FAQ

Q: What are your targets made of?

A: Any of the shooting surfaces of our AR500 targets are going to be made from the industry standard AR500 (Abrasive Resistant) steel that many shooters have come to expect.  That means anything from the Octagong to the mini bomb is AR500. If we have something other than AR500 as part of the target, we will let you know specifically about it. No hidden factors and no surprises when you order.

Q: What does 500 mean in the name

A: The 500 in AR500 stands for the Brinell hardness. Our steel comes to us selected by hand, nothing under 500 ever makes it to our shop. Typically, we see a range of 515-540. Anything higher than that can cause the metal to be too brittle and crack (due to the increased carbon content). Don’t be tricked by those claiming a lower rating steel perfectly acceptable, it can be dangerous and lead to a more rapid degradation of the target. Rest assured that every target we make is graded before it leaves the facility.

Q: Where are you targets made?

A: All our AR500 targets from our IPSC Toros, OctaGongs or to our dueling tree kits and reactive targets are made here in Arizona. Each target is hand crafted and you can be sure we will only send you something that passes out extensive quality check. We strive to provide a targets that can take 10’s of thousands of rounds.

Q: How close can I shoot the?

A: That’s really going to depend on several factors. However a general rule to follow is 10 yards for pistol calibers (9MM, .40 S&W and .45 ACP etc…). As for rifle rounds we suggest for .223 REM, .308 WIN that the targets are at a minimum of 75 yards. With larger and faster moving calibers, such as 22-250, 30-06, 300 WIN Mag, .338 Lapua etc… we suggest a minimum of 120-150 yards. This is primarily due to the speed and size/mass of the bullet.  However, in our torture testing we have shot the targets much closer without issue.

Q: How do you cut your targets?

A: Our background is CNC manufacturing, so we rely on an industry cutting method that utilizes this cost effective and completely safe method of plasma cutting. Our targets are cut on a state of the art, water quenching plasma table.

We can literally pick up the Octagong, ISPC Torso or reactive targets and process it as soon as it’s cut because of this method. After that the targets go through a tempering process that cleans and deburrs them at the same time.

Q: Do you take special requests?

A: We attempt to meet the needs of all our customers for AR500 targets. If it’s something like cutting an OctaGong larger or changing the layout a little on a torso, we will do our best to accommodate your request. We will also take on special projects and requests with the customers either providing a DXF file, a drawing, picture to scale or something to get us going. If you have a unique idea and just want to get an idea of cost, shoot us an email through our contact us page.

Q: Will you copy the design of ABC target manufacturer cheaper for me?

A: While some target designs are generic, we will not directly copy or reproduce targets that are unique to a particular manufacturer. We know there are many companies that will do such a thing, even some right here in AZ, but Shooters Element will not be party to such unethical activities. Please feel free to bring your special projects to us and we will do our best to make them a reality without copying someone else’s design.

We take pride in our work and hope you will respect that.

Q: Why don’t you take paypal?

A: Simply put, they are expensive to deal with and they have clearly stated they do not want business from those of us who support the 2nd amendment. Shooters Element has chosen to do business with industry partners that support our rights and back us 100%. If you have the option, we strongly suggest that you limit paypal activity as much as possible. For this reason we do not engage in Paypal transactions when other options are available.

Q: What are you shipping times?

A: Our shipping times can vary from 2 days to 2 weeks depending on stock levels and availability. If for some reason an item that you purchased is not in stock and we have no ETA for that item, we will contact you to resolve the issue. However, generally speaking if it’s in stock we ship ASAP.

Customer orders and assemblies are subject to longer shipping times if not in stock. If you are concerned we ask you to contact us and we will do our best to give you accurate shipping dates for AR500 targets you have questions about.

Q: Do you offer discounts to Military and First responders?

A: Absolutely. Please contact us for discount info. We thank our Vets and first responders for their service and would like to show that appreciation in a tangible way by offering discounts on all our AR500 targets, reactive targets and target stands.

Q: Do you have dealer or training pricing?

A: Yes we do. Shooters Element has 2 programs to offer, one is a traditional dealer program that has very attractive margins and low minimum orders. Please contact us for more details by visiting this link.

Our other program is for those in the industry that offer firearms training and would like to incorporate the many benefits of steel in their classes. Discounts usually run more than 35% off retail and there are few requirements to fulfill for this discount.  Please contact us for more details and to take advantage of this great opportunity.

Q: Will you ship outside the US?

A: At this time we are not setup to ship internationally. However, we never like to turn a customer down. Please contact us with your questions and we will do our best to address them.
