Learning to make vectors

[edit]

Hello! As you might or might not know I have made a few vectors; but I feel that they could be better. I was wondering what software, and procedures that you use to create vectors. Because I feel I am not efficient on them.

With Regards! Netjerudua (talk) 03:52, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Netjerudua, I know that many users that make vector images use a piece of software called Inkscape however I can not use it for reasons I do not want to go in to here so instead I use a website called Photopea but the most impotent thing is that when you download and upload images you do it in a format called SVG because it is more high quality and it saves layers so it is easier to work with. other website I have used in the past include; Pixlr (before it became all AI) but it does not allow you to upload SVG's (I believe they have there own format that works similor but is not accepted on most websites including Wikipedia), And the Scratch image editor which works surprisingly well and is easy to learn but does lack in feature and can only handle small files.
another thing to note is that there are 2 main styles of egyptian god vector on wikipedia: 1 made by Eternal Space, and one made by Jeff Dahl, the Jeff Dahl style is often uploaded in SVG's but you have also uploaded some images particularly recently in the Eternal Space style and all of those are PNG's. PharaohCrab (talk) 12:53, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thank you very much! Netjerudua (talk) 16:38, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sandwiching text between images

[edit]

Hi, I'm Skye. With regard to your edit to Baphomet, please see WP:SANDWICH. Images should not sandwich text between them. The link provides suggestions for how to include an image without creating sandwiched text. Skyerise (talk) 15:30, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

done! PharaohCrab (talk) 15:51, 22 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for the changes in the article above. However, i am not very happy with them, indeed I avoided the word normarch for some reason. It is a Greek word and it is not so useful to describe a governor of the Old Kingdom, so the word governor was used on purpose with just a link to normarch (see here Jessica Tomkins, The Misnomer of Nomarchs ZÄS 2018; 145(1): 95–104 ([1]) best wishes Udimu (talk) 05:42, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you would like to change it back, I will not stop you. however I would prefer nomarch because it is most often used, it may be a later invention never used in old kingdom Egypt, but so are a lot of words used when ancient Egypt is discussed for example; the word pharaoh was never used to describe the king until Thutmose III at the earliest, but we have no problem calling earlier kings pharaohs. even calling it Egypt is inaccurate because the native name transliterates to Kemet. PharaohCrab (talk) 13:25, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
the original text had a link and mentioned nomarch, but the title is Greek, a proper translation of the Egyptian title would be overlord of province XX. I will think about it, but i am not comfortable with slightly outdated research, if there is newer research out. Udimu (talk) 15:05, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Fake image

[edit]

Hello. Please refrain from adding this fake image into the Kek (mythology) article. On 17 November 2024 you changed the existing image with a fake image without giving any explanation for doing that. Please do nont re-add this fake image. Thank you. 77.7.208.201 (talk) 18:10, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

this images is not "fake", it is based on greco-Roman period depictions of the Ogdoad, where all 4 male member have frog heads, while the other male members also have other depictions, Kek does not and thus were using the frog head PharaohCrab (talk) 18:23, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Pepe the frog, which is an image that has been politicised in the past couple of years, and which has been rather amateurishly photoshoped into the image which you added, has nothing to do with Egyptian mythology. WP:BURDEN stipulates that "All content must be verifiable. The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material, and it is satisfied by providing an inline citation to a reliable source that directly supports the contribution." The addition of the image containing Pepe the frog into the Kek (mythology) article which you made on 17 November 2024 did not have any verifiable reliable source. Please adhere to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thank you. 77.7.208.201 (talk) 18:50, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do have a source in the form of this image of the Ogdoad, Kek and Kauket (along with the other members) are clearly shown with frog and serpent head. also, I am not by any definition vandalizing, as you claim, this is at worst, an edit war. PharaohCrab (talk) 19:05, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
By Wikipedia's definition, "vandalism has a very specific meaning: editing (or other behavior) deliberately intended to obstruct or defeat the project's purpose, which is to create a free encyclopedia, in a variety of languages, presenting the sum of all human knowledge." The new image which you now provided, has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the fake image that has pepe-the-frog as the head. Please do not re-add this fake image back into the article again. Thank you. 77.7.208.201 (talk) 19:13, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to add the new image please feel free to do so. But please do not think that people will not notice pepe-the-frog in that other fake image. Thank you. 77.7.208.201 (talk) 19:15, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's just a frog, based on ancient depictions of frog headed deities like Heqet, it is not Pepe's head that would look more like this [2] image I found on pinterest PharaohCrab (talk) 19:26, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Pinterest is not a reliable source, according to Wikipedia's definition of reliable sources (see WP:SPS, WP:RS/SPS, WP:V). I have no more time to deal with this issue. If the fake image is re-added, there will be no 4th warning template given. The issue will then be brought directly to the admin's attention at the appropriate administrator board. Anybody can remove warning templates (apart from declined block reviews) from their own userpage, since it is considered an acknowledgement that they've been read. That said, you were edit-warring to insert a plainly inappropriate image, so any more and you will be courting a block. Acroterion (talk) 16:23, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edits

