privacy Statement
Updated: 29 January 2006

We want the BlogHer Network community to be built on trust. This online privacy statement tells you about the information the BlogHer Network collects through the Web site and how we use that information. By using our services and accessing the BlogHer Network, you are consenting to the information collection and use practices described in this statement, as modified from time to time by us. If we decide to change our privacy statement, we will post a new statement on the BlogHer Network and change the date at the top of the statement. Therefore, we encourage you to check the date of our privacy statement whenever you visit the BlogHer Network for any updates or changes.

  1. Information about you. Except as disclosed in this statement, we do not sell or disclose information that identifies our users of the BlogHer Network personally or makes it possible for other parties to contact them directly. We only collect non-personal information in the aggregate ("Aggregate Information"), such as pages visited, on the BlogHer Network.
  • Voluntarily provided information. Registration is required to post on the site, at which point a valid email address is requested. This email address will remain private. In addition, information voluntarily provided by you in the "Private Information" area of the registration process will remain private. However, we reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on BlogHer. The rest of the information you provide in your user profile will be visible to others, including anonymous visitors to the site.
  • Other information. The site collects other information by use of internet technology available to make this site function properly.
    1. Cookies. We collect aggregate information about you and your use of the BlogHer Network whenever you visit us online. This includes use of cookies to store your user session IDs. BlogHer uses session ID cookies to make it easier for you to navigate our site. A session ID cookie expires when you close you browser. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive for an extended period of time. You can remove persistent cookies by following directions provided in your Internet browser's "help" file. BlogHer does not use cookies to track your web browsing on other websites.
    2. Click Tracking. As is true of most Web sites, BlogHer gathers certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and clickstream data. We use this information to analyze trends, to administer the site, to track users' movements around the site and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole. Except as noted herein, we do not link this automatically-collected data to personally identifiable information.
    3. IP Addresses. Each user's IP address is logged with each visit and each action performed on the site. This information is never provided to the public, and is logged only for a temporary period of time. IP address information is linked to user data and may be used in an effort to block a "banned" user from accessing the website.
    4. Advertising. If there is advertising on the site, such advertising may employ the use of cookies or other methods to track hits and click-throughs. We are not responsible for advertiser cookies or how the information gathered through their use might be used.
    5. Participation on a Public Website. You should be aware that any personally identifiable information you submit on this website in blogs, comments, other posts and your user profile can be read, collected, or used by other users of this website, including anonymous visitors, and could be used to send you unsolicited messages. We are not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit on this website.
    6. Aggregate information. We may collect, compile, store, publish, promote, report, sell, or otherwise disclose or use any and all Aggregate Information, provided that, such information does not personally identify you. When we share such information with other companies, it is not traceable to any particular user, and will not be used to contact you.
  • Co-branded service offerings. At some point, we may share aggregate information with certain businesses with which BlogHer has formed a strategic alliance. You may be able to identify these businesses because BlogHer has authorized them to display clearly identified and branded images on the BlogHer Network and in its communications. These strategic partners are requested to clearly state their own privacy policies on their own web sites or promotional materials, and if you provide them with your personal information, it may become subject to the policies of the respective company. No personal information identifiable to a specific user is collected or shared from the BlogHer Network.
  • Third Party Services. The BlogHer Network reserves the right to offer third party services and products to you on the Web site, such as via the conference sponsorship area and via newsletters, based on the preferences that you identify during the registration process and based on your subsequent preferences. We may share aggregated demographic information about our user base with other entities, such as advertisers. This information does not identify individual users. We do not link aggregate user data with personally identifiable information. We may share personally identifiable information with third-party vendors and partners only in those situations where you have given us prior, specific permission to do so.
  • Links to Other Sites. BlogHer contains links to other sites that are not owned or controlled by BlogHer. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage you to be aware when you leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information.
