Not only will we get improved graphics and better crashes, but the game will even take the "revenge" angle onto Xbox Live where you can track opponents that you need to get revenge on so you can go find them and punch them into a wall. Sounds great!

Gotta love this stuff - Nintendo has announced its full unveiling of their Revolution console will happen next May before E3. Many publishers and console companies have been moving their announcements back to shortly before E3, presumably to try and get the big press drop on the competition.

On the Quake 4 Demo    [posted by Finger]
You might have tried the recently released Quake 4 demo with some broken multiplayer code - this was all a pretty big mistake, according to the id Software web site:
On behalf of id Software, I would like to express our regret over the snafu with the Quake 4 demo last Wednesday. We wanted to get the demo out before the Holiday weekend here in the U.S. and were working hard with Raven and Activision to make that happen. A bug in the multiplayer was caught at the last minute and we decided to hold off on the release. Single player was unaffected by this bug. Unfortunately, in our preparation for the planned release the bad build was mistakenly put on our public FTP instead of a staging site, and was apparently seen and downloaded by a website or two, and propagated from there. We tried to get the word out to mirrors and websites that multiplayer was broken in the build and not to mirror the file, but due to the late hour and the impending holiday, the request to pull it back was too little, too late.

We are working on finalizing the demo for release as soon as possible, but we want to be as certain as we can to avoid making the same mistake twice. I'm sorry for everyone who spent time downloading the demo and found the multiplayer was broken. Hopefully a properly functioning Quake 4 Demo can make amends.

A New Diamond Sound Card!    [posted by Finger]
Oh man, I remember Diamond's MX300 sound card that had the excellent Aureal A3D chip on it. Well, after several years, apparently a new Diamond sound card is on the way. The few specs listed don't seem like anything special, but all some people want is a clean sound, little CPU usage when gaming, and a nice set of analog and/or digital outputs. This is something that the sound card industry has a hard time delivering to some people's standards, so let's see if Diamond can step up.
360: Impossible to Mod?    [posted by Finger]
From what this summary on Engadget has to say, there may never be any working modchips for the Xbox 360. The system's got some serious security going on here, with several layers of checks that are all inside the main CPU making sure that there is no tampering with the base system. All of this doesn't mean anything to the average gamer, so Microsoft has done a great job making sure that their security features don't hinder usability in any way.