[edit]

Just a reminder that minor edits are a specific type of edit. They are for things that aren't disputed like correcting spelling mistakes or error messages, wikilinks, etc. Adding anything to pages outside of this such as content, images, or info boxes, are not minor edits and shouldn't be marked as such. Merytat3n (talk) 02:40, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

yeah I know I sometimes mark major edits as minor. its because I do or at least did a lot of actually minor edits so it's become a bit of a habit, I try not to but I sometimes do, due to my muscle memory PharaohCrab (talk) 02:56, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

PharaohCrab's description does not match the technical data. Combined with their demonstrated ability to continue editing, I do not believe this user is a candidate for WP:IPBE at this time. This is without prejudice to a future unblock request that properly explains what proxy they are using and why they are forced to use it. That is, I can imagine a future IPBE request that provides sufficient justification. --Yamla (talk) 11:49, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

normarch

[edit]

Hello, I think we discussed that before. You introduced in several article the term nomarch. I wrote sometimes (in older literature often called Nomarch) and you deleted that. You ignore here a shift in recent Egyptology. The term nomarch' is just a bit out of date and recent studies prefer other words such as governor or just translate the Egyptian titles word by word. Nomarch is a Greek term not an Egyptian one.Udimu (talk) 18:06, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

but that is not the consensus between all Egyptologists many still prefer the term Nomarch which is also by far the more commonly used term on wikipedia. I also wonder why is this specific Greek term is "outdated" but none of the many other Greek terms used commonly when talking about ancient Egypt aren't PharaohCrab (talk) 18:23, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think more commonly used term on wikipedia is not a good argument, honestly. I did not make a survey on recent Egyptological literature on that word. but the term normarch is just not very precise and the Egyptian titles behind it are changing over time. I added some more recent literature in the article nomarch, but I would be grateful if you are more cautious about that word (especially in the articles written by me ;-)) Udimu (talk) 18:29, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Periagua

[edit]

May I ask why to converted Periagua to a redirect? The term partially overlaps Piroque, but is at least partially distinct. Donald Albury 23:28, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

it seemed to me like they were the same thing due to the fact that both articles describe them as small vessels or canoes and come from the Carib word piraua but I do now notice that the old Periagua page said they were different but it never said how, if they really aren't the same thing then I would like you to explain what the difference is. PharaohCrab (talk) 23:40, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"Periagua" or "piragua" is the older form, which the French borrowed as "piroque". Periagua remained the term of use in the Caribbean, and, perhaps, other Spanish-speaking areas. I have recently seen references to the form "piragua" in Dalca, referring to a small vessel historically used by the Chono people, and La Piragua, a Colombian song about a canoe. "Periagua" was later used in the U.S. for specific styles of small craft that, as far as I know, were never called piroques. I created the article because I had run across references to "periaguas" as ocean-going vessels in sources about historical topics related to the Caribbean, such as carrying shipwrecked sailors from Florida to Jamaica and serving as pirate vessels, and "piroque" didn't seem to fit the concept of a "periagua". I would prefer to not have that information be lost. Donald Albury 12:52, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
From that, it seems to me like Periagua is the generic term and piroque is simply the french term but it was sometimes also applied to other types of boats. So I think the best way to do this is to have one page with the title Periagua with a subsection for the term piroque PharaohCrab (talk) 13:31, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect there would be pushback on that idea. My impression is that "piroque" has been applied in English language sources to many styles of small boats around the world because many North Americans were aware of the term "piroque", but not of other locally used terms for small boats. If the majority of reliable sources call something a "piroque", so should we. In other cases, we should call each type of small craft by the name most commonly used in English language reliable sources. I am willing to consider how the content might be merged into "Piroque", but the article might become bloated doing that for all the types of small craft around the world that might be called a piroque. There is also the problem of calling something a piroque if few or no sources do so. Donald Albury 14:26, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
perhaps you are correct and they are different, I will not object to the pages being unmerged but in both article try to make it clear what the difference is between the two and make it so they don't overlap that much. also add a hatnote. PharaohCrab (talk) 14:51, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I want to think about it some more. I may seek more input on how to handle this. I'll let you know if I do that. Donald Albury 15:23, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note

[edit]

Dear User PharaohCrab,

Thank you for your kind message. I also created the wikipedia article and sourced most of the gold images for Dush, Egypt. I also created the articles for TT139, Giulio Farina , TT218 and TT219 where I got colour images licensed freely for them...except for Farina where there was an existing Italian wikipedia article which I translated.

