All the tips you need!

From my posh presidential estate, I catch wind of a peaceful protestor questioning my leadership acumen. Not for long, though -- just one word to my loyal law enforcement officials and the sandwich-board-toting plebe gets a good five years of prison food and manual labor. The resulting rebels who decide to start kidnapping tourists suddenly and quietly "disappear" themselves. And as for all those commoners who are campaigning for a church? Fat chance: I've marked the most pious of the bunch for very public deaths. I am your god now, fair citizens.
It's anyone's guess as to what these Orwellian tendencies say about me as a person, but the point is, Tropico 3 (the latest surprise entry in the cult-classic banana-republic-management-sim series) certainly gives you some creative ways to handle the business of ruling. Read More »
Ever been sitting on a plane and suddenly been overcome by the desire to steal a cop car and plow into a crowd of pedestrians before leaping out and firebombing a rival gang's headquarters? Hey, join the club and forget your fear of long, murder-free flights, my fellow freakshows! Rockstar has just the thing to keep you sane on those all-too-frequent jaunts to shock therapy: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. With this portable PSP title to assuage your inner miscreant, you'll never again have to make a hasty exit from an awkward social situation so that you can "return some videotapes."
For those of you wondering, yes -- Chinatown Wars on PSP is effectively identical to the Nintendo DS title of the same name that was released earlier this year. The port suffers from some control issues, however, mostly due to the lack of a stylus/touch-screen. Read More »
The serial killer Jigsaw from the "Saw" movies loathes people who waste their lives, and I'm half-expecting him to come after me for spending as much time as I did with the Saw videogame. I wanted to believe that Saw might turn out alright after being purchased and "guided" by publisher Konami. Unfortunately, I enjoyed very little of it; for every cool puzzle -- which were few and far between -- I endured hours of clunky and repetitive game design that tested my patience and failed to meet my relatively low expectations. Though Borderlands impressed me when I saw it in the past, I never thought I'd enjoy it as much as I did when I finally got to play through the whole thing. It started off a little slow -- the first five levels or so were essentially a lengthy tutorial -- but it quickly became addictive, tapping into the same part of my psyche that gets looped into quest after quest in an MMORPG. But though I had a great time playing through Borderlands, that MMO-loving part of me felt a little disappointed about the relatively basic RPG elements involved in character customization. But despite the game's failure to push my min-maxing tendencies to their fullest, it stands as a fantastic achievement -- a lengthy, fun game with robust cooperative play, a large, developed world to explore, and a comparatively small amount of inhibitive quirks. A community of gamers is trying to bring attention to a licensed Japanese Wii title in an attempt to bring it stateside (h/t Joystiq). The game, Sukeban Shachou Rena Wii, follows blogging cat Rena as she is initiated into her role as the CEO of Cat Queen Inc. Gameplay looks to be a mix of zany mini-games, but the appeal is obviously in the incredibly cute kitty lead.
The game's almost viral popularity started when the Orange Lounge Radio podcast discovered the game. Read More »
Every gamer worth their salt has done something irrefutably dumb during a game. Chalk it up to the effects of a 10 hour-long marathon session, child-like naivete, or good old-fashioned ignorance, but these mistakes define us as gamers. Just as our parents' generation asked the question, "Where were you when JFK was assassinated?" our generation will pose a similarly important query: Where were you when you discovered you could shoot food in Gauntlet?
Here are some of the stupidest things gamers have done since the dawn of videogames, along with a handy stupidity index rating. Remember, there is no such thing as stupid people, just stupid moments in gaming. Read More »
Kotaku is reporting on a group of invitations sent out by Microsoft this week teasing a "rewards program." According to the email, a select few are invited to join a beta version of the program, in which applicants are lured with vague promises of "cool stuff." Since the Xbox 360 launch way back in 2005, Microsoft has hinted at rewards programs for Gold subscribers, but aside from the occasional Old Spice contest, few have come to reality.

