Welcome to the official web site of Friends of the Governor’s Mansion. This non-profit corporation was founded in 1979 to support and enhance the Texas Governor’s Mansion. The Greek Revival style house was completed in 1856 and has been the home of every governor since then. FGM manages the Mansion Collection of 19th century fine and decorative arts in the public rooms of the home. The organization works with the First Family, State Preservation Board, and Texas Historical Commission to preserve the interiors of this landmark building. Our mission includes educating the public about the home and its history, and beautifying the gardens.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott was elected in November 2014, and took office on January 20, 2015. When the Abbott family, including First Lady Cecilia Abbott and daughter Audrey, moved into the Governor’s Mansion soon after the inauguration, they became the 40th family to live in the home.
These objects, which are displayed in the Governor’s Mansion, were given by the former governors or their families and represent every administration since the house was built in 1856.
