Welcome

Our goal is to showcase digital collections of materials documenting the history of the University of Houston, City of Houston, and State of Texas, as well as other historically and culturally significant materials related to the University’s teaching and research mission.

The digital collections currently available for display are composed of unique images drawn from the collections of the University of Houston Libraries. We’re opening our doors and extending our walls to feature some of our hidden gems. Please enjoy!

Along with the advances in library preservation comes a new way to bring the history of UH to your computer and the world. The University Libraries is currently kicking off a project to digitize and make available online the entire set of UH Houstonian Yearbooks. By sponsoring your graduation year volume, you can preserve the original copy by limiting its usage as well as providing hundreds of pages of history, photographs and memories for years to come. Download the sponsorship form or contact Iska G. Wire. Hurry they are going quickly!

Galveston 1915 Hurricane Photographs

While many people are familiar with the Great Storm that devastated Galveston in 1900, fewer are aware of the hurricane that made landfall on August 17, 1915. While the 1915 storm caused $50 million worth of property damage, it only resulted in 275 deaths because of the protective seawall that had been constructed following the 1900 hurricane. The black and white photographs in this collection were taken by Rex Dunbar Frazier, a representative of Stone & Webster Engineering who went to the region to collect data and document damage.