On Wikimedia Commons, I contacted flickr users and got images licensed freely Here Here , HERE and Over Here In 2026, unfortunately, I will be less active on wikipedia due to work commitments but I can email you a few newer papers on Ancient Egypt if you wish to Email me...as in "Email this user". Egyptian specialist books and articles are really costly. Life in Canada is very expensive today due to post covid-inflation. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:46, 19 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't need any sources right now because I mostly copyedit but if I ever need a non-free Egyptology source I can't find in the Wikipedia library I will keep you in mind PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 17:46, 19 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Edit on the book page

[edit]

You reverted my edit on Wonderful Ethiopians of the Ancient Cushite Empire citing that the book cover image is free use. But the file is not free use, as you can see when you click on the image file. We need to find a cover page for the book that was published before 1930 so we can upload that as a free image. In the current way, the image is non-free. I am reverting your edit. Request you to not revert it again before discussing. Kingsacrificer (talk) 08:47, 16 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes the image is non free but it was uploaded for use in the article and is fair use which I meant to say instead of free use, sorry about any confusion that came from that typo. PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 12:30, 16 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it is fair use (I was the one who uploaded it in the first place), but as I said the book was published before 1930 so the original cover is actually in public domain. Just need to find it, haha. Kingsacrificer (talk) 12:32, 16 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That might take a little while so in the mean time I don't see why the non-free version can't be used. PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 12:36, 16 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
According to WP:NFCC criterion #1, we cannot use a non-free image where a free image can become available.

Hello! I was one of the participants in this AfD. Thank you for withdrawing the nomination.

Do you know about WP:BEFORE? It is a procedure that is recommended as best practices to be followed before nominating an article for deletion.

Have a nice holiday season. Netherzone (talk) 20:52, 19 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I think this is the correct template to use: See: Template:Copied when content is copied from one Wikipedia article to another instead of the one that you added (the big pink copy/paste template). See: Template:Copied for more information. Happy editing Netherzone (talk) 21:04, 19 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@PharaohCrab, Hello again, there is also an error in the template that you added to Talk:Paneb, it needs to include a link to the actual AfD discussion. Please complete the process; you can learn about the procedure for doing so here: WP:AFD. Netherzone (talk) 23:13, 21 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@PharaohCrab, You have placed an incorrect template on the article Paneb. Please see my message above explaining that the correct template is: Template:Copied when content is copied from one Wikipedia article to another instead of the one that you added (the big pink copy/paste template). See: Template:Copied for more information.
The issue with the article is different that a copyright violation where content is copied from another website or source. When copying from WP to WP, it's an attribution issue.
Please try to read and digest the information about how the WP:AFD process works, including WP:BEFORE. Otherwise it wastes other editors time. Netherzone (talk) 23:32, 21 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I saw that but I've been putting it off because it requires me to find the exact revision it was copied from and the template confused me a bit but now seem like as good a time as any to get around to it PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 23:49, 21 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Undoing your closure

[edit]

Hi, I see you closed a merge proposal in which you were involved. WP:MERGE is pretty clear about who can close these discussions: (emphasis in original)

Any user, including the user who first proposed the merge, may close the discussion and move forward with the merge if enough time (normally one week or more) has elapsed and the consensus is clear or there has neen no discussion. [...] In more unclear, controversial cases, the determination that a consensus to merge has or has not been achieved should be made by an editor who is neutral and not directly involved in the merge proposal or the discussion. The discussion can be listed at the Proposed article mergers noticeboard to attract the attention of more editors. If necessary, you can request that an uninvolved editor close the discussion at the Closure requests noticeboard.

Could you therefore consider reverting your closure? Thanks! FaviFake (talk) 18:14, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know I wasn't supposed to close the discussion myself and I will keep that in mind for the future but I don't think I will re-open it because the discussion has been open since October with basically no participation and given that I still am in favor of the merge me closing it doesn't have any conflict of interest but if you feel differently, I invite you to revert it yourself I will not stop you. Edit on a page on Ganymede's surface features.

