Quality work

Like other universities, Aalto University is developing a quality work system in order to support its strategic management and to be able to continuously improve its activities on all levels.

The quality of the activities of the whole university is a key guiding principle in decision-making. At Aalto University, quality comprises the quality of the outcomes the university produces and the quality of the university’s processes, activities, and organisation. To assess and improve its quality, the university participates in various evaluations, audits, and accreditations.

Aalto University’s quality work is an entity that consists of the organisation and its division of responsibilities, management, procedures, processes, and resources. In other words, the quality management system is an entity made up of procedures and processes aimed at safeguarding and improving the quality of the university, its education, research, and other activities it is engaged in.

Performance improvement, or quality management, at Aalto University and its schools is based on the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) principle, a tool for continuous improvement. Aalto University’s activities are planned in accordance with agreed objectives. The activities are also evaluated, measured, and developed based on feedback. At Aalto, the practice of reviewing and revising objectives and developing activities is considered a spiral, a continuous process in which each round of development takes us closer to the objectives we have set.
