Meteor 3.5 is officially here ☄️ This release is heavily focused on MongoDB Change Streams and a new pluggable DDP transport architecture, plus a long list of performance and quality-of-life improvements. Highlights: • Change Streams — now the default reactivity mechanism. In our benchmarks that's ~40% more connection capacity and no more OOM crashes under high load. They also unlock real-time reactivity on managed/serverless MongoDB tiers (like Atlas Shared) where oplog isn't available. • Pluggable DDP transport + uWebSockets (uws) — pick the right trade-off for your app: maximum compatibility with sockjs, or lower latency and higher throughput with uws. A single flag, no code changes. • DDP session resumption — reconnect within the grace period and Meteor resumes the existing session instead of rebuilding it, cutting CPU spikes on reconnect. • Authenticated REST with the new accounts-express package — protected routes read Meteor.userId() and Meteor.user() just like methods and publications. Plus: async matchers in DDPRateLimiter, MongoDB collation support, async-first client Accounts, and Node.js 24 LTS. Change Streams are on by default, so most apps benefit immediately with no code changes. The best time to upgrade is today.
