I’ll be there to speak with health leaders about the our recent work on Health of Nations both at Foreign Policy Global Health Forum on Monday and at Devex Impact House on Wednesday. More broadly, MHI will be engaging and convening important conversations on health investment, including how scaling proven interventions could add healthier life years and economic return, the promise of mental health task sharing to address access gaps, how to unlock brain capital globally, enhancing care delivery for women, spurring further momentum to address metabolic health, strengthening digital health systems, and advancing health in cities. Suryanka Jatain أضاف إعجابًا إلى ذلكSuryanka Jatain أضاف إعجابًا إلى ذلكHealth is deeply personal. It shapes how long we live, how well we live, how able we are to participate in communities and activities that help us flourish; but good health is also a profound economic lever. We quantify this opportunity in our new research from the McKinsey Health Institute "The Health of Nations": https://lnkd.in/dTpvhJTc. Drawing on analysis across more than 200 countries, the results are striking: better health could add 9 healthy years to life and deliver $12.5 trillion in global economic gains by 2050. For years, health has too often been treated primarily as a cost, something to manage under short-term fiscal pressure. That framing misses what the evidence actually shows. When health improves, people stay active longer, participate more fully in the workforce, and contribute more consistently over time. Thanks to my co-authors Brad Herbig, Matt Wilson, and Pooja Kumar. #InvestInHealth

Suryanka Jatain أضاف إعجابًا إلى ذلكSuryanka Jatain أضاف إعجابًا إلى ذلكWhen countries invest in people’s health, they invest in their capacity to grow and thrive. It was energising to be at the AmCham Estonia Health Forum last week, sharing insights from our McKinsey Health Institute work - “Prioritizing Health, implications for Estonia” - and then joining a thoughtful panel discussion on how better health can drive stronger economies. In Estonia, life expectancy has reached nearly 79 years but people spend around 10 years in poor health. Our research focuses on scaling proven, cost-effective interventions with many focused on prevention and pro-active care. By 2050, Estonia could: • Reduce disease burden by 28%, and add up to 6 years of healthy life per person • Unlock up to €3 billion in annual economic value, around 5% of GDP Every euro invested in improving health could return five euros in economic benefit for Estonia - a powerful reminder that better health delivers returns far beyond the healthcare system itself. What stood out in the discussion was the shared desire and ambition of Estonian leaders to treat healthcare as an investment and not a cost. Thank you to my fellow panellists – Dr. Karmen Joller, Ahti Kuningas, Karl Henrik Peterson, Karla Hernandez-Villafuerte, PhD - for such an engaging conversation on how better health can power human and economic progress. In Five yrs time .. the mag 7 tech giants will have a valuation of maybe 10 trillion $ EACH..So what happens here in the GCC to market Caps of listed AI Companies ??? The Great AI Market Disparity: Why 1% of a US Tech Giant is a Game Changer for the GCC The numbers sound abstract, but they tell a powerful story about the global AI landscape. On one hand, you have the "Magnificent Seven" US tech companies, with a hypothetical individual market cap of $10 trillion each in five years, driven by global reach and a massive, diverse user base. On the other, the GCC's AI market is still in its emergent phase, largely shaped by strategic government initiatives rather than a deep bench of publicly listed tech giants. The total market value of the few "pure-play" AI companies listed here is likely under $10 billion. This is where the math gets interesting. Our discussion revealed that there is no "Arabic Meta" equivalent. But even if there were, its valuation would be a tiny fraction of a $10 trillion Meta. The key takeaway? Even a seemingly small percentage—just 1%—of a US tech behemoth's valuation is an astonishing $100 billion. That sum isn't "small change" here; it's a nation-building amount that is many times larger than the market cap of most companies on the GCC exchanges. This massive scale difference highlights the unique paths the US and GCC are taking in the AI race: one driven by market-dominating corporations, the other by strategic, state-backed vision. The Scalling Law at work ..will get higher valuations .. Take risk and get used feeling miserable and uncomfortable and scared !! Live is short xxx. Go for it !!