Madeleine Sami is a New Zealand actress, director, comedian, and musician.
She is the daughter of Narendra (Naren) Sami, an Indian-Fijian mechanic from Suva, Fiji, and Catherine Southee, a teacher, with Irish ancestry. Madeleine has a daughter with her former husband, singer and songwriter Pip Brown (Ladyhawke).
Madeleine’s maternal grandfather was Paul Vincent Southee (the son of Charles Southee and Kathleen Monica Kelly). Charles was born in Feilding, ManawatÅ«-Whanganui, the son of Henry Alfred Southee, whose parents were from Kent, England; and of Annie Theresa Blake, who was of Irish parentage, with roots in Armagh and Mayo. Kathleen was the daughter of Irish parents, Denis Kelly and Ellen Phillips.
Madeleine’s maternal grandmother was Margaret Anne/Ann O’Reilly (the daughter of William Daniel O’Reilly and Frances Caroline Mehlhopt). Margaret was born in Wellington, New Zealand. William was born in Rakaia, Canterbury, the son of James O’Reilly, who was from Brosna, County Kerry, Ireland; and of Ellen Lynch, who was born in England, of Irish origin, with roots in Donegal. Madeleine’s great-grandmother Frances was born on Tai Tapu, Selwyn, Canterbury, South Island, the daughter of William Herman Mehlhopt, who was from Middlesex, England, and whose parents were from Prussia and Niedersachsen, respectively, in Germany; and of Sarah Ann Hamilton, whose parents were from County Down, Ireland, and who also had Scottish roots.
