Referencing

Overview

Library Home

Referencing is an important aspect of academic practice at university. You should always correctly reference sources you have quoted, paraphrased or summarised in your work. You must acknowledge all the sources you use in a process called referencing.

Depending on the referencing style you use, external sources are usually listed twice:

  1. in the body of your work in the form of in-text referencing
  2. at the end of your work in the form of a compiled reference list

While there are many different referencing styles, APA 7 is the preferred style at Adelaide University. However, always check with your School/College/supervisor to find out which referencing style they prefer as it may be different.

Library Search citation generator

BERJAYA You can create a citation in Library Search for any search result that you find. Select the resource you wish to cite, click on citation and choose your preferred referencing style.

IMPORTANT: Automatically generated references often contain inaccuracies, especially of punctuation. Always check the auto-generated reference against the relevant style guide and edit it if necessary.
