la acera tells of her encounter with the “potty cop” at the McDonald’s in Adams Morgan, in the post, Exercising My Right to Pee.
A pet lover, sans pet, writes of her adventures in and out of the Dupont Dog Park. This Chameleon’s Life. Excerpt: The heavy black gate opens and slams shut beside me, shuttling in several newcomers who are warmly greeted by the cast of lucky characters to whom this park belongs. I’m acutely aware of my absurdity but can’t bring myself to go in. If this were a therapy session, I would hereby declare (after several long gulps), that I’m a … Pet-a-phile.
A former DC residents returns to some neighborhoods he hasn’t seen in a decade and writes (in a listserv post on Ibo-talk) about the change. Excerpt: What freaks me out more than the diversity of D.C., coming from Kansas City, are all the well-off young people. I just wonder if they understand that they are living in a bubble surrounded by a country that doesn’t enjoy their standard of living. The post: Gentrification Shock.
Soup is Not A Finger Food writes: This morning, something happened to me that I haven’t experienced in my 20 years in DC. As I was standing on my ascending escalator step, trying to get out of Dupont Circle, the escalator just stopped.
The Black Squirrel is serving more than beer. It’s writing a blog with a point of view. In Ticket Me This, it writes: Instead of implementing a bag tax, the city should have put the parking control officers on the Anacostia River. Given their dedication, they would have the river cleaned up in short order. Or they would fine it.
A note:
Contributions are welcome for the art that runs above the daily post. It can be a photograph of DC area scene, a sketch, art, or representation; creativity rules. The goal this blog is to help discover writing that tells us something about the life and times of this wonderful place. This view allows for a variety of expression. If you submit something, it is generally a signature of the blog to add the “DCBlogs,” to the work (in a typeface of your choosing) or allow us to add it. A link and credit will run under it. (Note: Generally, we avoid running photos where people can be easily identified.) If you interested, just write: dcblogs@gmail.com
