U.S. Embassy in Bern: Press Statement on the Tragic Fire in Crans-Montana

Bern, Switzerland — January 1, 2026

The U.S. Embassy in Bern is deeply saddened by the tragic fire that occurred overnight in Crans-Montana. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who lost their lives, those who were injured, and their loved ones.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the first responders and emergency personnel for their swift and courageous efforts. The Embassy is in close contact with the relevant Swiss authorities, who have established a hotline for victims and their families at +41 848 112 117.

Consular officials stand ready to provide all necessary assistance to U.S. citizens affected by the fire. In case of emergency, the U.S. Embassy may be reached at +41 31 357 7011.

We encourage U.S. citizens in Switzerland to notify family and friends of their safety.