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟳 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗧 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 Shouvik Das Editor - Mint hosted a great debate between me and Rajiv Gupta MD and Senior Partner – Boston Consulting Group (BCG) We didn’t just discuss trends; we debated the survival of the industry. Here are the 7 flashpoints: 𝟭. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 • The "rising tide lifts all boats" era is dead. • The Debate: we are entering a binary "50/50 game" where half the industry thrives on AI and the other half simply dies. 𝟮. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟱% 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗽 • Are we too comfortable with the crumbs? • While India dominates IT services, that is only $1.6T of the $10T global tech pie, and we are ignoring the other 85%. 𝟯. 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝗺 • Stop saying Service companies can't innovate. • I certainly slam the "classist" view that only Silicon Valley product companies are innovators while service providers are merely doing "wage arbitrage". 𝟰. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 "𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗽" • Labor arbitrage has not been a valid business strategy for a few years now • The new competitive advantage is "Intelligence Arbitrage"—using cumulative execution data to be smarter, not just cheaper. 𝟱. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿" 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘅 • We have the most AI talent, so where is our GPT? • Despite India having 720,000 AI-certified professionals (more than the US or China), we missed the boat on the fundamental PhD research that defined the GenAI era, but the runway is still long. 𝟲. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥&𝗗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 • Is our "innovation" actually just process improvement? • While one can defend "sandbox experiments," spending 2-3% of revenue on R&D will never beat global giants spending 15% on fundamental science. 𝟳. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁 • Will India ever actually become a Product Nation? • 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 !! #India’s ability to scale #AI will hinge less on models and more on infrastructure, data quality and enterprise readiness, industry leaders said at Davos. Sylvain Duranton of BCG X called infrastructure “super-critical”, while Sify Technologies Limited.’s Raju Vegesna urged India to prioritise use cases over costly foundation models, arguing that applied #AI in areas like #Aadhaar and healthcare delivers clearer, mission-critical value. Agilitas x Virat Kohli partnership is one of the masterstroke deals I have seen in recent times. Virat invests 40 CR in Agilitas for a 1.94% stake, putting Agilitas’s valuation around 2000 CR. 📈 In turn, Agilitas acquires one8world, making Virat a co-founder and shareholder. They now get two very important growth levers: ⬇️ 1. A powerful manufacturing (via Mochiko Shoes - a 600 CR+ footwear brand that Agilitas acquired in 2008 ), 2. India’s biggest athlete — exclusively aligned. Easily becomes a 4000 CR revenue brand in the next 5 years. Footwear + retail scale requires capital — but this partnership compresses customer acquisition, product cycles, and brand-building like few others. Even Virat said in his podcast with Abhishek Ganguly, the co-founder of Agilitas that, “I didn’t want a brand deal… I wanted to build something that outlives me.” And Abhishek said something even beautiful - “An ambition to build from India but be globally relevant.” This isn’t marketing. This is legacy building with shared skin in the game. And that is how startups work - shared ambition with one goal (to make the company big) and food (read stake) in the table for everyone! A company that can be built in the long term with culture, capital, and conviction aligned. This might be the first time in India, where an athlete joins hands with a sport company to re-imagine and build the sport ecosystem of India - truly revolutionalising the game with a clear vision. 🙌

