Save the Children's Monthly Giving has Evolved
As the world changes, so do the needs of children. That's why Save the Children must continuously innovate and adapt—as we have for the past century—to ensure we can support kids when and where they need us most. Factors such as conflict, extreme weather events, and growing inequality are causing more families to migrate, which means we must be more nimble than ever in responding to their immediate and ongoing needs, every day and in times of crises. As a result, we made an important shift that will enable us to extend the impact of every dollar donated—significantly reducing administrative costs and ultimately spending more time and funds directly on our programs for children. We want you to be part of this change.

Words From A Supporter
"Children are the backbone to any and every society. No human being should grow up without parents, food, water, or shelter. I want to do my part to see them thrive."

Save the Children's Monthly Giving has Evolved
The stakes for children have never been higher. Around the world, more children are living in conflict zones. In rural America, kids are struggling with food insecurity. Globally, far too many children are out of school, and the number facing risks from extreme weather events is even higher.
Save the Children has been a pioneer in child sponsorship since the early 1900s. We've witnessed how much the world has changed since then, along with the needs of children, their families, and communities. For over 100 years, we've consistently innovated and adapted our programs to remain a lean and agile global humanitarian organization.
That's why we've recently transformed the way we work—to better meet the evolving needs of children and communities. We're truly grateful that you've chosen to be a part of this journey. With your sustained support, we can create even more lasting, positive change for children everywhere.
Your gift amount will stay the same and will continue to be combined with contributions from other donors to support children in the U.S. and around the world. This includes, but is now not limited to, areas where we operated child sponsorship programs.
Rest assured: the child(ren) you were sponsoring will continue to receive support through Save the Children for as long as they choose to remain enrolled in our programs in their community. We remain unwavering in our commitment to the families and communities we work with. We've partnered with community leaders and our country offices to develop thoughtful transition plans, ensuring we can continue making a significant and sustainable impact, tailored to their needs and challenges.
Thank you for your longstanding support and dedication to our work. Together, we're building a brighter future for children everywhere.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did you stop child sponsorship?
As the world changes, so do the needs of children. That is why Save the Children must continuously innovate and adapt—as we have for the past century—to ensure we can support children when and where they need us most.
An extensive global review and consultation of our child sponsorship programs in 2020—hearing from communities, country office staff, supporters like you and most importantly, the children themselves—revealed that we can do even more to support children and their communities when and where they need us most. Factors like conflict, extreme weather events, and growing inequality are causing more children and families to migrate, and child sponsorship lacks the flexibility to support their immediate and ongoing needs.
As a result, Save the Children made the decision to discontinue child sponsorship, transitioning to a more flexible and impactful programming approach that will support the collective needs of children and communities facing the most pressing challenges today. This change will also allow donations to reach more kids, significantly reducing administrative costs and ultimately allowing us to spend more time and funds directly on our programs. We aim to create a more inclusive experience for all children in the communities we work with, allocate resources more efficiently, and continue driving sustainable progress for children’s health, education and safety—today and for years to come.
When did this change take place?
This change took place throughout 2025.
Will my gift stay the same?
Yes, your recurring gift amount will remain the same. Your generous donations will continue to be combined with gifts from other donors to meet both immediate and ongoing needs of children in the U.S and around the world. This includes, but is not limited to, areas where we currently operate child sponsorship initiatives. If you wish to discuss your gift or make changes, please contact us at [email protected] or 1-800-728-3843, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (EST).
What happened to the child I was sponsoring?
Children will continue to receive support from Save the Children in their community as long as they are enrolled in our programs. These are designed to be long-term, sustainable and locally-led, providing ongoing benefits for kids, such as better access to education, healthcare and protection. Our aim is to ensure every child can thrive and reach their full potential. By combining your contributions with other supporters, we can continue to reach kids and communities with the greatest need, while also decreasing overhead costs and providing our teams with flexibility to expand our reach and impact.
