Recognized as an authoritative interpreter of 20th-century vocal
music, Phyllis Bryn-Julson has appeared with major Symphony
Orchestras under many of the leading conductors, including
Esa-Pekka Salonen, Simon Rattle, Seiji Ozawa, and Pierre Boulez.
She has made over 100 recordings, including two well-received
recordings of Pierrot lunaire, and has been nominated for two
Grammy awards. Her recording of Schoenberg's Erwartung with Simon
Rattle won the 1995 best opera Grammaphone Award.
Paul Mathews teaches on the Music Theory Faculty of The
Peabody Conservatory and is the Director of the Peabody Institute
at Homewood on the main campus of the Johns Hopkins University. He
is the editor of Orchestration: An Anthology of Writings
(2006).
