 | | | | | EA Mythic Chooses Emergent For Warhammer Print News | Mail News | Category: Game News Found this gem on Gamasutra. Looks like Emergent gets the nod from Mythic
With a forthcoming announcement that developer EA Mythic's (Dark Age of Camelot) forthcoming MMORPG Warhammer Online will be developed using Emergent's Gamebryo Element, we talked with Mythic's CTO Matt Shaw and Emergent CEO Geoffrey Selzer about their mutual relationship, and how each party has helped the other evolve.
Speaking exclusively with Gamasutra about Warhammer Online, which is set for a 2007 PC release, EA Mythic chief technology officer Matt Shaw said, "As we've gone through and produced new games, it wasn't even a question for us to use Gamebryo when we started production on Warhammer. We've had a pretty aggressive schedule with Warhammer - we actually signed the deal at E3 2005, without a line of code or a piece of artwork for it."

 | | | | | Warhammer Vault Exclusive Interview: Sanya Thomas November 2006 Print News | Mail News | Category: Interviews Warhammer Vault sits down with Sanya Thomas, Director of Community Relations for EA Mythic and snags a few questions about Warhammer Online! These questions came directly from our Warhammer General Board Readers, Enjoy!!!
Warhammer Vault: Does Mythic plan (or would they like) to have special events where the Developers take over special NPCs such as Giants and Dragons with great rewards for the participants?
Sanya: Not at this time. In my opinion these events are great fun for the handful of people who are able to participate, not as fun for people who cannot attend due to the timing, and a black hole of anti-fun for people who didnt feel like being stomped by a giant, and wanted to just hunt or quest in the area where the event was taking place. It is possible there will be events on the test server I just dont know yet.

Warhammer Vault Fan Fiction: Book of Shadows Part One: The Night of the Dolls Print News | Mail News | Category: Fan Fiction Stuart gives is Part One: The Night of the Dolls which is the first chapter in his amazing story Book of Shadows
Anyone could be touched by Chaos: wife, mother, child, the trusted blacksmith; even the respected priest could be manipulated by the dark powers. Chaos is so widespread that even the Witchhunter who vows so ardently to purge the land of Chaos could be an unwitting pawn in its nefarious schemes. Their words, their very actions are meaningless for Chaos cannot be purged. It cannot be destroyed or redeemed; it is endless and eternal and unfathomable, and words like ending and redemption are meaningless in contrast to the vast tides of its malevolence.
I can see Chaos. I can spy its lingering touch long after it has departed. I can smell it lurking in the hearts and souls of those who profess to be free of its taint. I can feel it gather on the horizon, and I can feel it lust as it hungers for the living. Some freely give up their essence to Chaos, and some fight it until they die. Yet all who attract the attention of the dark powers are taken, it is merely a matter of time. Once that mote of wicked blackness gains a hold, it will fester, growing until even the most resolute are forever changed by its touch.

Slashdot Warhammer Interview Print News | Mail News | Category: Interviews Slashdot has a nice interview up with members of the Warhammer Team.
What makes WAR special? / Why Is It For Me? by Gerad (86818) and eldavojohn (898314)
On a site like Slashdot, a lot of us are caught up in online RPG games and console wars. I read the overview of your game on your site but--like a lot of people--I'm not sold. What's unique about Warhammer Online, other than the universe that its set in? This could be anything, really: design philosophy, new innovations in game play, new technical accomplishments. It appears to have a lot of 'war' involved in it but is there any social aspects to your online game? Is there diplomacy in Warhammer? Put slightly more bluntly, tell me why I should chose Warhammer Online over World of Warcraft.

 | | | | | Holy Chaos!!! Print News | Mail News | Category: General
Well, ok not really but man GameSpy has a simply amazing write up on The Hordes of Chaos!. Paul Barnett gives a guided tour of the Chaos Army and all its splendid dark goodness.
Last month, we had the rare honor to debut the Empire faction as it's represented in Age of Reckoning. In this grand tradition, we bring you the first details on the Chaos faction, a group that (and this is saying quite a bit) makes the Empire seem docile and peace loving. The Chaos hordes are comprised of men who have willingly bartered their very souls to dark gods in exchange for power and the chance to indulge their deepest desires for carnage. To quote EA Mythic's Paul Barnett, "Chaos is the dark, unsettling stuff. It is the corruption that is prevalent everywhere. It is the worst of what happens to people when they are consumed by power, by greed, by energy, by lies, disruptions and distortions -- by promises of eternal struggle and eternal success."
Mr. Barnett has volunteered to give us a guided tour of the depravities of the Chaos army. What follows are the intricacies of this altogether vile force in his own words. Though it seems hardly appropriate given the subject matter contained herein, Mr. Barnett has asked that we dedicate this article to Callum and Maia, his son and daughter, whom he misses dearly.

Warhammer Vault Featured Fiction: Book of Shadows by Stuart Renton Print News | Mail News | Category: Fan Fiction Amazing piece of Fan Fiction for you today. Stuart Renton gives us the prologue for Book of Shadows. Stuart is an amazing author who has written several books; Darkness Rises, Darkness Rises: Blood Dawn and many others! Click here for a full list of his work.
Book of Shadows Prologue
I live in a twilight world, a life where I am forever waiting, my breath half held as I await the end of all things. I know I must not speak of the darkness, for the world about me is paranoid and driven by fear. My visions would mark me as one touched by evil, I would be branded a heretic in league with evil and burned by those who seek out such things and who are in turn touched by the darkness that they seek to destroy. Heretic they would call me, and the Witchunters would sear my flesh with cleansing flames as they called out words of redemption to send on my soul to their gods of light.
For the longest time I had no names for these creatures, but now as I stand on the verge of manhood, I can at last give utterance to the shadow that has plagued me for so very long. Its name is Chaos - the very manifestation of darkness. It is the thing man most fears, corruption and the twisting of life, the stripping of their will and eroding of their sanity. Chaos is an unfathomable shadow that lingers in a place dangerously close to our hearts and minds and souls. All around us, it is separated from our reality by nothing more than a fragile veil. Its tendrils seep into our reality, twisting those whose minds are weak and sewing seeds of a terrible darkness across the land. Those souls it caresses are blackened beyond words and flesh is twisted into new and terrible forms. None can resist it, for it hungers for the living with a primeval appetite.

 | | | | | Warhammer GenCon SoCal at WHA Print News | Mail News | Category: Player Editorials Garthilk at Warhammer Alliance has a nice Fan Perspective story from his trip to GenCon SoCal. In part one he gives us a great look at the UI and other features of the game. He is working on a video (can't wait to see that bad boy!)
The tavern had been overrun with Goblins, the bartender was still trapped inside and it was my job to get him out. I tossed in a few sticky bombs and went in gun blazing. A quick dive behind the bar and a few grenades finished off the menacing creatures. I had reached the bartender, his rescue was nearly at hand when stopped and told me. Dont worry about me, just save the beer.
With experiances like that, I knew everything was goign to be just fine. Gencon was my first hands on experience with the game and I did my best to keep my enthusiasm to a minimum. The question I posed myself, I started playing the game for the first time, would the game be fun?
