Shoptalk's Elevate Programme launched at Shoptalk Luxe this year with a clear purpose: to create a practical, closed-door forum for women leaders in retail. Across three sessions, the programme focused on the conversations leaders are actually having inside their businesses: how to lead through transformation, build influence, manage complexity, develop resilient teams and turn strategy into measurable commercial impact. AI wasn’t the most interesting part of these conversations. In prep for a panel I’m moderating at Shoptalk Europe on European retail tech investment, I spoke to investors and market experts about what they’re actually watching right now, and the split is getting clearer. Not “who has AI in the deck”, but who is using it to level-up the fundamentals: operations, supply chains, CX. We also talked about why Europe’s adoption curve looks different from the US, where wellness and physical AI fit into the investment story, and why real-world experiences may become more valuable as digital gets cheaper and more personalised. The bit I’m most looking forward to unpacking: the gap between categories getting attention and categories getting capital. I’ll be moderating this conversation on 9 June.
