Left in Alabama

Left in Alabama The Alabama Democratic Executive Committee had quite a meeting yesterday. Here's the highlights reel. You have see it to believe it....

BERJAYA
Vice Chair Nancy Worley presided over the Alabama State Democratic Executive Committee Meeting yesterday. The room was crowded and hot, even though the air conditioning worked at this venue. Worley was presiding because Chairman Joe Turnham was out of town working with an important client.

Left in Alabama Bobby Bright won't commit to voting for Pelosi as speaker because "she might get sick and die." WTF is that about?

BERJAYA
Bobby Bright didn't want to give a straight answer to a question about whether he would vote for Nancy Pelosi again as Speaker of the House.

Left in Alabama Local farms: if your food poisons your neighbors, a lawsuit is the least of your problems!

BERJAYA
Democratic candidate for Alabama Senate District 13, Greg Varner, is concerned about both the future of family farms and the safety of the food supply. Unlike some observors, he sees a link between the two. We have to wrest the country's food supply out of the hands of agribusiness where a handful...

Left in Alabama GREAT, informative discussion thread on this post!

Schools superintendent Joe Morton says the low score (212 out of 500 points) was partly the result of not having charter schools and not having support of the teachers' union. AEA executive secretary Paul Hubbert disputes that, saying that charter schools were only worth 40 points in the scoring.

well gee. charter schools for 40 points. They don't have to actually DO anything -just be there. This stuff makes me a little nuts. And as usual, let's blame the AEA! NOT the people who are laying them off in droves, not the bureaucrats wh...o make 3 times a teacher's salary mainly to snarl up anything productive with a bunch of red tape and paperwork. Nope, it's always those TEACHERS who get the blame. Not the voters who would rather be boiled in oil than pay more taxes. And can you blame them? Lots of people in Alabama are having enough trouble just keeping their kids FED :(See More

Left in Alabama The SDEC meets today at 3pm in Montgomery. Will the give the AFDW a seat at the officer's table this time?

BERJAYA
There's been a lot of buzz about the last Alabama State Democratic Executive Committee meeting. There were a number of by-laws changes that caused comment, but the big story was the failure to vote on a proposal that would have given the Alabama Federation of Democratic Women (AFDW) an officer posi...

Left in Alabama Part 18 (!) in Dr. Abston's excellent discussion of health care reform.

Today I'll talk about section 3003, addresses "improvements to the physician feedback system". Since I see only children in my practice, I've never gotten feedback from Medicare, only Alabama Medicaid and private insurers-- so I can't tell you what Medicare's feedba...ck looks like now. I would i...

Civic responsibility motivated Miranda Joseph to run for State Auditor. She is running an innovative campaign long on web videos like Miranda's Rights (watch it below the fold) and local media. The Enterprise newspaper has published a piece about this hometown girl trying to do well by doing good.

Left in Alabama Lowell Barron things Alabamaians are satisfied with low taxes & substandard services. This op-ed begs to differ.

David Simpson responds to Sen. Lowell Barron's (D, SD-08) assertion that Alabamians are satisfied with low services as long as we have low taxes ... and hits it out of the park.

How do you spell "lazy?" According to Judge Mac Parsons, it's "P A R K E R." Parsons, Democratic candidate for Alabama Supreme Court, Place 3, criticized his incumbent opponent for laziness on the court. Presumably, Parsons meant that Parker is both physically and intellectually lazy:

Left in Alabama Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Herding Old Cats has found common ground with Ron Paul on 2 issues.

It is repeatedly said that 64% of the people, after listening to the political demagogues, don’t want the mosque to be built. What would we do if 75% of the people insist that no more Catholic churches be built in New York City? The point being is that majorities can become oppressors of minorit...
