iPad Air's opening sales could top last year's 3M record

The iPad Air is now on sale in just about all its launch locations, short of Hawaii where local stores have yet to open.

The consensus is that lines for the device are shorter in most places where more shoppers queued up for Apple's latest tablet a year ago.

That doesn't mean Apple won't surprise with higher sales numbers, says Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster, who on Friday told investors he thinks Apple will sell between 2.5 million and 3.5 million of the tablets over the weekend.

Radio Shack offers iPad trade-in deal

Consumers who want to get rid of their old iPad can score a few dollars through Radio Shack's trade-in program.

With the debut of the new iPad Air on Friday, Radio Shack will offer owners of previous editions a trade-in price as high as $225 depending on the model. Trading in the iPad 2 guarantees you $125 back, the iPad 3 $175, the iPad Retina (fourth-generation) $225, and the original iPad Mini $150.

iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C head to Boost Mobile on Nov. 8

Apple is bringing its iPhone lineup to contract-free provider Boost Mobile.

The carrier announced the news Friday, saying that it will offer the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, and iPhone 4S. The iPhone 5S will start at $549.99 for the 16GB model contract-free. The iPhone 5C will start at $449.99, while the iPhone 4S will set customers back $299.99 at the carrier's stores.

Boost Mobile is by no means the first prepaid carrier to offer the iPhone 5S. Virgin Mobile, for example, started selling a contract-free iPhone 5S last month.

Samsung vs. Apple: The J.D. Power satisfaction shakeup

Did J.D. Power overreach in giving its top customer satisfaction nod to Samsung instead of Apple?

The company on Thursday announced that Apple had come in second behind Samsung overall in its consumer study on tablet satisfaction. Apple's iPad scored 833 points out of 1,000 in tablet satisfaction, while Samsung topped that by a small margin at 835.

Apple's iPad Air, which launches on Friday, won't be easy for DIYers to take apart.

iFixit on Thursday published its official iPad Air teardown, examining the device's internal components and determining how easy it is to take apart and fix. iPad Mini supply issues: Even worse than Apple expected?

A report out of Japan is painting a bleak supply picture for the iPad Mini with Retina Display, which is causing consternation at one Japanese carrier.

Currently, LG Display and Sharp are both stipulated as display suppliers for the new iPad Mini. Problem is, LGD is the only one having any success at achieving production, according to a DisplaySearch Japan analyst cited in a Nikkei report. But even LGD is not faring that well at the moment.