Last week we reported that 2D Boy, the developer behind World of Goo, gave its game the Radiohead name-what-you-pay treatment, and today 2D Boy is sharing data recovered from sales in conjunction with an online survey from its website (h/t Joystiq). The experiment translated into 57,000 copies of World of Goo being sold over the past week, with most of its participants paying around $2 for the game. However, almost 17,000 of those sales went for $.01, and due to PayPal's transaction fees, 2D saw no money from individuals who spent less than 30 cents on the game.
In addition to the sales data, the related survey also mines some interesting information. The three questions asked: how much did you pay, why did you pay that amount, and what amount do you think the game's worth? Read More »
Yesterday's news about Infinity Ward's decision to remove dedicated servers and mod capabilities from the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 spread quickly. Since the story, a petition to "endorse the dedicated servers for CoD:MW2" went up, earning over 10,000 signatures at the time of this post (via Edge Online).
The petition elaborates:
"Get Infinity Ward to review their decision not to allow fully dedicated servers for their forthcoming game release CoD:MW2. Remember that this Call of Duty was made popular by PC Gamers who have supported the series throughout."

To date, there have only ever been 11 videogames that have received the holy grail of Japanese review scores. Famitsu magazine used to be notoriously hard to please, and only ever awarded a perfect 40/40 to truly huge games. That number has now apparently increased to 12 perfect scores according to Kotaku, which is reporting that Sega's Bayonetta stole a whopping 40/40 review. Read More »
How important do you think mana is to the Diablo universe? According to a recent post to Blizzard's official Diablo III Twitter feed, the developer/publisher is toying with the idea of nixing the traditional mana gameplay resource and instead replacing it with class-specific resources.

Nintendo's perennial favorite Wii Play is now officially the best-selling game in the U.S. this decade. The game -- which comes bundled with an extra Wii Remote -- has apparently shifted somewhere in the region of 11.1 million copies so far (h/t VG247).
This means it's a better seller than the likes of Activision Blizzard's Guitar Hero III and Rockstar's monster hit Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Read More »
You've probably forgotten that next February Sega and Rebellion will unleash the new three-way story of Aliens vs. Predator for console and PC. We haven't. Amidst a busy season of shooters like Borderlands and Modern Warfare 2, this new entry into the popular older PC series is looking pretty flippin' slick. Check out the new trailer which shows off gameplay from the perspective of those loveable xenomorph killers. Are you excited yet? Read More »
A new Left 4 Dead mod is out, and while that's not news in its own right, the story surrounding the mod deserves attention. Texas' Alamo Draft House movie theaters are a restaurant/theater hybrid that serve as epicenters for Texan movie buffs. They not only show movies and serve an excellent dish of nachos, but also host quirky events. One such event is this month's "Dismember the Alamo" zombie film fest. One enthusiastic member of the Draft House community, ZapWizard, set out to enrich the experience with his own Left 4 Dead mod, featuring a perfectly recreated Alamo Draft House location. Arcade-style kiosks are set to go up at the event for attendees' enjoyment, but you can check out the trailer or download the mod now from the Dismember the Alamo community site. Read More »
Reacting to the Winnenden school shooting earlier this year, the German advocacy group Aktionsbundnis Amoklauf Winnenden decided to schedule an event where gamers could dispense of their violent videogames, thereby protesting violence in games. With a giant-sized dumpster ready, the group held its event, but as GamePolitics reports, the results were disappointing to say the least. In the video, you glimpse an empty dumpster with a couple of tiny game boxes strewn about its rusty void.
Check after the break for the video of the empty violent-game dumpster. Read More »

The popular bathhouse was subject to a raid on Thursday, revealing decades of explicitly illegal (though mostly consensual) erotic stat-boosting malfeasance. When pressed for comment, local street gang member Slick simply barfed and dropped his money on the sidewalk in disgust.
