From early 2025, Nectar members will be able to earn Nectar points on bookings with participating hotels across more than 30 brands and 10,000 global destinations. They will also be able to convert Marriott Bonvoy points into Nectar points, and Nectar points into Marriott Bonvoy points. Our plan is to grow our digital screen network to over 800 screens in collaboration with Clear Channel. Take-home grocery sales reached a record £13.8 billion in the four weeks to 28 December 2025, up 3.8% year on year, according to our new data. Grocery inflation eased slightly to 4.3%, offering modest relief over the festive period, with households spending an average of £476 - £15 more than last Christmas🎄 Spending on promotions and deals reached 33.3% of sales, up from 32% last year, and the highest proportion since before the pandemic, as households capitalised on widespread retailer offers. Supermarkets’ premium own label lines exceeded £1 billion in sales for the first time in December, appearing in 92% of shoppers’ baskets, with the highest spend seen in fresh meat and chilled snacks such as finger food, dips and antipasti. Alcoholic drinks for December’s festive moments were purchased by three quarters of British shoppers, while the low and no-alcohol category, saw a 14% rise in spend. Kantar Worldpanel’s GB Grocery Market Share Take-home grocery sales grew 4.4% in the four weeks to 18 May, but inflation hit 4.1%, the highest level since February 2024. Typically we see shoppers change behaviour once inflation tips beyond the 3% to 4% point as they notice the impact on their wallets. 🔻 80% of all promotional spend this period went on straight-up price cuts. Retailers are keeping it simple, and shoppers are responding. 📈 Promotions are up 5.1% year-on-year. 🏷️ Premium own label continues to lead market growth. 💪 Sports nutrition products surged 45% as health goals stay front of mind. 🔥 And yes, the early heatwave sent us running for BBQs, with burger sales up 27%, potato salad up 32%. Shoppers are still chasing value, but they’re not compromising on lifestyle, or quality. A brilliant day at the POPAI UK & Ireland Retail Marketing Conference in London - packed with honest conversations about what it really takes to win at shelf. 👀 From show-stopping displays to data-led execution, two themes came through loud and clear: the shopper is at the heart of everything we do - and even the best ideas only work when they’re executed brilliantly in store. 💄 Turning Investment to Impact: A fantastic on-stage collaboration between Suzanne Hammond from L'Oréal and Rosie MacPhail from Shepper, exploring the real challenges brands face. 💎 The ambition: create a show-stopping moment in an incredibly busy aisle. 👉 The reality: tight space restrictions, display specifications, and units that need constant replenishment. Shepper support L’Oreal in understanding the reality of what customers are actually seeing, in real-time, allowing them to take action promptly. Sheppers data demonstrated that when educational messaging from a trusted brand is clearly visible, customer confidence and conversion increase significantly. 🛍️ The Future of Shopper Visibility In-Store Paul Phillips from SharkNinja and the team at The Valley Group highlighted the importance of designing interactive displays that encourage customers to touch, feel and understand products. Their message was simple: 👉 Give customers a reason to go shopping 👉 Increase product interaction 👉 Ensure stock availability 👉 Act on facts, not assumptions Through a test-and-learn approach, brands can identify what truly works and build consistent storytelling across every retail channel. 📈 Understanding the full customer journey Felice Pucino from Nectar360 shared how combining data, algorithms and customer insight helps retailers better understand behaviour across the journey. The challenge? - Finding the right balance between digital activation and traditional POS, while ensuring flawless in-store execution. Because even the smartest targeting only works if the experience in store delivers. 👩💻 Rethinking permanent displays for Amazon devices Stephen Humphrey from Amazon and Ben Duffy from OUTFORM explored how retail fixtures are evolving to support “touch, feel and try before you buy” experiences. With new product launches every four weeks, scalability is critical. Key innovations include: 👉 Sustainable engineering to simplify maintenance 👉 Flexible fixture design to support future updates 👉 Demo devices that don’t require technical expertise to maintain All designed to ensure great experiences can be delivered consistently across large store networks. Latest British Grocery Market Share data is out...and inflation is back, now running at more than 5%. Nearly two thirds of households are very concerned about the price of groceries.
