How Citicorp's Amy Elliott Served Mexico's Raul Salinas

NEW YORK -- For three years, Citibank private banker Amy Elliott strove to accommodate Raul Salinas de Gortari, brother of Carlos Salinas de Gortari, Mexico's president from 1988 to 1994.

She helped Raul Salinas get theater tickets. She got involved in his real-estate plans, recommending him to a New York City co-op board and inspecting a California home he was thinking of buying. And, aware of his penchant for secrecy, Ms. Elliott set up an unorthodox system to help Mr. Salinas move millions of dollars out of Mexico in strictest confidence.
