iPad Air's opening sales could top last year's 3M record

iPad Air's opening sales could top last year's 3M record

The iPad Air is now on sale in just about all its launch locations, short of Hawaii where local stores have yet to open.

The consensus is that lines for the device are shorter in most places where more shoppers queued up for Apple's latest tablet a year ago.

That doesn't mean Apple won't surprise with higher sales numbers, says Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster, who on Friday told investors he thinks Apple will sell between 2.5 million and 3.5 million of the tablets over the weekend.

Samsung vs. Apple: The J.D. Power satisfaction shakeup

Did J.D. Power overreach in giving its top customer satisfaction nod to Samsung instead of Apple?

The company on Thursday announced that Apple had come in second behind Samsung overall in its consumer study on tablet satisfaction. Apple's iPad scored 833 points out of 1,000 in tablet satisfaction, while Samsung topped that by a small margin at 835.

Not surprisingly, much has been made about Samsung's getting one up on Apple. But as Fortune pointed out Friday, Samsung's win doesn't necessarily add up.

iPad Air launch greeted with low repairability score

Apple's iPad Air, which launches on Friday, won't be easy for DIYers to take apart.

The company, which tears down a wide array of technology products, gave the iPad Air a repairability score of just 2 out of 10, saying that if the tablet is taken apart, there's a chance the device's glass could be damaged.