[edit]

Hello again @PharaohCrab. I noticed that you made a minor edit on the page List of geological features on Ganymede.

I didn't know you were into astronomy as well. IapetusCallistus (talk) 15:08, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

That was an automatic edit that changed all links to the disambiguate page Sais to instead lead to Sais, Egypt using this user script. I have little interest in astronomy. PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 15:14, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Alright. It caught my attention since half of all surface features on the moon Ganymede are named after deities, figures, and worship centers from Egyptian mythology.
Anyways, all the best. IapetusCallistus (talk) 15:19, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

New Wikipedia member

[edit]

Hey, I am a new wikipedia editor, I am very happy to see your profile has so many contributions to wikipedia especially in Egyptology, I was wondering if you would kindly take time to improve some articles that I may suggest so that I could learn from your edit pattern.

If you have time I could suggest some articles. Deceptecon (talk) 23:38, 6 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

sure, what articles do you have in mind? PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 23:44, 6 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I greatly appreciate your reply, I provided below a list of some wikipedia articles where I noticed the articles need some work, I provided some notes next to each suggested article:
Traditional Berber religion The article needs some work, for instance the french wikipedia article contains a table of deities (Fr) and a festivals section (Fr) that the english article does not.
Lamia this article is related to both greek and Libyco-Berber (Libyan) mythologies, I am curious how you would approach this if you were to create a infobox for her and classify her type as Libyco-Berber mythology with greek mythology template below or vice versa or neither or something else.
Massylii The article looks like a stubb despite much available information, the article seems to lack for an infobox and work on history. in french wikipedia (Fr) it contains an infobox, Etymology section, Geography, History, Political organization...etc
Gurzil the article in (Fr) has an infobox and plenty of information that the english counterpart does not, if it had an infobox It could be classified as Libyco-Berber deity
Numidian cavalry this article contains the template message 'Some of this article's listed sources may not be reliable. Please help improve this article by looking for better, more reliable sources. Unreliable citations may be challenged and removed. (December 2023)'
I will be able to learn how a seasoned Wikipedia creator would be able to handle the issues above while I learn from the edits, I understand this may take a long time to undertake so no time pressure. Deceptecon (talk) 00:18, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Most of my edit have been on pages related to ancient Egypt because I am very knowledgeable on that subject in find it quite interesting but I know little about ancient north Africa outside of Egypt so I don't currently don't have much I can provide to these topics outside of copy editing but these subjects do seem fascinating, particularly how the religion of this area blended Phonetician, Greek, Egyptian, and ancient Berber traditions into one is quite interesting. PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 02:48, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I completely understand, I have noticed from your edits and your work that you are certainly very knowledgeable on many topics of ancient Egypt and I really like that a lot, that is why I would really like it if you are able to work on Gurzil page by maybe adding an infobox or something similar using your style. and Maybe also Massylii page, I think even if you used copy editing it wouldn't be an issue seeing the current state of these pages.
Thank you so much. I hope you have a nice day Deceptecon (talk) 14:01, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Karnak King List

[edit]

Good edit changing "pharaoh" to "ruler". Pharaoh is a misnormer and only used by the end of 21st dyn (Iron Age IB) when the kings are weaker and the institution of Pr-aa (Great House, Palace) provides the name. It was never used in the Bronze Age for a king. Generally, they were "Great Kings" (i.e Emperor ruling over vassal kings) or "Kings" (SIP, lesser kings, petty kings), and when they argued about kingship there was heka and just "man of GN". Ruler is neutral and good. Have a nice weekend Raven rs (talk) 01:06, 14 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

to be honest I did not charge it to rulers because pharaoh is a misnomer (even though it kind of is), it still is used to refer to all Egyptian kings even by scholars so I have no problem with its use in most circumstances, I changed it because the Karnak kings list contains Intef the Elder and most likely Mentuhotep I who where both not actually kings PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 21:05, 14 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Your list of pharaohs and rulers without wiki pages

[edit]

