brooklynmuseum:

One of the oldest objects in Brooklyn’s new Arts of Korea gallery is this string of beads. The blue beads are glass and the faceted, clear beads are rock crystal. The Korean peninsula developed glass technology around the 2nd century C.E. Today, everybody thinks of glass as clear and shiny, but the earliest glass was completely foggy and was usually beautified with the addition of colorants like blue cobalt. If you wanted a really transparent, colorless material you had to use naturally-occurring minerals like rock crystal.

Sometimes I wonder if the makers of Finding Nemo were gleefully waiting for kids to grow up, take an interest in marine biology, and learn about clownfish, only to be retroactively scandalized.

Clownfish are protandrous hermaphrodites. Only the largest and most dominant clownfish in a group will develop into a female. Her breeding mate is the largest male, while the other fish in the group stay in an undifferentiated, sexually immature pre-male state.

If the dominant female is killed, her mate will take her place and become female. The next-largest clownfish will grow rapidly to become a sexually mature male and become the new female’s mate.

I mean I’m not cis either and I’m an amateur naturalist but I don’t really see what that has to do with thinking that a zoologically accurate version of Finding Nemo would be weird. Like, I think “Marlin takes his wife’s place and then mates with Nemo” would not make a very good kid’s movie. Just my two cents.

Shiro and Pidge never sleeping.

Shiro and Pidge doing work in the same room in the middle of the night.

Shiro and Pidge being massive hypocrites about their bullshit sleep schedules.

Pidge periodically telling him it’s past his bedtime and Shiro giving her The World’s Flattest Look™ every time.

“I mean, technically, you’re only si-” “Do we really have to do this again.”

Shiro projecting his own exhaustion onto Pidge so once his eyes start to burn, it’s time for her to go to bed.

“You’ll be exhausted tomorrow if you don’t.” “I’ll sleep when I’m dead. You, on the other hand, are a growing boy who needs his rest. After all, you’re only six years-” “Pidge, I swear to god.”

Shiro finally getting fed up and throwing Pidge over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

Pidge passive-aggressively continuing to work on her datapad as Shiro bodily carries her to bed.

Shiro dropping her as gracelessly as possible and then flopping on top of her so she can’t get up.

“You do realize that you’re not going to get any work done like this either, right?” “… Fuck.”

Shiro and Pidge finally falling asleep, all snuggled together.

forget wanderlust, sonder, all those words for vague dreamy feelings… what I’m asking for is a concise word for the feeling you get when someone makes an assumption about you that’s 100% correct but you really don’t like that anyone was able to make that assumption. for now I’m calling it a fuckor

“he asked me ‘you main junkrat right’ and a wave of fuckor wracked my feeble body”

BERJAYA

send me asks. make me tremble with fuckor

Someone walked up to me in Barnes and Noble like 4 years ago and asked me where the Manga section was. I told them where, but I also let them know that i didn’t work there. They kind of shrugged then looked me dead in the eyes and said.

“Idk, you just looked like you might know.”

I changed my complete aesthetic after hearing that come to jesus, god fearing, exposé of a line.

your employer doesn’t care about what you actually did as much as they care about how you contributed to the workplace / “their bottom line” - saying you answered phone calls doesn’t tell them what you actually did to help their bottom line, but explaining “how” you did your job (in layman’s terms, in this case, “I helped customers fix their problems and learn more about the things we sell”) helps them figure out how they can use you

best of luck on your jobbing!
