Dropout is causing me to have a mini-crisis

I was always the friendgroup defender of SNL. I have a handful of massive youtube playlists of the best snl skits for all kinds of categories: 2000s, christmas, cut for time, etc. it’s always been a bucket list item to go see it live. I believed it was some kind of pinnacle of comedy.

Then I subscribe to dropout. my whole perception of and confidence in… talent? celebrity? media? is now shattered. it’s not even just about SNL but I look at one of the current SNL stars instagram and they have a post cross promoting their brand marketing agent, meanwhile the last episode of game changer I watched was don’t cry- genuinely meaningful and funny. SNL does so much with music skits/spoof songs or interviews gone crazy… but the musical episode of game changer was better than any snl music skit I’ve seen lately and Very Important People alone is better than anything snl has done that’s comparable in genre.

I know those aren’t really equivalent things but there’s a contrast there to me that matters so much. I don’t know how to verbalize it well, so maybe more eloquent fans of dropout went through a similar paradigm shift as I am could lay their thoughts out better?

Game Changer is great life advice

I was talking to my wife this morning about how our baby (4 months) is learning so many new things and wants to practice them all, she said it's like she's constantly in an episode of Game Changer. (It's probably on our minds because of the new season coming up in a couple weeks.) Then I said to the baby, "the only way to learn is by playing, the only way to win is by learning, and the only way to begin is by beginning."

My wife pointed out that this is pretty good advice for life in general, and I agree. We may all feel tortured like Brennan or Katie, but life is so much more interesting when we think that the challenges thrown our way are actually just turning our lives into a giant episode of Game Changer.

Sorry if this sort of content isn't allowed here, please delete if so. ❤️

I upgraded my yearly pass and got ~$35 off the lifetime pass.

I'm not sure it works with monthly subscriptions though.

Why I went with Tidal. The end of a journey.

I’ve been back and forth on lossless audio for over a year now. Whether I can actually hear the difference or not. Have been told…. No way just go with AirPlay you can’t tell the difference. Told….yes it’s absolutely worth it. I’m 54 now. No spring chicken. Have average hearing I’m sure. We have an Apple Music sub which we will be keeping because have wife and daughters are on it. Did trials with Qobuz and Tidal. Always went back to air playing Apple Music. I have a fairly decent stereo system. Willsenton r8 integrated tube amp with upgraded tubes. WiiM ultra. Fiio k11r2r external dac. Wharfdale Denton 85th anniversary speakers and an RSL 10smkii sub. In the high end audio world it’s a very basic stereo. But sounds great to me. My wife has always supported my audio hobby. Yesterday I asked her what she thought. She said…. How much would you guess you have invested in your stereo. I said maybe like 4000.00-4500.00 maybe. She said why spend so that and not feed your system the best signal it can get. Made sense to me. Installed Tidal yesterday. Love their classical and jazz selections. Finally happy lol. Can breathe not stress and enjoy music. Thanks for reading.

If you want to find amazing new music, here is how I do that on Spotify everyday.

I want to contribute something to all of you and the community.

I have been having the most AMAZING experience on Spotify for over a year, where it constantly recommends me mind-blowingly good new music! BUT it sounds like many of you are not having the same experience. So I want to explain what I am doing, and maybe you can try it and see if you get the same awesome result I do.

I DO THIS:
Make a playlist with 3 songs you like, ideally 3 different songs (different decades/genres). For example I just put in:

  • "Nightcall" by Kavinsky,

  • "Addicted to Love" by Robert Palmer

  • "Encome Part II" by Daft Punk.

Then I let it play past the last song. Then Spotify always gives me AMAZING recommendations. I just did this and got

  • "Hot Blooded" by New Constellations

  • "Gameofluck" by Parcels.

  • "The Trip" by Still Corners

Each of these songs just blew my mind. Wowoww "The Trip" is good! The heck? how do I not know that song already? They are exactly the kind of songs I love, have never heard, and want to hear again. EDIT: I am 6 songs deep now, and every song has been incredible. I will probably let this play on for hours.

I ALSO DO THIS:
I added all 3 of these new songs I discovered to a different playlist named "2025.03_March" for repeat listening later. I make a different playlist like this every month. I keep all the 2025 Playlists in a folder name 2025. I can always go back to the old months or years and hear what I liked then, or copy songs into the next month. In any given season I usually put my fav favorites in a special playlist maybe called "favorite songs of the year" and those are the true gems that I still love years later.

DON'T DOs:
(1) I never look at the stupid "Recommendations" section in my playlists underneath the songs I like. That suggests the stupidest things (GAH it is so dumb) basic stuff like "Shout" by Tears for Fears or "Tainted Love". Getouttahere with that malarkey. Useless beyond belief.
(2) I never <3 Like songs, nor listen to my Liked songs. That path leads to burnout. It only plays songs you already know until you never want to hear them again, and there is no discovery at all. Booooooo.

If this helps any of you, then Huzzah!
There is SO MUCH AMAZING MUSIC
to discover every day!
I feel like I am in Heaven.
I hope you get to feel it too.

Lost It All

Lost my entire Plex Library.

DAS with two HDDs fell off the shelf maybe 2ft to impact. Neither of them show in File Explorer, Disk Management or CrystalDisk. Pretty sure they are both dead.

Trying to recover the data professionally is not really feasible given the cost and reliability even if it were to be recovered. I'm thinking I can gather about 75% of the media over a couple months.

Has anyone else had this happen to you? How did you recover, just feeling pretty bummed out. The time and effort that goes into this over the years makes you think if it was really worth it or if you should even rebuild.

I only had a handful of friends and family using it and they have no understanding of what goes into gathering the actual media and effort into the custom artwork and title cards along with the time to organize and streamline the process.

Very upsetting to say the least. Luckily MiniPC is still okay and PMS is intact just the library was affected, but not sure with the current HDD pricing if I can continue.

True crime docuseries that left you speechless

Just finished The Body in the Snow about the Karen Read trial and… WOW. It’s been a long time since a true crime docuseries had me this hooked — constant twists and turns, and I couldn’t stop watching.

I’ve seen most of the big-name ones, but if you have any recs that totally blew your mind or left you speechless, drop them below. I need something that’ll keep me on the edge of my seat like this one did - any network / streaming service!

I made a petition for tv anywhere who is with me?

https://www.change.org/p/lobby-for-moviesanywhere-to-establish-a-new-branch-for-tv-series

So I am starting a petition for movies anywhere to create another platform for tv series so people can have all there tv shows on their favorite apps. I have heard multiple times people who have felt the same way so I thought maybe if we start a petition it could maybe help even just a little.

What would you do if you were given a one hour window on Twitch's homepage?

You are now the featured streamer for everybody in the world to see.

In what way would this effect you as a streamer? Would you act any differently? Would you change what you were doing to cater to the masses? Would you crumble under the pressure?

I know I would be nervous.
