Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare, nonmalignant, hematologic disease that is characterized by intravascular hemolysis, thrombophilia, and bone marrow failure. The estimated occurrence of PNH is approximately 15.9 per 1 million individuals worldwide. It is found more frequently in Asian countries than in Western countries. A study comparing American and Japanese patients with PNH found that in Japanese patients, PNH manifests more as marrow aplasia and with smaller PNH clones in older patients. Conversely, White patients with PNH in Western countries are younger and have the more classic presentation of thrombosis, hemoglobinuria, and infection. PNH affects men and women equally and can occur at any age.

Are you up-to-date on the unmet clinical needs and latest treatment advances in the management of PNH and how these might affect your patients? Test yourself with a short quiz.
