Finland’s 2025 OSCE Chairpersonship

The Finnish Chairpersonship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe will host the OSCE Chairpersonship Youth Forum in Helsinki on 29–30 July 2025. The event will bring together youth from around 50 OSCE participating States to discuss the security situation in the region.

Finland will start as co-chair of the Media Freedom Coalition (MFC), which advocates for media freedom and the safety of journalists. Finland will hold the two-year co-chairmanship together with Germany and succeed Estonia when it concludes its term as co-chair on 30 June.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is inviting interested candidates to apply for the position of a conciliator and an arbitrator at the Court of Conciliation and Arbitration within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) by 30 April 2025.

Finland is emphasising climate security and the importance of sustainable development in international diplomacy during its Chairpersonship of the OSCE.

Finland holds the Chairpersonship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2025. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen has appointed Prof. Dr Wolfgang Palaver as Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office on Combating Discrimination.

Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina from 17 to 18 March. This is her first visit to South-Eastern Europe as the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The aim of the visit is to strengthen the OSCE’s partnership in the region.

Helsinki, 14 March – Finland, in its role as Chair of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), extends its congratulations to the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the successful conclusion of negotiations for the draft text of a peace settlement. This significant milestone reflects a shared commitment to pursue a future of peace, stability, and co-operation in the South Caucasus.
