Why we rebranded our project name from the dudes NFT to int art?

We started our project with one experimental collection the dudes, with the creative coding vision of our sole developer the dude himself. What started as a small project, received so much love from the community in a short period of time that it gave us the motivation to push the boundaries of web3 space.

We kept on building and launched more collections, always keeping the interactivity at our core.

We had great learnings and gained invaluable experience, that we wanted to grow stronger and become a platform for interactive arts and design.

Our vision is to be the go-to platform for creating interactive art & design by working with many artists and project owners, including thedude himself to build interactivity in blockchain, while growing our collections.

We focused our rebranding around this vision.

Our first collection thedudes and is first-of-its-kind ecosystem of interactive social portraits that were randomly generated on the Ethereum blockchain and originally minted in July of 2021, since then there have been multiple collections, these include The Duds and Abstract Dudes which were proof of concepts to showcase what could be done with the original Dudes contract, and airdropped to the dude owners. These collections are generated on-chain entirely by code with no artist creating any of the visuals.

In November we launched the pixels inc, an entirely new collection interactive pixel PFPs.

Creator

thedudes was founded and developed entirely by “thedude” — a programmer artist who began coding interactive web applications at 15, he currently works as a Senior Engineer for a major European financial application.

His crypto journey was kick-started as an early Bitcoin and DeFi scalper where he coded his own bots to automate the process. Being in the space at a time when the NFT market was just finding it’s footing prompted thedude to put his past interactive coding experience to use and create something truly unique to the space that had not been done before.

Collections

• The Dudes

The Dudes is the genesis collection of 512 interactive portraits, this was the first interactive NFT project to be randomly generated on-chain entirely by code alone.

The Dudes can be staked to earn the ecosystems $INT token.

• The Pixels Inc

The Pixels Inc is the 2nd main collection of thedudes and features 5062 dudes in pixel form, upon interacting, the pixels that make up the character disperse and orbit around the point of contact, there are also additional features that become visible using key binds such as being able to display GM or GN, showing special effects for aliens/zombies and also enabling/disabling different extension

The Pixel contract is unique because it was built to enable the addition of extensions, these extensions change the visual appearance of the NFT and come with a wide range of possibilities, this includes but is not limited to backgrounds, colors, sounds, clothing items and other traits, the possibilities are truly endless.

Just like The Dudes, Pixels can also be staked to earn the $INT token.

• int.art Factory

int.art Factory is the playground of thedude for experimental pieces and collaborations with other projects, communities and artists such as, Clon from Cool Cats, Letters by Vinnie Hager and Sepid to name a few.

• The Duds

The Duds are a derivative of The Dudes with a supply of 293, The Duds, whilst still interactive, are automatically distorted and have a timer that counts down in seconds which runs out on August 7th 2022, as the timer gets closer to it’s end The Duds slowly get less distorted, and upon it’s expiration a secret will finally be revealed.

• The Abstract Dudes

The Abstract Dudes were created as a proof of concept to show what could be done using the DNA of the original Dudes, they are the second derivative of The Dudes and have a total supply of 460 pieces.

Minted through the original Dudes contract by Dude holders, they share the same DNA as the dudes that the minter held in their wallet at the time, making them similar in appearance but in abstract and Loot inspired form.

INT Token

The currency of the whole ecosystem is $INT (short for interactive), this can be earned either by passively holding The Dudes or Pixels, or by actively staking them through int.art, active staking multiplies the daily $INT yield by a factor of 2.

Every new feature, drop or extension will require the spending of $INT in order to be obtained.

The Pixels Inc Extensions

Extensions are one of the main features of The Pixels Inc collection and enable holders to change the appearance of their Pixel through the addition of backgrounds, colors, traits such as clothing items, sound effects and probably much more in the future, extensions can be purchased through the website using the $INT token and are immediately applied to the selected Pixel.

• Christmas

Extensions were first added in December 2021 with a limited edition Christmas extension, this had 3 different variants that were randomly applied to the Pixel upon being purchased.

• Backgrounds

Background extensions were kick started with a Community Art Contest which saw 81 community created backgrounds submitted and added to the extensions system, the creators of the top 5 backgrounds voted for by the community received a prize of 1 ETH each for their efforts, in addition to this, all creators receive a percentage of the INT used to purchase their backgrounds as commission.

There were also a total of 11 collab backgrounds created by friends and partners of thedudes community, these include submissions by uwucrew, Sappy Seals, Chain Runners, Toy Boogers, Little Lemons, Kohi Kitsugi, Eepmon, Fluffy Polar Bears, Nobody, Cool Cats and Cool Pets.

• Summer

The Summer extension is the second seasonal extension of The Pixels Inc, it launched on 27th July 2022 and consists of 6 different types, with common, rare and super rare variations, this includes animated backgrounds and unique clothing items such as sunglasses with an animated shine effect.

Claiming of this extension is only possible for a limited time and will cease at the end of the summer period, claiming costs 100 $INT token.

Making friends while working on an NFT project is one of the best experiences you can get. In the past 8 months, we had the opportunity to meet very talented founders and we had amazing discussions on almost everything including some fruitful collaborations.

We recently organised a community art contest for our upcoming background extension. 81 backgrounds were submitted by the community and soon pixel owners will vote for the winners. 5 winners will be picked and rewarded from our DAO fund.

All 81 community backgrounds will be claimable by “the pixels inc” owners after the winners are announced. With the community backgrounds, 12 official collab backgrounds representing some of the friends we have made along the way, will be released.

