The only reason I use that as a description is because it appeared once in his publicity for a show he did.
In Australia we dont respect our eccentrics enough but I for one never forgot Frank Thring.
A gentle sweet kind man..hardly. Indeed thats not a description he would like at all.
Mr Thring was apart from being a great eccentric was often a stunning actor.
I loved him The Man who came to Dinner. Every bit as good as <Monty Wooley. Loved him in Brechts Caucasian Chalk Circle and he was wonderful in Robert and Elizabeth.
Ok we might have our THring stories.
I will show you mine if you show me yours.

    lol
He was very quick witted and funny.
He was a good cook too!
I did not know him at all well but ended up at a dinner party.
I was very young and thinner (cuter) I asked What is your favorite dish Mr Thring”.
He replied “Possibly you my boy if you play your cards right”.

This one has been told to me. My parents were having a party. Frank Thring was appearing in a play for the MTC or Union Rep as it might have been at the time. He appeared in Act One and Act Three, so he decided to go to the party in between. He turned up arriving by cab, in full make up and costumed (robes)stayed for an hour got back into the cab and traveled back to the theatre and performed the third act.

Didn’t Frank Thring run a theatre in Middle Park in the 1950/60’s?