Hi @PharaohCrab I just want to congratulate you on making (or planning to make) all those ancient Egypt and Kush pages, I’m obsessed with ancient history and I’ve seen many rulers (couple Assyrian ones and Ethiopian ones) don’t have Wikipedia pages, among other smaller states. I would like to help in any way I can if I have the time. Wishing you the best of luck, have a great day. The Grenadian Historian (Aka. Mwen Sé Kéyòl Translator-a) (talk) 14:33, 14 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really have the motivation to create the pages for many of these pharaohs at least at the moment and I'm not convinced they all need an article anyway given that many are known from a single artifact or a line in the Turin King List and half of them don't even have complete names. the only one I 100% think needs an article is Ity so when I do eventually get around to creating some of those pages expect that to be the first. PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 21:20, 14 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Well no worries, I’m sure in the coming decades more will be found regarding some more forgotten pharaohs. I was surprised to discover that there wasn’t an article on the Kingdom of Yam, a powerful Nubian polity possibly near Khartoum or Old Dongola. So I created that article, which was my first ancient history article on Wikipedia, (and I plan to do more but the “to do list” keeps mounting up 😅) The Grenadian Historian (Aka. Mwen Sé Kéyòl Translator-a) (talk) 08:42, 15 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Also @PharaohCrab I love the redesign of the list of pharaohs, that colour coding at the start is divine and the whole list reads better than the last one I remember. Well done for that and I hope we can collaborate for the great good of ancient history in the future The Grenadian Historian (Aka. Template use

[edit]

Hey, thank you so much for chiming in to help with correcting articles and improving the Template:Libyco-Berber religion because I really like your touches, I was hoping that you would be able to add the template to additional articles where you see the template fits.

I am very optimistic about your edits and I think you are one of the few who could dig so deep to find articles worth using the template on.

I am also hoping if you could help improve the Gurzil article, maybe you could add a deity infobox template to it or something.

I look very kindly on your edits, and thank you very much for encouraging me to make more constructive edits. Deceptecon (talk) 00:22, 27 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I have found a few pages missing the template which I have now added. It may also be a good idea to added it to some of the pages in these three categories (Category:Guanche deities, Category:Guanche goddesses, and Category:Guanche gods) but many of these pages are tiny stubs without enough room for a template and should be expanded first. alternatively perhaps these pages should have their own Guanche mythology template created because their mythology was quite distinct from the religion of other Berber peoples. We need a new infobox

[edit]

I've started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mythology#Infobox for legendary characters. We need an infobox more appropriate for legendary characters than "deity" or "character", which is designed for fictional characters. --Nicknack009 (talk) 17:37, 10 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me, I mostly work with Egyptian mythology where basically every figures is a deity of some sort so this wont be that useful for me but I can see how it could be useful for other mythologies. PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 17:45, 10 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

List of countries by system of government

[edit]

Hello, I noticed that recently you removed (in revision https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_countries_by_system_of_government&oldid=1347560542) "Guinea" as a 'duplicate entry', possibly confusing that country with similarly-named but different country "Guinea-Bissau". Please consider undoing that change / restoring "Guinea" to the List of countries by system of government page, thanks AliveinFrance (talk) 12:51, 13 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I did not confuse Guinea and Guinea-Bissau, they were duplicate entries as both country are currently ruled by a military junta and were in that section but also in the section for the systems they had before the coup meaning both were in the list twice. PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 12:55, 13 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
upon further examination turned out Guinea (but not Guinea-Bissau) was not duplicated, apparently last year Guinea held a fraudulent election legitimizing the rule of Mamady Doumbouya so it is no longer technically a military junta and it was removed from that section which I did not notice. PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 13:07, 13 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

If we don't include a full transcription of the names on the map, we'll need to list them under the map, which will take more room and require readers to go back and forth.

Anyway, the full transcription has been there for a year and so is consensus by this point. — kwami (talk) 04:46, 9 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see how they could possibly aid in pronunciation. it certainly didn't help me and you cannot just expect readers to know what diacritics mean pronunciation wise, and even if they did you don't need a pronunciation guide no other list like this contains one. the far more likely scenario is a reader will look at the map and assume that the official names of these subdivisions may even be confused that they aren't used anywhere else. PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 13:39, 9 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
If we wanted the official names we'd write them in Cyrillic: only Cyrillic is official.
Even native Russian speakers need stress marked for words they don't know.
If people are confused by Russian pronunciation or transcription, they can look it up.
Are you telling me you know how to pronounce unknown Russian words when the stress is not given, but can't figure it out when it is given? — kwami (talk) 13:48, 9 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
no I'm not telling you that, I was saying I did not know how to pronounce them and diacritics did not help at all because I had no idea what they are supposed to represent. the diacritic confused me quite a bit when I first saw them which was the main reason I removed them and I cannot have been be alone in this.