India’s healthcare sector is witnessing a shift in investor conviction, with ₹10,000 crore in deal activity recorded in Q2 FY26. This signifies a transition towards platforms that combine clinical depth with technology-enabled delivery, moving the industry into a more structured, institutionalised asset class. What is particularly encouraging is the performance of the diagnostics segment, which is moving up the value chain through AI-led testing and genomics. With revenue growth hitting 22% and EBITDA margins reaching 35%, the sector is proving its resilience. Crucially, much of this volume is being driven by Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities, proving that quality healthcare is finally decentralising and reaching the heart of the country. At IAN Group, we have always believed that the intersection of technology and essential services is where long-term value is created. India is building a scalable, technology-first healthcare model that will serve as a global benchmark. The future is being built today through rigorous capital deployment and commitment to clinical excellence. The next global CTO won't be in Silicon Valley. We are witnessing a massive geopolitical shift in the AI landscape. The "IMEC" corridor (India-Middle East) isn't just a trade route - it's the new backbone of digital infrastructure. The Middle East brings the Capital and Energy. India brings the Scale and Engineering. This changes who we hire. We are moving away from the "Valley Expat" model toward what I call the "Corridor Leader." Here is why the best Boards are changing their hiring criteria for 2026. (Swipe through the deck ➡️). #FutureProofing #AI #MiddleEast #India #Leadership #TheBoardroomBlend

India’s governance framework is at an inflection point and needs structural change to move from control to genuinely citizen‑centric, performance‑driven governance. The focus now has to shift from making more laws to building institutions that are transparent, accountable and capable of delivering at scale. Why change is needed ? - Persistent issues like corruption, slow justice, weak decentralisation, and inequality continue to erode trust in institutions despite many schemes and laws. - Democratic backsliding concerns and freedom ratings show that formal electoral processes are not enough without stronger rule of law and institutional checks. Key directions for reform - From intent to execution:In 2025 reforms underscored that India’s constraint is no longer policy design but system performance; governance design must ensure predictable, timely implementation. - From centralisation to empowered local bodies:Stronger panchayat, municipal and urban governance, with real fiscal and functional autonomy, is essential for “last‑mile” service delivery. Administrative and bureaucratic reforms - Building an agile, performance‑linked civil service with modern training, data use, and clear accountability can reduce red tape and improve citizen experiences. - Deepening e‑governance (e‑Office, real‑time monitoring, paperless services) can cut discretion and leakages while making the state more responsive and measurable. Ethical, transparent and rule‑based governance - Stronger transparency (RTI, social audits, public dashboards) and tighter conflict‑of‑interest norms for politicians and businesses are needed to tackle the nexus that distorts policy priorities. - Independent, credible regulators and faster, technology‑enabled courts (building on new criminal and procedural laws) are crucial to protect rights and enforce contracts. Citizen‑centric and future‑ready state - Governance has to move towards co‑creation with citizens through consultations, digital feedback platforms, and participatory local planning. - In a volatile global economy, India’s competitiveness will increasingly depend on institutions that act quickly without arbitrariness, making governance reform a continuous, not episodic, project. Insights for implementation of change in governance framework for effective citizen centric development. 🧭 If one of the reasons for the leadership change was “missing AI opportunities,” that would be disappointing. Venture has always been about taking calculated risks, not chasing every trend. Even the best firms will pass on some winners; the real test is whether they stay disciplined enough to find the ones that fit their conviction. Sequoia’s strength has always been long-term focus and pattern recognition through cycles. The danger is not missing a single AI deal, it is losing the ability to think independently amid the noise. https://lnkd.in/eVKiCEtD #VentureCapital #Leadership #AI #Governance #Startups #SequoiaCapital

