Everything is checking out so far. It is one of the most up to date React books on Amazon and it is shaping up to be a great introduction on the subject. Would buy again.

First i'll say what i like. The book touches on a lot of details that are helpful to know and i dont see in other documentation, like the history showing how things used to be done and then why and how its now done in react. The author also seems to know his stuff.

A few things i really dislike though.

1. The book layout feels disorganized. It jumps around from topic to topic in a somewhat random way (class vs function to events to lifecycle methods, all just kind of blending together). It kind of feels like the author was just writing things as they came to mind and never changed the structure after that.

2. Even small parts are disorganized. Like on page 47 (kindle), theres a bulleted list of lifecycle methods. But they have no headings (just blobs of text), theyre seemingly in no particular order (componentDidMount, componentWillUnmount, getSnapshotBeforeUpdate, componentDidUpdate, shouldComponentUpdate - its like ordered 1-5-3-4-2 ???), they dont follow a common structure (they all describe even their individual points in a different order)... it's all good info but its so unordered and unorganized. I'm constantly re-reading big sections to try to understand how everything relates.

3. The author makes an argument for why the book covers both class and functional components. I think this was a major mistake. The constant jumping between class vs function syntax is confusing. I think the book shouldve just used functional components and then if really wanted there could be one chapter dedicated to showing side-by-side comparisons.

Overall... i feel like the book had a lot of potential, but im finding it easier to just read the docs and stackoverflow posts. And im pretty sure im exactly the target audience for this book.

No issues with my order

I'm pleasantly surprised how good this book is. I mainly got the book as a refresher but not only is the book detailed enough with an extremely useful example app but also it tried to implement a UI library and routing from scratch. So you not only learn the key concepts of React but you also learn how those front-end frameworks that are based on React actually work under the hood.

It's amazing the author is able to distill all the information in about 200 pages. If I have to nitpick, then the book can be somewhat difficult for people who are completely new to React or front-end development. This is a great book for people who have some background but would like to learn/refresh React in earnest.

This book introduces the key concepts but is careful to explain what is happening under the hood. Reading this book will take away the mystery of React, not only will you be able to build react apps, you will understand what is actually happening. If you've used other frameworks (or no framework) this is fantastic. Highly recommend this book

The first example does not work. It does not execute the React.render. There is no work around.

Get a book that has working examples. This is not that book.

Le doy cuatro estrellas porque no es un libro para alguien que nunca haya usado React. Lo mejor es tener un poco de conocimientos de por lo menos cómo crear un proyecto y las partes de éste. En los primeros capítulos no hay explicación de los componentes que se deben crear para poder seguir el libro. Alguien que sea su primer aproximación en React tendrá problemas con esto. Algo más es que solo se ponen a escribir código y no hay mucha explicación del por qué se hace de esa manera, lo cual creo debería corregirse en próximas ediciones. Lo bueno es que el código lo puedes encontrar en github por si te pierdes.

Honestly not a great book to learn React. The author gets caught up in making a "cool app" and focuses more on that than teaching the basics. Seems like the author just wants to show how much they know rather than teaching the reader. I did learn a bit about react class lifecycles, but that info is outdated as classes are being strongly discouraged in favor of functions.

The book is great for learning React the ‘good’ way, taking the reader from a complete beginner to an advanced level.

Keep in mind that you have to know JS pretty well though!
