Defendant

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A defendant is the person or group of people being taken to court because of a lawsuit.[1] Lawsuits are filed by a plaintiff or a claimant. A defendant might also be called a respondent, if a petition is used against them to make them come to court, or if the lawsuit is filed against them in Scotland.[2]