GCCs & AI: Balancing High Impact with High Responsibility There’s no denying it, AI is supercharging GCCs across India, especially in Hyderabad and other Metros in India: --> BCG reports that only 8% of GCCs are truly innovation-led but those that embed AI across workflows are leading the pack. --> ISG research shows 50% of enterprises plan to expand AI/data analytics talent within their GCCs this year with per-employee AI investments averaging $1,400 Where AI Adds Strategic Value in GCCs ?? Leading centers are deploying AI across: 1. Intelligent Automation: e.g., AI agents that elevate operational efficiency and reduce error. 2. Insight Generation: NLP and ML tools that unlock hidden trends and accelerate decision-making. 3. Talent Enablement: AI-powered learning, analytics, and personalized productivity tools that support continuous reskilling . MIT research stresses that AI isn’t here to replace, but to complement human strengths especially critical thinking, judgment, and ethical nuance . But There’s a Tipping Point --> AI is powerful, but risks emerge when it’s overused: MIT warns against over-automation: AI lacks bias-handling, moral judgment, and works poorly in small-dataset scenarios . --> Ethical and fairness risks demand governance frameworks, transparent data privacy, and tech-usage policies . --> Cognitive dependency can erode critical thinking : a “helpful crutch” becomes apparent in MIT Media Lab findings So What’s the Leadership Play here? 1. Intentionally embed AI where it adds decisive value and not deploy it everywhere. 2. Govern thoughtfully, track real-world impact, and build caution into AI rollout. 3. Upskill human talent in judgment, design, ethics, and strategic thinking. 4. Lead from a hybrid seat where tech meets empathy, automation meets judgment, and AI meets accountability. As a returning global leader, this is where I want to contribute: helping GCCs in Hyderabad become AI-empowered yet humane, innovative yet ethical, and strategically aware yet operationally excellent. What challenges or successes have you seen with AI in your GCCs? 3/5 new e-comm shoppers since 2020 are coming from Tier 3 cities and smaller. The northeast, one of India's most remote regions, has 1.2x higher e-retail penetration than the rest of the country. Why I think that is - > There’s an infra paradox of retail. Metro cities spent decades building physical retail infrastructure - malls, brand stores, distribution networks. Tier-3 India had no such luxury. Limited brand presence, poor last-mile connectivity, and fragmented retail meant digital ecomm was salvation. When you're in a small city and the nearest branded store is 200km away, a 2 day delivery seems miraculous. > Interestingly, remote areas leapfrogged directly to mobile-first shopping behaviors. They're more comfortable with: - Return policies (physical returns were never a comfy option) - Reviews and social proof (less local reccos of branded products) - Video commerce (seeing products they couldn't touch in stores) > The supply side is equally interesting. 60% of new sellers since 2021 are from Tier-2 cities and smaller. A handicraft maker in Manipur or a spice vendor in rural Karnataka can now reach customers in Mumbai and Delhi without ever setting foot in these cities. The same digital infra that brought them access as consumers is enabling them as entrepreneurs. Ironic how most strategies still treat Tier-3 as an expansion play and not their core business.

UAE Just Launched Stargate with significant backing from the US. India Is 'Building It' mostly on its own. But will it be enough? This week, the UAE unveiled Stargate UAE - a 1-gigawatt AI compute cluster backed by OpenAI, G42, Oracle, NVIDIA, and others. It’s the largest AI infrastructure ever built outside the US, with a broader 5 GW AI campus planned across 10 square miles in Abu Dhabi. It’s a bold geopolitical and technological move: -Nation-scale AI infrastructure -Powered by nuclear, solar & gas -Phase 1 (200 MW) live by 2026 This isn’t just about compute. It’s about signaling intent: UAE is positioning itself as a sovereign AI superpower. So, where does that leave India? Here’s the good news: -India has responded with the IndiaAI Mission - a ₹10,372 crore (~$1.25B) investment to build sovereign AI capacity, including: -A public-private compute platform with 18,000+ GPUs -Indigenous LLMs led by startups like Sarvam AI -Multilingual, culturally rooted foundation models like BharatGen -An emphasis on open-source, public-good AI This marks a shift from policy ambition to platform execution. India is finally building the compute backbone and language intelligence to match its talent pool. But here’s the caution: While the UAE is fast-tracking deployment by 2026, India is still in the construction phase. Compute, infrastructure readiness, and execution speed will determine who pulls ahead. The next 2-3 years will define India’s AI destiny. Will we stay a talent exporter? Or lead as a sovereign AI force? The race is truly ON!!! But India seems to be already racing against time and evolving geopolitical dynamics to stay relevant! #IndiaAI #StargateUAE #OpenAI #SarvamAI #BharatGen #ArtificialIntelligence #DigitalInfrastructure #TechPolicy #NationalStrategy #AnalyticsIndiaMagazine
