Amy Chan

Amy Chan is a Canadian author, relationship coach, and entrepreneur. She founded Renew Breakup Bootcamp, a retreat program focused on recovery following romantic breakup, in 2016. She is the author of Breakup Bootcamp: The Science of Rewiring Your Heart (2020) and Unsingle: How to Date Smarter and Create Love That Lasts (2026).

Career

Chan began her career as a dating columnist in Vancouver, British Columbia. Before founding Renew Breakup Bootcamp, she worked in marketing and served as chief marketing officer of SPiN, a table tennis social-club chain.

Renew Breakup Bootcamp

Chan founded Renew Breakup Bootcamp in 2016. Its first retreat was held in February 2017 in the Hudson Valley, New York. Fortune covered the first retreat and Chan's development of the program.

The program subsequently received coverage in The Guardian, which discussed Renew in a 2017 article about the breakup-coaching industry, and The New York Times, which published a 2018 feature describing a weekend at the retreat.

Chan later expanded her work to include dating-focused workshops. In 2024, The Wall Street Journal reported on a five-day singles workshop she led at the Esalen Institute in California. That year, The New Yorker discussed Renew as part of a broader article about services and businesses aimed at people experiencing breakups.

Chan is listed as a faculty member at the Esalen Institute and has also led relationship workshops at the Omega Institute.

Breakup Bootcamp: The Science of Rewiring Your Heart

Chan's first book, Breakup Bootcamp: The Science of Rewiring Your Heart, was published by Dey Street Books in December 2020.The book discusses relationship loss through topics including attachment theory, neurochemistry, and behavioral psychology.Publishers Weekly reviewed the book in October 2020.

UNSINGLE: How to Date Smarter and Create Love That Lasts

Chan's second book, Unsingle: How to Date Smarter and Create Love That Lasts, was published by Abrams Press on April 28, 2026. The book focuses on dating and long-term relationships and presents a framework Chan calls the "Dating Funnel" to describe stages of the dating process.

Chatelaine published an excerpt from the book in February 2026 in which Chan discussed limerence. She also discussed dating and the book on CBC's BC Today.

Media appearances and commentary

Chan has appeared on The Tamron Hall Show on multiple occasions. In January 2023, the program featured her in a segment about Renew Breakup Bootcamp and relationship recovery. She returned in May 2026 for the show's "Summer Dating Scene" episode, where she participated in a discussion about micro-cheating.

In July 2025, FOX 32 Chicago aired a ChicagoNOW segment focused on Renew Breakup Bootcamp in which Chan discussed navigating breakups.[16] She has also appeared on CTV's Your Morning to discuss the retreat.

Chan has also been interviewed or quoted as a relationship commentator in reporting by CNBC and USA Today on dating and relationship topics.
