Our team - Cathy Young, Jenny Hutchinson, Kathryn Gaw, Laura Stratford and Shanti McAllister - are running the Belfast City Marathon to raise funds for Young Roots. Young Roots is a London-based charity which works with refugees and asylum seekers aged 11-25 seeking safety in the UK, most of whom are alone without their families. This charity is doing incredible work helping vulnerable young people to navigate the complexities of moving to an unfamiliar country, often in extremely challenging circumstances. We are running this marathon as a relay team, to raise awareness of the positive work being done by small charities such as Young Roots, and to send much-needed funds their way so they can continue to provide therapeutic and legal support, language lessons, and safety to these young people as they start their new lives.