To ensure a sensitive transition away from child sponsorship, we provided our program staff in sponsorship communities with best practice guidance and resources to share this news with children in the most sensitive and age-appropriate way. These tools enabled our team to communicate effectively and compassionately about the transition to children, parents and communities in a way that they could easily understand. From coloring book illustrations to home visits with families and conversations with trusted adults, our teams used a variety of activities to explain the changes and provide a safe space for children to ask questions and express their emotions. In another region, particularly for children who cherish letter writing, we provided stationery to encourage them to keep expressing their feelings and dreams through writing with their family and teachers.
Please rest assured that we managed this communication with due care based on our extensive experience, explaining to children that this change is not a reflection of their relationship with their sponsor, but an innovation to ensure we can support them when and where they need us most.
How will I continue to hear about my impact going forward?
Moving forward, you’ll continue to receive updates highlighting the positive change your generous gift is creating for children. You’ll also receive inspiring stories from various communities, along with additional content that showcases how your ongoing support contributes to building a better future for kids in the U.S and around the world.
Although letter writing will no longer be an option, children and communities will be able to voice what matters most to them and tell their own stories in other ways. Our goal is authentic storytelling that lets you and other donors hear directly from the children and communities you support. We aim to further strengthen our supporter community around our shared commitment to addressing the major challenges children face. We’re working to provide more opportunities for meaningful connection, including webinars, online program visits, focus groups, volunteer and advocacy engagement, and beyond.
Can I send letters to children?
We know our donors and the children in our programs have cherished the emotional connections fostered by sponsorship over the years. Children often referred to their sponsors as “friends” and took pride in corresponding with them. However, only 20% of sponsors engaged in letter writing, leaving many kids feeling disappointed and left out.
We’re committed to ensuring all children in the communities we work feel included and engaged in our programs, so direct correspondence is no longer available. By removing this option, we’re reducing our operational costs, which helps your money go even further to support the children in our programs. We also hope to encourage kids and communities to voice their priorities and tell their own stories in ways that feel most authentic to them. For instance, by providing stationery to kids who cherish letter writing so they can continue to express their feelings and dreams through writing to their friends and family.
While direct correspondence with a child is no longer an option in our recurring giving program, you'll stay connected to the work we are doing together and how your support is helping deliver impact for kids. We’ll provide personalized stories, updates and share additional ways for you to engage.
How is this change better for children?
Save the Children’s priority is to ensure all children have a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. This shift in our recurring giving offering allows our team to spend more time and resources directly on our programs, while enabling a more inclusive, fair and enjoyable experience for all children in the communities we work. By reducing administrative costs, we extend the impact of every donation—benefiting more children in the U.S and around the world.
We didn't abandon children or communities due to this change—we partnered with them and our country offices to develop thoughtful transition plans, ensuring we continue to make a significant and sustainable impact, tailored to their current needs and challenges.
What makes Save the Children unique—why should I continue to support you vs. other non-profits?
Save the Children is the world’s leading independent child rights organization, focusing on children’s health, education and protection. Founded by Eglantyne Jebb over 100 years ago in the aftermath of World War I, we were the first international movement for children—boldly declaring that they have rights.
Backed by this ambitious vision, a century of expertise and a global footprint, we’re one of the most highly regarded humanitarian organizations in the world. With an average of 84 of every dollar going directly to benefit the children and families we work with, our proven program responsibility and fiscal accountability in over 100 countries is consistently recognized, earning high ratings from independent services like Charity Watch. We’ve received the highest four-star rating from Charity Navigator and are also accredited by the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance.
As a Save the Children supporter, you can be sure you’re part of a movement dedicated to creating lasting, positive change—for, and with, children.
What is Team Tomorrow?
Team Tomorrow is Save the Children's monthly giving program, designed to engage supporters worldwide in building a better tomorrow by collectively addressing the issues that impact children and their communities most. Each donor is connected to the causes they care about through customized updates on how their monthly donation helps us partner with children, communities and local organizations to create lasting, positive change.
