For decades, allies worldwide rested in the comfort of the U.S. nuclear umbrella, confident they didn't need their own weapons of mass destruction. OpenAI on Tuesday announced ChatGPT for Teens, a dedicated chatbot experience for users under 18 that the company said is designed to include "stronger built-in safety protections." ChatGPT for Teens builds on several features that OpenAI has launched over the last year, including Study Mode, which aims to help students work through problems step-by-step, as well as age prediction and a number of parental controls. The new teen experience includes a range of educational features, including homework reminders, quizzes and learning visualizations and Study Hours, where parents or teens can determine when Study Mode is on by default. OpenAI said ChatGPT for Teens also adds age-appropriate safeguards that are intended to reduce exposure to developmentally inappropriate or harmful content.

With a growing number of colleges and universities costing more than $100,000 a year, higher education is slipping out of reach for many students, several reports now show. Just 12% of surveyed Americans say four-year colleges are affordable, according to a recent Lumina Foundation and Gallup poll, which surveyed 14,000 adults without a degree or who are working toward one, nearly 6,000 college graduates, and 2,000 employers June 1-15. Cost is the single biggest barrier to entry for prospective students, an earlier Lumina Foundation and Gallup release from the same study said. Learn how families are covering the tab: cnb.cx/4gkzQo0
