Specialties: Texas' Oldest Since 1883 Our wines include the award-winning Don Luis Tawny Port and many other seasonal wines such as Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Muscat Canelli, and more! Established in 1883. Val Verde Winery was established by Italian immigrant Frank Qualia in 1883. He bagan making wine for the family and friends from the Lenoir grape and eventually made the wines available for purchase. After his death, his son, Louis Qualia took over the vineyards and began expanding production. In 1933 he introduced the French Herbemont grape to Texas. Today, the winery is the full time business of third gereration vintner Thomas Qualia. He respects the efforts and expertise that preceded him and continues the Qualia family legacy of offering various wines of excellent quality. Many of his wines have gained the attention of serious wine connoisseurs; particularly his Don Luis Tawny Port, which has received recognition from California to New York.
