BERJAYA

It’s 2019. You brought home a strange yet familiar 1995 CD-ROM game from the thrift store. You vaguely remember seeing ads for this game, and some kind of controversy, but you never got the chance to play it. Until now.

BERJAYA

  • Delve into a 90's FMV-inspired digital hellscape of dungeons and death with visuals, story and music from the creators of Home Safety Hotline.
  • Survive the horrors with bloodletting solitaire gameplay from the veteran indie team behind Shadowhand and Regency Solitaire.
  • Purchase upgrades from the friendly eye that watches you from the walls.
  • Uncover a variety of game-changing Jokers - some helpful, some malignant.
  • Uninstall the game before it's too late.

Game looks cool and I wanna get it, but why does the main artworks kinda look like Jack Black

Absolutely nailed the 90s cursed CD-ROM aesthetic! The blend of Home Safety Hotline’s creepy FMV atmosphere with the incredibly addictive solitaire loop from the Shadowhand team is a match made in digital hell. The eyeball shop and the malignant Jokers add so much flavor to the runs. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique, retro horror experience!

Fantastic art style and concept, well done and congratulations.

Enjoyed the game but found that it lost itself towards the end, felt that the story really didn't go the way it intended to. Like i said i did enjoy the game for the most part tho, imho if it had been more like the old knightmare game it would have blended better with the 4th wall events too.

Very good woow

Bought on steam, love the game but I did some have some critical feedback. I played on xbox controller from my TV/Steamdeck setup and I wish that control scheme was a bit friendlier. Having the cursor snap to selectable cards would have been really nice cause navigating it like a mouse with a joystick wasn't pleasant, especially since there were no native controls to adjust sensitivity.

Gameplay wise I wish losing had more weight to it? Just having to reset the map with really no consequence to me felt flat against the otherwise super-grim narrative and vibe. I think this would be really neat in a hardmode-ironman playthrough option with limited saves and checkpoints. (I'm already debating a challenge run of no store upgrades to see if it's possible)

My dream update for this game would be to add an Inscryption Act 1 style rogue-like mode with branching paths that add challenges but provided you buffs and upgrades as you traveled deeper into the dungeon.

Overall though fantastic visuals, great OST, super cool vibe and theming. I love a game that can reimagine classic games and put a neat spin on them.

Thanks for your feedback. It's not possible for us to add joypad controls due to the old 2004 engine we are using for this game. Also when we did add them to a solitaire game we made in Unity (Regency Solitaire for Switch) it was a lot of work to do a proper snapping to cards system, with a lot of weird edges cases that took ages to test and fix.)

btw, we just updated the build with a NG+ mode that lets you choose starting level and various other parameters including number of lives (with permadeath when you run out). Also we will soon be adding a hard mode NG+.

Thanks for the reply! Ahhh I hadnt thought of that as a technical limitation. That's awesome about the additional content though! Definitely will be trying that out 👍

this looks great, any chance for a mac build in the future?

Hi, no sorry we have no plans for a Mac build because we are using an 32-bit engine and Apple prevented those from working a few years ago.

gotcha, lame-o 🍏. Best of luck on the game moving forward, looks like an absolute blast!

LOVE THIS ALOT BUT specifically it doesnt really need the 4th wall breaking / backstory stuff, like I just dont care about the haunted video game thing, like actually just this fun take on solitaire with cool visuals is enough to stand on its own... it feels like the whole fake os thing is a lack of confidence in the actual gameplay? maybe it was something that was added late in development?

idk, honestly the ability to tell emily to stop messaging you might fix it for me lmao

There is in fact an option to toggle Emily's messages off if you so choose. Settings > Messages > Disable

I did actually find this probably about an hour after commenting (which rocks, thank you), but I still want to be able to reply and tell her to quit fedposting about illegally downloading video games lmao

I think that initially it was a good idea but as the game goes on it just didnt fit with the game. I found the voice overs annoying and could barely hear them as the game was playing, i would have suggested cut scenes would have been a better choice, also i would have suggested maybe using the setup from knighmare. Good game overall but there where a few things that happened pre release that kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth and at the time i wasnt planning on playing the game.