What is “Background Extension”

“the pixels inc” supports adding new traits/accessories/backgrounds/effects to existing pixel NFTs without introducing a new collection or a new token. We wanted our community to build these new experiences on existing “the pixels inc” NFTs. This will not dilute the collection!

“the pixels inc” owners will be able to claim these backgrounds by burning their $INT. If you have one of the collab projects and “the pixels inc”, you can claim the project background for free!

Here are our collab projects

uwucrew

Since the beginning uwucrew is an inspiration for us. We used their minting contract to support a gas efficient FCFS(first come first serve) minting process. Thanks to their innovative waved ticket system, “the pixels inc” was sold out under 20 seconds organically and gas didn’t even spike!

Cool Cats

Cool Cats was the project that kept me going on with this journey, even at the hardest times. We recently partnered with them for their Cool Pets drop and we gifted “the little dude” to Clon. We have two backgrounds one for Cool Cats and one for Cool Pets.

Nobody

Nobody is the first derivative of the dudes. It’s not a simple copy paste derivative though. They built their own amazing interactive art on top of the dudes. Since then, they are killing it!

Chain Runners

Chain Runners is one of our favourite projects. Art is on-chain, and contracts are very similar to “the pixels inc”. They support upgradable metadata and technically can support extensions without dilution like pixels. We feel like they are one of those rare projects that are ready to innovate further!

Little Lemon Friends

They are cute af! We recently partnered with them and helped them to upgrade their NFTs to interactive NFTs. They support both HD and pixelated lemons on the same NFT and they became ready for the pixelated metaverse!

Toy Boogers

What’s better than great art coming together with a dedicated community? It’s Toy Boogers! We find their art truly inspiring and we love their community!

Fluffy Polar Bears

It’s a hard-working collection from a great artist Selcuk Erdem. He is my favourite cartoonist and I literally spent my whole childhood with his amazing cartoons.

Kohi

Kohi is a platform that works with artists to take their artwork and permanently preserve it on the Ethereum blockchain (“on-chain”). They are truly innovating the space and we simply love them! We have two backgrounds, one for Kintsgu and one for City Lights.

Sappy Seals

Sappy Seals is one of those projects that always pushing the boundries. They’ve taken on the task of building a collaborative metaverse with other projects and they are nailing it!

How to claim backgrounds

Claiming will happen on int.art. Release date will be announced on Twitter and Discord. In order to claim you will need to hold “the pixels inc” and have $INT token.

What is $INT and how to claim it?

$INT is the currency of the whole ‘the pixels inc’ and ‘the dudes’ universe. By holding ‘the pixels inc’ or ‘the dudes’ you earn $INT daily. You can also stake your “the pixels inc” and “the dudes” to multiply your daily rewards by 2! You can claim your $INT on int.art

Rules

• You can submit any number of backgrounds.
• To join you don’t need to own “the dudes” or “the pixels inc”. The contest is open to everyone!
• Background images should be in PNG format and pixel size should be 65x65. There is no colour limit.
• When you submit your background image you should also share a screen recording of it or screenshots of the process. This is for us to verify that you are the actual creator.
• You should submit your creations in the #submissions channel in our discord!
• Voting will happen in a multi-choice fashion on snapshot.org/#/thedudesdao.eth. Only “the pixels inc” owners will be able to vote!
• You can use online art editors such as https://www.pixilart.com/draw. But you can also pick any other editor you are comfortable with.
• The contest will start on March 3rd and end on March 24th.

“the duds”

the duds are using the colors that were dropped, while I was working on “the dudes”. When I shared those colors in our community discord, people loved them. So I decided to make another collection that was given to “the dudes” owners for free.

They have a catch tho. Their whole reveal takes a year, 365 days, 31536000 seconds.

“the abstract dudes”

the abstract dudes is a proof of concept to show “the dudes” had already done what Loot project did. Your dudes are reusable.

They were given to “the dudes” owners for free. Owners gave “the dudes” and got their “abstract dudes”. They show the details of each “the dudes” in a unique way:

the dudes are the first ever code generated interactive avatar NFT launched by int.art. There only 512 the dudes out there and they are fully on-chain.

How it all started?

I wanted to reflect how regular crypto people started to appreciate art and creative work through NFTs. That was the whole point.

As the sole developer and creator of the project, I wanted to write this article to tell you the story of how it all started from my perspective.

I was inspired by the many big projects including ArtBlocks and Cool Cats. I wanted to bring something new to NFT world. I wanted to show what would happen if you typical PFPs become interactive.

I’m coming from an era where Flash was a hit. Interactive websites were a huge deal years ago. In high school years I was contributing to various 3D Flash engine libraries, working with international digital agencies to build 3D/physics enabled web apps. It’s a lot different than being a static frontend, solidity or backend developer. First of all, you need to know math. You need to know trigonometry.

You are building bunch of interactive mathematical algorithms but you also add your own creativity while visualising them.

Until the end of the university experimenting on algorithms and building visually impressive code was my passion. But then web became more about usability. Flash died. Canvas came. Many new technologies like three.js p5js were born. I decided to be a mobile app developer.

I was still building creative stuff in my free time but never focusing on them fully. Then fast forwarding to years later, I saw how you react to NFTs. I thought, these people are actually appreciating the things I was building silently for years! They are collecting these pieces and even more they love to be associated with these NFTs in public and social media. This is amazing.

So I built “the dudes”. The first interactive PFP NFT. There are only 512 on-chain dudes out there. They are the keys. They are the tickets for everything that comes from “the dudes”.
