Horrific treatment of Maria, a mother, immigrant entrepreneur & her *daughter* who filmed Earlier this week, Maria was arrested for selling mangoes & kiwis to customers she's served for 10+ yrs Shame on our city for choosing cruelty, instead of supporting hardworking mothers

#Brooklyn, COVID is still here. With the recent surge in cases, we recommend NYers mask up, especially in crowded public places. In light of these increases, I urge @NYCMayor to consider reinstating the indoor mask mandate to #stopthespread and keep all of us safe!

🧵 I am so proud to be named Chair of the Committee on Aging! For so many of us, this work is deeply personal. My journey into public service started when I became the caregiver for my mother, who lived with #Alzheimers disease until her passing last April.

My office just learned about the removal of the Willoughby Ave Open Street. We are reaching out to the @NYCMayorsOffice and @NYC_DOT to learn more about what happened and how we can remedy the situation.

Stalling the implementation of congestion pricing is a mistake—one that defers a promise to fund necessary upgrades to vital public infrastructure and imperils our ability to meet our climate resiliency goals. We’ve worked hard to reach this moment. We shouldn’t throw it away.

As a member of the NYC Council’s LGBTQ Caucus, I am disappointed with a number of @NYCMayor’s appointments. New Yorkers went to the polls in Nov to elect a government among the most diverse in history. The people have spoken: inclusion, dignity, & justice are clear shared values.

Today, I was proud to have @NYCMayor sign my first bill into law, which will ensure that birthing folks have access to information about doula care. For Black women, that’s life-saving information. And we know that when Black folks thrive, everyone thrives.

I stopped by Willoughby #OpenStreets this morning & saw lots of folks walking/running/biking & so many kids heading to school safely. Also spoke with local crossing guard, Ms. Reyes, who told me how the barricades help keep kids safe. So glad to see Willoughby back in action!

A forum where Vision Zero will be criticized, hours after the death of a seven-year-old in Ft. Greene, sends the wrong message to Brooklyn.

We cannot, in good conscience, attend tonight’s Open Streets Community Conversation.

After speaking with @ydanis, @NYC_DOT is putting the barricades back out on Willoughby Ave. Thank you for considering the safety of those who use Open Streets regularly—especially the students, families & crossing guards at PS 20.

Folks have been sharing this @nytimes story that isn’t news to many of us: the affordability crisis in #NYC is driving Black families out. District 35 alone has lost 20% of its Black pop. in the last decade. Here are 9 recs for NY right now, focused on our housing crisis: 🧵1/
The number of Black residents in New York City has decreased over the past decade. Black children in particular are disappearing from the city, and many families point to one reason: Raising children in NYC has become too expensive. nyti.ms/3RhdiaF

Statement From the @NYCCouncil LGBTQIA+ Caucus: We unequivocally condemn the recent bigoted attacks against members of our Caucus and Council allies. We will not be intimidated. This only strengthens our resolve to continue fighting for the just future we know is possible.
